This week on the debut episode of Buzzin' with Baker, Edmonton Stingers Head Coach and General Manager Jordan Baker takes stock of the season as the club reaches the one-third mark of its schedule. Sitting at 3-5 through eight games, Baker shares his assessment of the team's start, the progress he's seen since training camp and whether the current record truly reflects the group's performance and potential. The conversation also examines a recent setback against the league-leading Scarborough Shooting Stars, with Baker discussing the lessons learned from facing one of the CEBL's top teams and the message he delivered to his players afterward. He also provides insight into one of the unique challenges of coaching in the CEBL: managing constant roster turnover. With Dain Dainja departing to pursue NBA opportunities and captain Nick Hornsby returning to the lineup, Baker explains how teams maintain continuity amid a revolving roster and why Hornsby's leadership remains so valuable to the organization. Plus, Baker breaks down the balanced offensive approach that has become a hallmark of the Stingers, previews a rematch against Montreal at The Hive, and reveals what fans may not see behind the scenes that gives him confidence this team is capable of producing better results as the season moves forward. We discuss the early positives, the impact of new addition Dain Dainja after a dominant start to the year, and how the coaching staff approaches an immediate rematch with Vancouver Bandits in a back-to-back set. We also talk about the growing atmosphere at the Expo Centre—“The Hive”—and why it's quickly becoming one of the most entertaining environments in the city. From there, we shift to the NBA Conference Finals. Out West, it's San Antonio Spurs versus Oklahoma City Thunder, and we dive into the incredible rise of Victor Wembanyama after his jaw-dropping 40-point, 20-rebound performance. In the East, we look at whether the New York Knicks have what it takes to upset the Cleveland Cavaliers and punch their ticket to the NBA Finals, including what their stunning Game 1 comeback revealed about the resilience and belief inside that locker room. Chris Wiggins welcomes new co-host Andrew Savory, Bandits play-by-play voice on Episode 2, as the veteran CEBL broadcasters break down Jalen House's explosive debut with the Vancouver Bandits, a disappointing outing in Edmonton, and a chance at redemption this weekend against the Edmonton Stingers and Calgary Surge. We also dive into the challenge of managing an incomplete roster early in the year as captain Nick Hornsby finishes his season overseas, the development of some new faces already stepping into larger roles and what identity Baker wants this year's Edmonton Stingers to establish as the season unfolds. Plus, a look ahead at expectations for the rest of the year and how competitive the league is shaping up to be in 2026. Host Brenden Escott dives into the upcoming CEBL season with a wide-ranging conversation with CEBL reporter Joey Slattery, covering the growth of basketball in Canada and what lies ahead for the Edmonton Stingers. The discussion begins with recognition for a major accomplishment, as this year's Fred “Gus” Collins Award winner reflects on what the honour means and the passion that continues to drive his involvement in the game. The conversation also explores the CEBL's growing national profile following the league's new broadcast partnership with CBC, what makes the league such an exciting brand of basketball and why its connection to Canadian communities continues to resonate. From there, the focus shifts to the Edmonton Stingers — evaluating Jordan Baker's offseason moves, how the team plans to replace the offensive production of Sean East II and whether Edmonton has done enough to build on last year's strong regular season after a disappointing play-in exit against Calgary. The episode also touches on the return of the Stingers' neutral-site game in Red Deer after last year's successful event, the significance of Mark Cuban joining the ownership group of the Brampton Honey Badgers and an early look around the league at the teams and storylines to watch entering the new CEBL campaign. It's a Thursday in Edmonton, and while the sun is out, the clouds are still lingering over Rogers Place. The Edmonton Oilers' offseason is in full swing, but the "patient" approach from the front office has the fans—and the fellas—feeling anything but calm. We're diving back into the wreckage of the 2025-26 season to ask the hard questions that management hasn't answered yet. We quickly got into Morning Announcements to recap all the action from last night in the NHL and NBA. After the break, we continued the Oilers discussion. Dusty asked the boys and the nasties what's the best reason to keep Bowman as GM? It was tough to find the answer. To cap off hour one, it's day two of YouTube Trev's trade of the day. And we got Fired Up for Gemco Fireplaces. Today, we gave away some Stingers tickets.
Season four of Target Score Winnipeg kicks off with a deep dive into the new look Sea Bears, a new era for the CEBL, and a look ahead of the season opening matchup against the Stingers in Edmonton. And a tease of what's coming down the pipe for added Target Score coverage.
