Book Vs. Movie: The FlyThe 1957 Short Story Vs. the 1986 MovieThe Margos feature The Fly this month with special guest Patrick Bromley, who hosts the excellent F This Movie podcast. The 1957 short story and the 1986 film share the core premise of a scientist merging with a fly during a teleportation experiment, but they have different approaches. George Langelaan's story focuses on the emotional and ethical fallout, depicting science as perilous when unchecked. David Cronenberg's adaptation emphasizes the grotesque consequences of scientific overreach, blending body horror with a profound sense of loss.Langelaan's story explores guilt, tragedy, and the limits of science, while Cronenberg's film focuses on the horror of losing one's humanity physically and mentally. Both versions are haunting, but Cronenberg's film expands the original premise into a deeply personal horror, highlighting the darker sides of human ambition. Respect is the ultimate currency. This week on Scene Stealers we welcome our 2nd guest- Patrick Bromley from the F This Movie! Podcast. Patrick has been a great voice in the world of film criticism with his weekly podcast, as the editor for his website FThisMovie, and writing for other sites such as Bloody Disgusting. But for this episode we have brought him in for his expertise on Spike Lee films and specifically- Inside Man. It makes for a lot of fun. We go into the vault to talk about three different movies- Stallone's 90's hit Cliffhanger, the documentary Bama Rush, and the newest from Ted Geoghegan- Brooklyn 45. The big take is with Inside Man a quintessential heist film. It's Denzel Washington working with Spike Lee and it is a good one. It's a movie that Leo, Charles, and Patrick were all excited to revisit. Give it a listen and pay strict attention to what I say because I choose my words carefully and I never repeat myself…

EPISODE 100!!! They started with "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" for their first episode and now, they celebrate their 100th discussing 1986's crazy black comedy horror sequel "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" directed by Tobe Hooper with dream guest Patrick Bromley (critic, host of "F This Movie!" podcast, contributor on Bloody Disgusting, Daily Dead, and Corpse Club). They talk about Hooper's choice to turn the sequel for one of the darkest horror movies in history into a black comedy, what makes this one the more approachable and rewatchable flick, how the overacting (especially from Dennis Hopper) works for the tone of the movie, and what this film means to Hooper superfans Patrick and Aaron. They also get into the neon artificial set design, the descent into madness by the end of the film, how it explores class, capitalism and Americana, and several other topics. Aaron doesn't skimp on the meat. Derek knows the saw is family. Patrick is the Lord of the Harvest! Thank you Patrick and all our previous guests! Most importantly, thank YOU...our listeners!
