The “Returner” phenomenon is a very real thing: people leave their small towns as young people and come back later when they're ready to settle down, and there is a huge opportunity for both the returners and the small towns they're coming back to–but we're not always open to these boomerangs. This episode is about inviting people back, creating spaces, and growing as communities so they everyone is thriving. We think you'll love it! About Jessica: Originally from Winner, SD (pop. 2,852), Jessica Meyers was raised in Winner and Vermillion, SD, and earned her bachelor's degree at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Jessica and her husband Matt followed the flight pattern of many young adults and left the small towns of SD for bigger cities. After 10 years of living in some of the largest cities in America, she now lives in Sioux Falls with her family. Pairing over 20 years of sales and recruiting experience, Jessica discovered a unique opportunity for the Midwest. She is co-founder and CEO of PorchLight, a talent recruitment firm that partners with rural communities to prepare for the 21st-century workforce and connect rural workers to employment opportunities. Jessica created the first-of-its-kind PorchLight Certification and created the platform where rural development and job opportunities connect. Personally, Jessica has been married for over 20 years to her high school sweetheart Matt, and they have three daughters, Eve, Grace, and Juliet, who live in Sioux Falls, SD. In this episode, we cover: What is a returner? A different approach to thinking about housing (hint: it's not just workforce housing we need to consider) Why “People don't want to work anymore” is a myth Why remote work *works* for small communities What every single one of us can do to support our community's small businesses Links + Resources Mentioned: PorchLight's Website: https://porchlight-services.com/ Small-Town Shout-Out! This shout-out was blatantly stolen from the webinar with Saveyour.town, and in the chat, Jamie Shanks from Glendive shared an idea inspired by a Reimaginig Rural Event: They've recently formed a group focused on action vs meetings, and they call themselves the “VigiPlantes.” Their efforts are centered around planting new ideas, community beautification, planting actual trees and plants, and sometimes doing things in the wee hours so people in their community wake up to a surprise. Can you even?! Snaps to Jamie, Glendive, and the VigiPlanties for this very stealable, very amazing idea. New Segment Alert! We think some of the best parts about radio shows and podcasts are listener call-ins, so we've decided to make those a part of the Growing Small Towns Podcast. We really, really want to hear from you! We're introducing two new parts to the show: “Small town humblebrags”: Call in and tell us about something amazing you did in your small town so we can celebrate with you. No win is too small—we want to hear it all, and we will be excessively enthusiastic about whatever it is! You can call in for your friends, too, because giving shout-outs is one of our favorite things. “Solving Your Small-Town People Challenges”: Have a tough issue in your community? We want to help. Call in and tell us about your problem, and we'll solve it on an episode of the podcast. Want to remain anonymous? Totally cool, we can be all secretive and stuff. We're suave like that. If you've got a humblebrag or a tricky people problem, call 701-203-3337 and leave a message with the deets. We really can't wait to hear from you! Get In Touch Have an idea for a future episode/guest, have feedback or a question, or just want to chat? Stopping by the Paddy Wagon, as our first return guest, Damien brings along his partner in crime, Christian. This duo hosts the Remain, Roam, Return Podcast and are always a joy to sit down and chat with. We try and figure out what s*xual act the "Bearded Christian" entails, discuss the imfamous "Pittsburgh Toilet" as well as Mike's new basement getaway, The Paddy Wagon Pub and all of his OCD that went along with it. Christian tells us about his digestive system, which he purchased off Temu and why it can only handle pasteurized beer, which he handles himself in his own make shift methlab. Mike also shares a heartfelt story about the time he shared a portopotty with a random stranger who decided to blast a few rails of the devils dandruff... Not exactly the "blow" Mike was expecting. Damien and Christian will be hosting a night of comedy at the Dive Oyster Bar, This Saturday March 15th. Comedian Jason Mena will be performing his act and if we're lucky, Triple R's own Christian, may grace the crowd with his stage presence. Working alongside what little remains of the Empire, the Returners seek to broker peace with the Espers whose rage threatens to destroy the entire world.
Terra learns of her origins in the Esper world, and the Returners resolve to recruit the remaining Espers into their war against the Empire.
The Returners are tasked with rescuing Espers from the Imperial Continent, but to get there, they must form an alliance with Setzer Gabbiani, a gambling vagabond who finds freedom from society's narrow views of morality aboard his airship, the Blackjack. The Returners concoct a plan to meet Setzer by tricking him into kidnapping Celes from tonight's Opera House performance.
The Returners send a search party to scour the west for any signs of Terra, who may be the key to turning the tides against the Empire.