Summer “Stingers” in the North Georgia Mountains: What's Buzzing Around Your Eaves? By Fred Talley, Faith Pest Control Well, neighbors, summer has officially arrived in Jasper. The sun is out, the lake is calling, and if you're like me, you're spending as much time as possible on the back deck or out in the yard. But there's a downside to this beautiful North Georgia weather: The stingers are out in force. Up here in the mountains—from Talking Rock to Big Canoe—summer is the peak season for things that fly, buzz, and pack a punch. At Faith Pest Control, we're getting the calls every day from folks who walked into a yellow jacket nest or found a “paper lantern” hanging over their front door. Here's the breakdown of who's who in the world of North Georgia stinging insects this summer: The “Ground Troublemakers”: Yellow Jackets If there's one bug that can ruin a backyard BBQ faster than a summer thunderstorm, it's the Yellow Jacket. The Hiding Spot: Unlike honeybees, these guys love to build nests in the ground—often in old rodent burrows or under railroad ties. The Danger: They are notoriously cranky. If you run a lawnmower over their “front door,” they'll come out swinging. And unlike a honeybee, a yellow jacket can sting you multiple times without losing its stinger. The “Eavesdroppers”: Paper Wasps You've seen these nests—they look like an upside-down umbrella with open honeycombs. The Hiding Spot: They love our North Georgia architecture! You'll find them under the eaves of your house, behind shutters, or tucked into the corners of your porch. The Behavior: They aren’t quite as aggressive as yellow jackets, but if you get too close while painting or cleaning your windows, they'll defend their home with a painful sting. The “Gentle Giants”: European Hornets These guys are big—sometimes over an inch long—and they can look pretty scary when they're bumping against your porch light at night. The Hiding Spot: They usually nest in hollow trees, but they aren’t above moving into an attic or a wall void if they find a gap in your siding. The “Attraction”: They are the only wasps in our area that are active at night. If you leave your porch lights on, don’t be surprised to see these big fellas circling the glow. The “Drill Bits”: Carpenter Bees While the males don’t have stingers (they're just “all bark and no bite” hovering in your face), the females do. The Damage: Their real “sting” is to your wallet. They bore perfectly round holes into your cedar siding, decks, and fascia boards. If left alone, they'll turn your beautiful mountain home into a piece of Swiss cheese. Fred's “Stay Safe” Summer Tips Before you grab a can of spray and head out there, keep these things in mind: Watch the Flight Path: Before you start weeding or mowing, stand back and watch your yard for a minute. If you see bugs consistently flying in and out of a hole in the ground or a crack in your siding, you've found a nest. Avoid “The Swat”: If a wasp flies near you, try to stay calm. Swatting at them is interpreted as an attack, and that's when they call for backup. Check the Kids’ Playsets: Check under the slides and inside the “fort” area of backyard playsets once a week. These are favorite hiding spots for wasps. Don’t Block the Exit: If you find wasps entering a hole in your house siding, do not caulk that hole shut while they are inside. They will find a way out—and “out” might mean chewing through your drywall into your living room! We've Got the Gear to Handle It Look, I know a lot of folks like to “DIY” their pest control, but when it comes to stinging insects, it can get dangerous fast—especially if you have an undiscovered allergy. At Faith Pest Control, we have the protective gear and the specialized treatments to knock out these nests safely. We live and work right here in Jasper, and we want to make sure your summer stays fun and sting-free. Give us a shout at Faith Pest Control, and let's keep those “mountain stingers” in the woods where they belong! The post Summer “Stingers” in the North Georgia Mountains: What's Buzzing Around Your Eaves? first appeared on Faith Pest Control.

