She made her debut at the age of 15, posting faceless snippets of her singing on Instagram that garnered hundreds of thousands of views and a dedicated fanbase that has stuck with her for the better part of a decade. Now a seasoned musician with millions of monthly listeners worldwide, Ivri released her debut album, "Tower of Memories," last month, and is embarking on her first headlining tour across the country. Ahead of her Atlanta performance at Masquerade on September 16, she spoke with City Lights Collective member Jacob Smulian and began by explaining what it was like to take a leap of faith and move to New York City, by herself, at only 18 years old. ✦ Starting in the 1880s, each year on September 1, every single lease in the City of Atlanta—yes, the entire city—expired and renters moved out and into new homes…on the exact same day. Wagons jammed the streets. Furniture everywhere. Tempers flaring. Back pain? Guaranteed. Beyond the Gates 2025, held from July 30 to August 2 in Bergen, Norway, was a must-visit for metal fans. This iconic festival, set across historic venues like Grieghallen and USF Verftet, delivered a killer lineup with King Diamond's first Norwegian show in 19 years, Paradise Lost, Misthyrming and more. Featuring 18 bands making their festival debut and epic sets like Gehenna's original lineup and Abbath tearing through Immortal's discography, it was a diverse celebration of black, death, and heavy metal. Note to the listeners: Due to some computer snafus onMike's end, the first five minutes of this episode are lost. We join this one as it is already in progress. This week, Mike and Ariel are on hand to talk Wishmaster 3Beyond the Gates of Hell. While we were warned we might experience something on par with the lows of the worst Wrong Turn franchise, this one is, just sort of there. It's not the worst thing we've ever watched, but it isn't all thatmemorable either. What is memorable is the mid-episode existential crisis Mike has as he ponders whether eternity would ever get boring, or if there is capitalism in the Afterlife, and if so, does Jesus make people toil in factoriesputting little screws into “Footprints” framed posters? We do talk about the movie a bit, and whether this is the same Djinn as the same movie, ponder why the Djinn doesn't act a little nicer when granting wishes in order to get the prophecyto come true, and wonder if Angels would ride public transportation. Good times. Mike also makes the argument again that Wishmaster 2 laid the groundwork for the landmark Supreme Court case of Citizens United. All that, plus a little bit of Buffy talk.

A Chicago woman, Irna Phillips, birthed the daytime serial — and a Chicago woman, Michele Val Jean, is ushering in new interest in the genre. Val Jean has written for several shows, including Generations, Santa Barbara, General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful. Now, she's the creative force driving Beyond the Gates, the newest American soap, which debuted on CBS in February. The drama features a core Black family, the Duprees, who live outside Washington, D.C. It's full of delicious soapy drama, with slaps, villains, cliffhangers and fabulous clothes.