The anti-imperial resistance group "The Returners" must regroup in the neutral town of Narshe, but get separated on the way back. Each group has their own adventure, recruiting new allies along the way.

Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball
Arizona State Sun Devils football rolled out a more than-quality defense in 2023. Despite the deceptive points per game, the unit dialed up pressure thanks to a new philosophy under defensive coordinator Bria Ward. Several players emerged as stud players for the Sun Devils including B.J. Green, Dashaun Mallory, and Tre Brown, however, all three of them are no longer with the program for various reasons. Now looking ahead to 2024, the Sun Devils have a need for new veterans, but thankfully they have some key returners who will make the process a bit easier. Price Dorbah and Clayton Smith give ASU potential bookend edge rushers. C.J. Fite and Anthonie Cooper will be tasked with manning the interior of the defensive line. Tate Romney and Caleb McCullough are returning linebackers with significant playing time in 2023. Along with these few are transfers like Jacob Kongaika, Jeff Clark, and Keyshaun Elliott, as well as a slew of others. With all of these guys to watch, plus a potential breakout candidate in Gharin Stansbury, host Richie Bradshaw has faith this front-seven can have repeat success in 2024. Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the Ole Miss Rebels defensive line group for Pete Golding and Lane Kiffin led by Walter Nolen and Princely Umanmielen as elite transfers that will help the Ole Miss defense and the returning Defensive Linemen JJ Pegues and Jared Ivey. Those starters will be among the best in the SEC and maybe the best when you consider what they do. Returners like Akelo Stone and Xxavion Harris fill the interior line while this could be the step year for DeeJay Holmes and Kamarion Franklin for the Rebels. In the second segment of the show we talk about Under Armour Next Combine in Atlanta that was just held that was attended by several Ole Miss targets. We talk about Akylin Dear and his performance earning an invitation to the UA All American Bowl in Orlando as a Running Back. Alvin Henderson a Top 100 Running Back from Alabama that put up stupid numbers. The Auburn Tigers and Florida State Seminoles will be in for this back. We talked about Mario Nash from Kemper County and Deuce Knight and what showing up at this event likely means. In our final segment of the day we talk about Some group therapy for the Ole Miss Baseball fans down in the dumps about this weekend in Hawaii and why I think the season starts now. You've got questions. They've got answers. Nik and Moiz are dipping into the Slack channel again to answer your biggest DTC questions. And they're not holding anything back this go-round. Which SaaS platforms are, *pardon our French*, complete sh@#, and which ones are worth your time? The guys break down exactly what you should be looking for when considering a software service and which red flags should leave you running like the plague. Nik and Moiz aren't afraid to name names, so yeah… Our lawyers are gonna love this one. Return a purchase once, shame on me. Return a purchase twice, ok, we'll let it slide. Return a purchase thrice? You're only getting away with this if you're one of our best customers. The guys pontificate on how best to handle nightmare returns—what should be your limit, how should you be thinking about customer service, and what does any of this have to do with a thwarted terrorist attack on Margaret Thatcher? And stay tuned because later, the guys talk some more crap about SaaS (we're gunning for you, ERPs) before explaining the difficulty of organic growth. How much should you invest in organic before leaping into paid? And why are apparel brands so risky? Can capitalizing on FOMO and image perception help these brands capture more top-of-funnel leads? Today, we consciously close the year together. Deep and real transformations can happen when we take the time to properly end the year that was. Let me be straight up, I'm not a big believer in New Year's resolutions. What I AM passionate about is properly taking the time to really consciously close out a year to allow a fresh, new energy to generate. It's like the end is also the beginning. I encourage you to receive this episode as an invitation to reflect and honor the journey you've been on this year before you start to create a container of dreams for what's to come, guided by the whispers of your soul. If you need some encouragement on why or how to do this - this episode is for you. Plus I have a special offer for my Returners - so be sure to keep listening. “It's so important to consciously and deliberately draw a line in the sand in order for a threshold to emerge and be crossed. Only then we can be clear on the blessing of what was, what is, and what is becoming.” - Rebecca Campbell KEY TIMESTAMPS: 01:57 Opening Sacred Space. 02:26 A soulful approach to ending the year. 04:23 The first step is listening deeply. 05:43 Honoring the ending before beginning again. 07:32 Releasing and letting go like nature does. 08:40 Close, pause and tap into the intelligent pulse of life. 09:53 Journal prompts for honoring your journey this year. 10:50 Giving people a container to share within. 13:01 Finding more support in closing off the year - a special gift. 15:24 Today's Soul Inquiry prompts.
