Welcome to Season 4 of the "Shh, The Movie Is Starting" podcast! Today is the second part of a special series that was recorded at The Music Box of Horror Drive-In Double Feature event in Chicago. Yes, we recorded not one, but two episodes while watching a movie in a car. The second film shown was "Cathy's Curse", a not-so-classic Canadian rip-off of "The Omen" and other possessed children films from 1977. You have been warned... this film might possess you to scream "Your mother's a bitch!" at random intervals.
Daniel is joined again by Carmelita Valdez McKoy to discuss creepy kid movies! First up is the towering classic of Satanic Horror, The Omen (1976), and then the canuxploitation bonkers treat that is Cathy's Curse (1977). A double-feature of adorable and highly possessed little children. Come play with them... if you dare.Email the show at cobwebspodcast@gmail.com to let us know what you think of the movies, give feedback and/or request an episode!Cobwebs on Twitter: @cobwebspodDaniel on Twitter: @eplerdaniel Daniel on Letterboxd: @Dan_EplerCarmelita on Twitter: @CarmelitaSaysCarmelita on Letterboxd: @CarmelitaSaysCobwebs on YoutubeThe Film Feast Podcastwww.cobwebspodcast.comMusic Provided By: Mediacharger: https://www.youtube.com/user/MediaCha...Music Created By : Andrian Von ZieglerSong Title: NecromancyCredit link: https://www.youtube.com/user/Adrianvo...
This week we dip into some movies about Children With MIND POWERS! Some that can make things levitate or explode.. while others just raise the dead to kill. Ya know, regular stuff. First up we talk about the cult classic film Cathy's Curse (1977) that is so bad it's good. About a young girl who gets possessed by her dead aunt who has a foul mouth and telekeneitc powers. Up next, we got The Child (1977) about Rosalie who uses her powers to raise the dead (her friends) to feed on cats and of course the living. It's a 70's showdown of the absurd and fun! Join us! Sean sends us all to the madhouse after watching Cathy's Curse (1977), a Canadian Exorcist-rip off about a little girl who becomes possessed by the spirit of her dead aunt (we think) or her dead great-uncle (could be), which may have taken control of her doll (possibly) and now wants to kill everyone else in the family (definitely). Listen as we try to deal with a series of anti-climaxes, uncomfortable situations, crazy psychics, creepy neighbors and foul mouthed youngsters on this week's exciting show! Cathy's Curse is one of those deep cuts that I only recently heard about thanks to the podcasts, Shock Waves and The Movie Crypt. After seeing it was available on Shudder, I knew I had to review it for the show.
On this week's episode of Shock Waves, hosts Rob Galluzzo, Elric Kane, and Rebekah McKendry are joined by special guests Brian Collins (Birth Movies Death, Horror Movie A Day) and director Mike Mendez (DON'T KILL IT, BIG ASS SPIDER) to talk about the best stuff the genre had to offer this past year. But first, the latest horrors! Both Elric and Rob watched the Netflix original movie 1922. Rob also checked out Blue Underground's DEATHDREAM Blu-Ray. Elric talks about Walter Hill's latest THE ASSIGNMENT and SZAMANKA. Bekah joins us in the love/confusion for Lucio Fulci's THE DEVIL'S HONEY, and also checked out DOWN (aka THE SHAFT), as well as the book ROTTERS. Then we hear from our guests regarding their favorite things in the genre this year. For Mendez, it's everything from events like BEYOND FEST, to movies like KING COHEN and GET OUT, to toy collectibles. For Collins, it's finally getting a proper release of CATHY'S CURSE, books like PAPERBACKS FROM HELL, the FRIDAY THE 13TH video game, puzzles, and more! Kick back, relax, and join the conversation!
We cover a handful of recent releases by Severin Films! Wild Beasts, Drive-In Massacre, The Survivor, Cathy's Curse, Dark Waters, The Other Hell, Dream Stalker and Death By Love.
Join your hosts Rob Galluzzo, Elric Kane, Rebekah McKendry and Ryan Turek as they discuss all the latest horrors! First up, in books, Rob recommends SLASH OF THE TITANS: THE ROAD TO FREDDY VS JASON and Lois Duncan's original I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. Movie wise, Elric revisited THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER and UNCLE JOHN. Bekah rewatched Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO, and checked out the new Hulu series DIMENSION 404. Ryan delved into Vestron's WISHMASTER Bul-Ray set. Him and Rob also bared witness to the craziness that is CATHY'S CURSE. Speaking of crazy, Rob upgraded to Blu with THEY'RE PLAYING WITH FIRE, and teases the upcoming PHANTASM box set. Then we welcome to the show special guests Andre Gower and Ryan Lambert, Sean and Rudy from THE MONSTER SQUAD! We ask them about their experiences making that film as child actors, the ever growing cult following of the flick, and what the convention circuit is like. Then, each of us builds our own "monster squad!" We select 5 monsters we'd love to see team up, and then we pit them against our 5 choices for heroes that would make up our own personalized "Monster Squad!" Kick back, relax and join the conversation!
On this week's show, Elric and Brian are joined by their first guest - Stephen Scarlata (JODOROWSKY'S DUNE, BEYOND THE GATES) - to talk about some of their favorite "Ripoff Movies". The impetus for this episode is the release of CATHY'S CURSE on Blu-ray from Severin Films, which we take some time to discuss at the top of the show before delving into the wild world of cinematic Rip-off's.
On this edition of Shock Waves, Elric Kane is back from his cross country trip and joined by co-hosts Rob Galluzzo and Rebekah McKendry as they catch up on all the latest horrors! Elric got to see THE SHALLOWS, THE NEON DEMON, George A. Romero's SEASON OF THE WITCH and EVELYN CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE. Bekah talks about the documentary 30 YEARS OF GARBAGE about the infamous Garbage Pail Kids trading card series. Rob plays a bit of the single "A New Beginning" by Wolfie's Just Fine, a loving tribute to FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V. Then the gang welcome on very special guests David Gregory and Carl Daft of Severin Films! We celebrate their 10th anniversary by learning about their humble beginnings, the "video nasties," the rise and fall of the DVD market, some of their titles such as DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D., SANTA SANGRE, THE SINFUL DWARF, AXE, FELICITY and much more. They even reveal that CATHY'S CURSE will be one of their upcoming titles! As always, kick back and enjoy a chat about our love of weird and eccentric genre pictures!
