Growing up, we were fans of The X-Files. Reboots have been a mixed bag, however. That does not stop us from being excited about Ryan Coogler's upcoming take on the series. As we speculated last week, The Last Drive-In aired its final episode. According to those in the know, there will be more to come. The first movie this show throws a lot at the wall. It is a supernatural horror movie with a haunted house, ghosts, and cursed objects. Plus, there are twins, a blind medium, and a monster. Oddity makes it work thanks to patient writing and some of the best placed scares we have ever seen. We have covered lots of found footage on our show. Bodycam is the first one to make one of us feel physically ill. And it had nothing to do with what is in the movie. Its chaotic pacing and extra shaky shaky cam will make this a difficult watch for anyone with a weak stomach. It does try to do something different by having a semblance of a plot. This works until it doesn't. After a great set-up, Bodycam runs out of ideas. The first and biggest issue happens almost immediately. There is no reason for anything in the movie to be happening. As things progress, it becomes more convoluted and less enjoyable. Maybe it is better for found footage movies to have no plot. Does myth and legend have any function in a mature, civilized humanity? The horror community continues to be rocked with sad news. Bruce Campbell's announcement is one of the most painful. The latest installment of the Scream franchise has polarized audiences, but has not stopped it from being a success. Will the Maniac Cop reboot do as well? There is no doubt that Corey Feldman was one of the biggest stars of the 1980s. What has been lost in all the nonsense that has plagued his life since then is what an amazing actor he was. We jumped at the chance to review Corey Feldman vs the World. In a documentary filled with shocking moments, the biggest may be that it has little to do with his acting heyday and is still a riveting watch. It can be described as a cautionary tale, a trashy reality show, and a story about a villain who is also a victim. With unprecedented access and an interesting approach to documentary filmmaking, it is a must-watch. There was a time when exploitation movies did not care about story. It was all about characters and moments and pushing things to the extreme. It did not always work out, but the results were pretty amazing when it did. Still, with the changing times came a decrease in these types of films. Dolly is a throwback to those simpler times. It is a battle for survival that is all about gore and attrition. It will end up being one of the most disgusting things released this year. The protagonist/antagonist dynamic is fantastic and the grainy look adds to the tense atmosphere. We have more Mike Flanagan news this week. With the release date of his Carrie series we discuss what we would like to see from the show. Predator: Badlands recently released on Hulu and did record numbers. We talk about what this means for the franchise. We have been lucky to cover some fantastic true crime documentaries on our humble little podcast. We have also seen some great folk horror. We never thought the two would come together. The Last Sacrifice does just that in a surprising documentary. There have been plenty of movies that have been moving along nicely when they suddenly lose the plot. Things become a mess at that point and it is pretty much impossible to get things back on track. A strong argument can be made that The Last Sacrifice loses its way. But it is one of the most fascinating tangents you will ever see. And it ultimately does tie into the greater mystery. The Dreadful will draw lots of attention for its casting of Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner. But it is a performance from another actor that steals the show. The film covers some deep themes and is bolstered by its fantastic setting. But one missed opportunity prevents it from being something truly special. A character driven psychological horror, The Dreadful does not necessarily need a Big Bad, but when it introduces one, it is hard not to expect more from it. And to be supremely disappointed when nothing comes of it. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. The genesis of our show can be found in the Alamo Drafthouse. We may not go to it as often as we used to, but we did not want to see it close its doors in El Paso. We have not had too many good things to say about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise recently. Maybe the latest update will have us singing a different tune. Plus, a lot of Mike Flannagan news.Unsurprisingly, we love Halloween. The costumes, the movies, the parties, we enjoy it all. Still, a Halloween movie at the beginning of the year is a little weird. But what if that movie dresses up as a Halloween movie but has nothing to do with it?Even putting aside the fact that it is a Halloween movie that has no costumes, no decorations, and no pumpkins, The Haunted Forest is a strange film. The protagonist is surrounded by death, but is more concerned about whether he should go to work. A woman on her way to college grooms a high school kid. Two haunts with similar names become involved in a blood feud. It also includes the hardest cut possible ever seen in movie history.Movies based on video games are nothing new. One of the biggest stories of this young year is how a small indie horror based on a little game has been a box office success. It is hard to believe that within a matter of weeks, two indie horrors based on indie games have dropped, however. The Mortuary Assistant has the expected thrills, chills, and