Hui Jing's life reads like a TVB drama.Her mum was forced to be the sole provider for the family after her dad landed them in bad debt. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hui Jing understood the importance of money & joined the work force young - at the below-legal age of 15 - for a mediocre RM4/hour.It wasn't easy.But it kickstarted a series of jobs that saw her go from working as at McDonald's to The Body Shop to becoming a finalist for the Red Bull Female Driver Search in 2009 (they were offering a cash prize) to becoming an insurance agent (where she learned the joys of passive income) to joining a radio station as a road runner and finally…Co-founding one of Malaysia's fastest growing local convenience store chains, Bila-Bila Mart.Which is on track to hit a whooping RM150+ million in revenue & 100 stores by the end of 2025, with an IPO on the horizon!Not bad for a Brickfields girl who was once kidnapped & held ransom due to bad family debts. If there's one thing that clearly stands out about Hui Jing's story, it's this: Taking riskDuring the interview, she spoke of how:“Throwing everything outta the window (i.e. leaving corporate) sounded like an adventure. I wanted that adventure. Because I was just thinking, okay, now I have no commitments. I don't have a family… If I don't do it, if I don't risk it, I don't really see how is the world outside, when am I gonna do it?”That said, life hasn't been without its challenges.Once at a bar, she was told, “Jing, you talk too much as a female. This is the second in a short mini-series focusing on vehicle-borne attacks having transitioned from a relatively rare method used by Terrorist Vehicle-Borne (TVB) attacks to becoming one of the most lethal forms of terrorism.In Western countries, by 2016, TVB has resulted in just over half of all terrorism-related deaths. Their effectiveness and simplicity make vehicle ramming attacks an increasingly popular option for lone individuals who are three times more likely to stage a successful attack by groups of two or more. According to the global terrorism index, 2024 saw an overall 63% increase in terrorist attacks in the West, with terrorism conducted by lone individuals sharply on the rise. So, how much have we learned from the past the public report published in the United Kingdom in 2013? A 2022 systematic review focusing on lessons learned from terror attacks from 2001 to 2018 found that despite the differences in methods countries social and political systems and casualties involved many of the lessons an issues identified with similar however these lessons continue to repeat themselves time again it concluded that the lessons identified did not appear to be sufficiently acted upon the failure to learn was further highlighted in volume 2 of the Manchester Arena public inquiry which focused on the response by the emergency services it identified the organisations involved in the response to the incident had failed to capture or learn lessons from previous multi-agency exercises it reported that there had been a failure to learn embedded key lessons from exercises. This was most relevant in the areas of shared situational awareness and joint understanding of risk and co-location identified key lessons, that subsequently reoccurred during the multi-agency response on the night of the attack.On the afternoon of August 17, 2017, Barcelona was subjected to a vehicle terrorist attack, the 22-year-old assailant drove his van some 550 metres along the famous La Rambla, killing 14 people and injuring 125. We are 8 years on now from the attack. However, the lessons identified and reflections taken from the emergency service response are still as relevant today as they were at the time. Television soon became a training ground for talent in the film industry: successful televisions were often adapted into movies, and it was common for successful television personnel to be introduced into the film industry. Television dramas and news programs also established a distinctive identity for the people of Hong Kong. Cantonese Television even helped shift Hong Kong Cinema's market from being a Mandarin-dominated market to being Cantonese-dominated. In the 1970s, Hong Kong cinema completed a generational transition, with the previous generation of directors and writers retiring from the scene and a new generation of filmmakers from Hong Kong taking over. Notable directors who emerged from this period include John Woo, Sammo Hung, and Tsui Hark, who all established themselves as leading figures in the industry. Journey to Love features a return to historical dramas for Liu Shi Shi whose last historical costume drama was 6 years ago. Bai Lu and Zhang Ling He's The Story of Kunning Palace finally aired. Charmaine Sheh and Kenneth Ma return with a well received TVB drama The Queen of News. Tan Jian Ci, Zhou Ye lead a modern romance, Gu Li Na Zha and Xu Wei Zhoul starred in a sequel to Weaving a Tale of Love.