In 2006, a regional favorite Blues band was formed. Founded by Mark “King Bee” Menefee, King Bee and the Stingers built a solid following, which now includes his daughter, Sarah Menefee as lead vocalist. She and bassist, Jeff Shew dropped by recently for a chat with host, Jim Ervin about their early years in music, and how their paths led to their current place with KBTS. Jeff also shared his memories of the legendary PineTop Perkins, whom he met at 13 years of age and stories of jamming with PineTop later in life. Today, King Bee and the Stingers is as solid as they ever have been, garnering several nominations at the 2025 Josie awards, including best blues group, best blues album, blues vocalist of the year and several more! They also were top five finalists for the Blues Foundation's BMA for best self-produced CD in 2025 for their album, “Live At the Slippery Noodle”.Website: https://www.kingbeestingers.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kingbeethestingersSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0FO4xVOO2k3pdYDjpxFNnU?si=KJ-QCTS6TRqMLTtvjYA2tgYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@kingbeethestingers8160_________________________Facebook: Time SignaturesYouTube: Time SignaturesFacebook: Capital Area Blues SocietyWebsite: Capital Area Blues SocietyFriends of Time Signatures _______Website: University of Mississippi Libraries Blues ArchiveWebsite: Killer Blues Headstone ProjectWebsite: Blues Society Radio NetworkWebsite: Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation

To paraphrase Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour's Opening Drive is *finally* just about underway! Andy and Brendan are beyond happy to have actual golf back on the Schedule for the Week, even if this is still a Victory Wednesday episode for the Bears. It could also be a Victory Wednesday episode for the PGA Tour, as Brian Rolapp's new Returning Member Program has enabled Brooks Koepka's return at the Farmers Open in just two weeks. Andy and Brendan discuss all the details of the new pathway, open to just four LIV golfers for the next three weeks before LIV's season begins in Riyadh. The two wonder if the financial penalty of "equity coupons" and a donation to charity was enough of a punishment for Brooks, but see this move as an overwhelmingly positive for the Tour and Brian Rolapp's tenure. Things seemingly moved quickly over the weekend and Rolapp gets props from Andy and Brendan for decisively striking while the iron is hot. PJ makes a change to his major picks, awarding Brooks with a fourth PGA Championship, but Brendan is skeptical that Koepka will find himself in major shape in 2026. Brooks will not be at the Sony Open this week, but many PGA Tour stars will be to start the season. This gambling pod makes some picks for the first event of the year, riding with two big names and a podcast favorite. Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy and other European Ryder Cup heroes are in Dubai this week for a DP World Tour event as a tune-up before coming back to the states. Brendan comes in with a real winner for the Event of the Week, Tiger's 50th birthday at the Breakers in Palm Beach. Andy and Brendan toss out some musical acts that would fit the vibe before realizing that Jon Bon Jovi is already enlisted to perform. Lastly, some major LIV news came across the desk on Tuesday morning as the Ironheads and Stingers GC have re-branded! This podcast will continue using the Stingers name, but some potentially-AI press releases reveal the new country-based names of these teams. There's also some LIV hot stove news with a former U.S. Amateur winner seemingly making the jump from the PGA Tour.

There's no way your Thursday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up your week, would it? Of course not. Thankfully, the gang was back with a fresh episode of Real Life. The guys kicked off the podcast with a random collection of sports, including the recent passing of Jellybean Bryant and Wanye's question about why he was unaware that Jellybean played in the NBA. After a quick Googling on the topic, it turns out that the answer is a lot sadder than anyone expected. Sticking with sports, Tyler wanted to know what events are missing from the summer Olympics and whether the boys could improve the games with some new events. As expected, every potential event the fellas recommended was completely ridiculous and 1000% not likely to happen. Changing gears, Tyler read a bunch of Gen-Z words that were added to the dictionary, and the boys had to guess what all of these words meant. As expected, fellas in their late 30s and early 40s were completely lost on basically everything, making everyone in the studio feel incredibly old once again. Looking around the local sports scene, the discussion turned to how the Riverhawks and Stingers have found a way to inspire Edmontonians while the Elks still struggle to get people through the door. Outside of the team obviously being awful, there has to be a way to get the city more engaged with a team that used to be hugely popular for decades.
Welcome to episode 190 of the Campus Comics Cast . If you hear a long pause during the recording, it is probably because one of us is busy watching the Olympics instead of focusing in on the pre-orders for items generally shipping in Ocotber. Your Monday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not. This week, the fellas covered summer activities in Edmonton, expanding the Savannah Bananas, and whatever other random topics popped into mind as the recording wore on.The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a discussion about summer living in Edmonton and how it's time to get into other activities now that the Oilers are done. Talking about summer activities led Baggedmilk to talk about his love for the Edmonton Stingers after attending his first game of the season last night. Talking about the Stingers' success had the guys wondering if other leagues would benefit from adding zany activations as part of their game day festivities. From there, the boys had a tough time keeping the podcast on the rails. As much as they tried to talk about single topics, they couldn't stick to any one thing for more than a few seconds. Tyler started talking about going to a movie with his niece, which somehow kicked off a conversation about the boys buying ice cream machines and trying military rations. Would it make sense to eat MREs for some Real-Life summer content? Yes.Finally, steering the podcast back to the Oilers, the fellas talked about the team's Stanley Cup odds and how it's wild to see them so heavily favoured at this point. If you're into betting, would you put your money down on the Oilers as favourites or should you wait a little bit for the excitement to die down? The guys also talked how the Oilers can get cap compliant given that they're currently $354K over the salary cap with Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway left to sign. Hosted on Acast.