spills. It does a nice job of changing up the formula by having the vessel for possession have much more agency. There are also some spooky visuals in it. If only the damn story did not get in the way. It was an interesting weekend at the box office. The big discourse was all around Melania, but we don't really care about that. What was interesting to us was the battle for the top spot between an old favorite and a YouTuber. We also talk about an exorcism movie in the White House and an upcoming movie we reviewed years ago.Teacher's Pet sounds like it is an erotic thriller. The story centers around a new high school teacher who notices and wants to help a student in his class. Naturally, things are not what they seem. Instead of a sultry suspense, the film is much more frightening.Horror taught us long ago that a great villain can take a movie a long way. Think of all the fan favorite killers that lead very popular franchises. Teacher's Pet has a strong villain that carries its basic plot. (The story may be paint-by-numbers, but it is very well written.) There are some noticeable flaws, but it is worth watching.Whistle has one of the strongest casts seen in an indie horror movie. Dafnee Keen and Nick Frost are the big names, but it also includes stars from Yellowjackets, Rebel Moon, and the upcoming Hunger Games movies. Even better, no one phones in their performances. There may not be much to the characters, but they are fun.The film is a typical high school slasher filled with corny lines, unrequited love, and infighting. The kills are amazing and how the killer commits their acts is a cool idea. But after a very strong first two acts, the story relies on a very familiar crutch and almost ruins everything. Before we get to our first review, what may possibly be the strangest reboot of the year. As cool as that news is to us, the latest from The Conjuring universe has us more confused than excited. Of course, we talk about the Oscars and a new movie that is taking its cues from one of the greatest Frankenstein adaptations ever.A few weeks back we discussed how divisive Jaws is. Specifically, we talked about how some people do not think it is a horror movie. This discussion has been going on since it was first released, and we will not be revisiting that today. But, there is no arguing that it is one of the most influential movies of all time. One look at the poster for Grizzly Night will let you know what movie they had in mind when they made it. The trailer also looks like something from the animal attacks sub-genre. The film surprises by being a more character-focused affair. There are some missteps along the way, leaving us both with different opinions. Our feature presentation is a psychosexual thriller from the Sundance Film Festival. Despite its provocative name, we knew that Night Nurse was not going to be a throwback to the erotic thrillers of the 1990s. We were shocked by what we did get, however. There are some uncomfortable moments and great ideas, but Night Nurse is more confusing than anything else. And not in the way that promotes discussion. It simply does not make sense. There are no clear motivations, scenes begin in the middle, and the ending falls flat. It may all be intentional, but none of it works. It is hard to believe how much happened in 2025. We saw close to one hundred movies, and even the ones we saw in the past couple of months seem like a long time ago. So going back a few twelve months seems like an epic journey. And we do go back to the very beginning of the year. There are some movies that we said at the time that we would be talking about in our year end review. The major releases that caught everyone's attention. The twisted take on Cinderella that is head and shoulders above everything else in the public domain subgenre. The haunted house movie with the four legged star. Then, there were the ones that even surprised us. The killer clown movie that was not a gore fest starring a clown named Art. The tense thriller that had one of the best performances of the year. The remakes that were so good not because they were novel but because they did what they should have done. There are a lot of horror movies out there and with so many viewing options, it can be overwhelming to pick one. This show will help you make those decisions. Every single movie on here is an absolute must see that you should go out of your way to watch. We love horror and genre. It has been the focus of our show for years. And it is because we like these types of films so much that we notice the ones that are really bad. Of course, when you cover close to one hundred movies a year, there are going to be some bad ones. But this year was particularly rough. Was it the worst year ever? Not on our end. We brought the same passion and dedication we do to every show. There were some long ugly stretches of reviews. This is true every year, but 2025 was particularly bad. This includes big budget theatrical releases, small indies, and multiple festival offerings. There are some big names on our least favorite list. We talk about Stephen King, a Chalamet, and AI. We also talk about how one of our favorite genre film festivals disappointed us. Plus, some surprises and a few firsts. All the vitriol is born out of love. We are not hating on anything just to hate. (That's what we have social media accounts for.) We also want to help our audience make decisions. On the fence about a particular movie? Listen to this week's show and you will finally be able to make that decision. