It is also made possible by Ginger and Baker — our favorite restaurant(s) in all of Fort Collins, and Ram Zone (powered by the CSU Bookstore) — the best place to get all your Ram gear. Joel Cantalamessa flies solo on this week's episode as CSU men's hoops continues its frustrating slide — highlighted by a flat, rivalry loss at Wyoming where the Rams never led. The centerpiece of the episode is an extended interview with new pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Matt Mitchell — the BYU-developed “QB whisperer” — covering his move to Fort Collins, first impressions of CSU and Mora, his approach to developing quarterbacks, what to watch from a revamped dual-threat QB room, and how CSU can build a winning identity in the Pac-12 era. Cosplay vs. Competition: 7U Signing Day InsanityIn this episode of "the world's most dangerous youth baseball podcast," host Deven Morgan returns for another Youth Baseball Bummer Power Hour to tackle the growing trend of "cosplay" in youth sports. Deven offers a scathing critique of signing days for 6 and 7-year-olds, utilizing the developmental theories of Jean Piaget to explain why professionalizing the experience for single-digit ages is a psychological "ticking time bomb." The conversation pivots to a proposed systemic solution for the youth coaching crisis, arguing that the current "pulse-only" requirement for coaches must be replaced by a teacher-like certification and a centralized repository for safety and compliance. Deven also celebrates the "disruption" of Jesse Cole and the Savannah Bananas as they expand into youth tournaments, challenging the traditional 90-foot game to either prioritize fun or lose its market share to "Banana Ball." Finally, the show concludes with a deep dive into five months of HitTrax data, proving through "Player 1's" 3,000 tracked swings that development is not a "wishing contest" but a result of consistent stimulus and falling in love with the work.Timestamps:00:00 Intro & Housekeeping01:20 Discounts: AxeBat code & Youth Assessments code03:00 6U & 7U Signing Day "Insanity"10:40 Professionalization as "Cosplay"15:30 Piaget & developmental psychology in youth sports21:30 The Coaching Solution: Certification vs. the "Pulse"27:00 Systemic fixes: Centralized reporting & pitch counts36:15 Savannah Bananas & the disruption of youth baseball40:24 Banana Ball vs. tradition48:00 The only two goals: Fun/Engagement and Skill Building50:40 Hitting Deep Dive: 5 months of HitTrax data53:00 Tracking 3,000 swings: The ROI of showing up57:45 Why development is not a "Wishing Contest"01:10:00 Closing: Deeds, Not Words

College football doesn't really end anymore. The clock hits :00. The trophy gets handed out. And almost immediately, the sport gets loud again. Portal moves, litigation, coaching changes, CFP debates and more. Oh, and by the way, we've also got a Super Bowl coming up with Seattle vs. New England. (Hello Elite 11 finalists Sam Darnold and Drake Maye)With everything seemingly happening all at once in football, there's a race to be first instead of thoughtful. It's the same in the content world. Instant reaction shows. Social posts fired off before the dust settles. Takes delivered as fast as possible. That's not how we do it at Y-Option.Y-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. After the Hoosiers hoisted their hardware, we took a pause. And today, we took a detailed look back at the season that was in 2025.Today's episode of Y-Option, fueled by our founding sponsor 76® — keeping you on the GO GO GO so you never miss a beat, is with Jim Thornby. For nearly two hours, we just talked. No timer. No rush. Multiple cups of coffee. Dozens of teams. Real perspective. One hundred and five minutes later, the result was less of a “podcast” and more of a conversation. And as we talked, one thing became clear:* The biggest change in college football isn't happening at the top. It's happening in the middle. The 12-team Playoff didn't just give more teams access, it changed the psychology of the sport. Suddenly, programs sitting fourth, fifth or sixth in their conference are making million-dollar decisions with almost no margin for error.Quarterbacks cost more. Mistakes cost more. One Saturday can swing an entire donor base's belief. We talk about why that reality is both exciting and dangerous and why the sport still hasn't figured out how to handle what comes after the final whistle. We went league by league—not to rank them, but to understand them. The Big Ten's rise isn't accidental, it's legit and not going anywhere but up. The SEC isn't broken, but it's no longer bulletproof. The ACC looked chaotic… until Miami made a run that forced everyone to re-think the narrative. And the Big 12? Still searching for the moment that changes how the country sees it.Context matters. And it's usually the first thing lost online. We also spent time on the Pac-12, a place that impacted both of us deeply, as it steps into a new reality.Looking back was a reminder that Oregon State and Washington State found ways to survive, even when the odds were stacked against them. And now, under the leadership of Commissioner Teresa Gould, they're building something with substance: proven head coaches, programs with real momentum, and a league that still has a path to the CFP.That's why we made this episode. To celebrate the game and coach the viewer. We know it's “too long” according to the experts and the algorithms. But Y-Option wasn't created to win an algorithm. It was built to serve the thoughtful college football fan, coach, and player. So before we sprint forward into the Super Bowl, Signing Day, and Spring Ball, let's take one last look back at where we've been as a sport. As always, thank you for being here. This doesn't happen without your support.Much love, and stay steady,YogiY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. Clemson leans into the transfer portal, the NIL era exposes its cracks, and the sport wrestles with accountability, contracts, and control.
Michigan fired head coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday. He was fired with cause for having an "inappropriate relationship with a staff member." The story broke with this news, but continued to evolve and a few hours later it was reported that Moore had been detained by police. Details will continue to come out as more is learned about this situation. Until then, Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey will just look at the football impact of Moore's firing with the big question: Who will be Michigan's next head coach? Signing Day has passed, so Michigan does not need to rush the process of finding their guy. The Transfer Portal opens January 2nd, and it would make sense to want to have a coach in place by that date. Kalen DeBoer is a name that is being rumored, but it is not known if he has any interest. Kenny Dillingham is another name the crew suggests as a good fit. Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss who may be a good fit for the Wolverines going forward. Then, we get some more news from Ross in Vegas. It appears there is momentum to move the playoff to a 16-team model. Most of the conferences are on board, but the Big Ten is still not fully sold. The guys talk about the potential of moving to a 16-team playoff and what that format would look like. The other big piece of news is there seems to be a groundswell of support to get rid of the weekly College Football Playoff Rankings Show. How would ESPN handle the elimination of this show? Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss how realistic this idea is.Later, it is a big weekend in college football. The biggest individual award in the sport will be given out on Saturday. Indiana's quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, is the betting favorite to win the Heisman, but the guys think that Vanderbilt's quarterback, Diego Pavia, might make a push to win the award. Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love are the other two finalists for the prestigious award. Will Indiana or Vanderbilt have its first Heisman trophy winner? Plus, the guys make their I've Got A Feeling picks. They discuss the Army/Navy game, an FCS playoff game, and one of the first bowl games of the season.