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. The last show of the year is upon us. We are doing something we have never done before. We have covered limited series before. To end the year we also have the return of one of our most asked about guest hosts. It is all killer, no filler this episode as we end things on a strong note.A few weeks back we started following Welcome to Derry. The first two episodes were horrible. Thankfully, the third one improved to just merely bad. We figured that was a good time to take a break from the show. We also knew we would come back to close the whole thing out.It seemed like things would be okay for a couple of shows. They had found their stride. Sure, the CGI was still awful. Yes, the opening credits sucked. Yeah, they kept introducing numerous new subplots every episode. But at least Welcome to Derry was remaining at a consistent level of bad. Then we came to the last three episodes.Everything became progressively worse. Seemingly important characters would disappear then just reappear to progress the story. Important plot points were dropped until the finale. The writing felt like things were being done as the show progressed. And nothing made sense.Don't believe us? That's fair. We spent the whole time talking the show down. The show is made for a newer audience than us. But listen to the people who love the show. Not the ones who just heap praise upon the surface level qualities. The ones who are tying themselves in knots trying to explain what happened in the show. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. We have purposely avoided doing anything involving The Last Drive-In. Why would we want to review a movie when Joe Bob has already done it? There is no way we would be able to top what he had already done. We start our latest show with something directly from Shudder's most popular show.We may be a little biased, but we have always though the horror community is one of the strongest. There is little to no gatekeeping, a willingness to talk, and just a lot of good people. We hate to put labels on anyone who says they are a horror fan. But what if you like films? We have ten statements that will make them mad.Our humble little podcast started seven years ago and during that time there have been a lot of surprises. Some movies have amazed us how good they are. Others have shocked us with how bad they ended up being. We figured that this would be he perfect time of year to talk about them. But the surprises are more about good and bad. We talk about the fall of Jordan Peele and the rise of Tubi. We talk about the movie that made us think we had come across something that had too much nudity and the film that everyone seems to love except us. And we look back painfully at the movie that we are most embarrassed about. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Metroid Prime 4 has generated a lot of excitement, with fans eagerly awaiting its release. On Metacritic, early impressions and reviews highlight the game's stunning visuals, immersive gameplay, and faithful continuation of the Metroid Prime series, though some critics note the challenge in living up to its predecessors. Meanwhile, Nintendo's acquisition of Bandai Namco marks a significant move in the gaming industry, potentially expanding Nintendo's portfolio with Bandai Namco's popular franchises and development expertise. Additionally, Steam's announcement of the Steam Machine console aims to bring PC gaming into the living room, blending the flexibility of PC games with console-style convenience, which could shake up the gaming hardware market. These developments together suggest a dynamic period ahead for gamers and the industry alike. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Support the podcast on Cash App: https://cash.app/$2BGPodcast Join our Discord Server! https://discord.gg/GbE3FA9ExC Listen to our episodes live on Kick! https://kick.com/2brothersgaming Listen to our episodes live on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNS1AE-B-hU_Lsx5Lb5UBnA Follow Us On Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567044685707&mibextid=LQQJ4d Watch us play games on Twitch! https://m.twitch.tv/2brothersgamingpodcast Here is Ashton's (armoury987) personal Twitch Channel https://www.twitch.tv/armoury987 Here is Ryland's (Quixs) personal Twitch Channel https://twitch.tv/Quiixxss Here is Ashton's (armoury987) personal Kick Account https://kick.com/armoury987 Here is Ryland's (Quixs) personal Kick Account https://Kick.com/Quixs Here is Ashton's (armoury987) personal YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@armoury987 Here is Ryland's (Quixs) personal YouTube Channel https://youtube.com/@Quixs Here is our merch on RedBubble 2BrothersGaming.redbubble.com Here is our merch on Printify https://2-brothers-gaming-merch.printify.me/ Here is our merch on Tee-public http://tee.pub/lic/2bgpodcast Here is our Flowpage https://www.flowcode.com/page/2brothersgaming Music: Credit to https://www.FesliyanStudios.com for the background music. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sources: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond ReviewsMetacritichttps://www.metacritic.com › game › metroid-prime-4-b... SPOILER ALERT!!! AS WITH ALL SPECIAL EDITIONS WE DISCUSS ANYTHING AND EVERYTHINGOsgood Perkins is one of the best horror directors going today. He has an eye for horror and knows how to deliver scares and an engaging story. Keeper is no different as its character driven plot builds to some of the best jump scares of the year. The mood will draw you in and the setting is perfect for its tale.Which is not to say that the storytelling is not without its problems. The pacing may be an issue for some as it takes a while for the plot to actually develop. It is not a long movie, but the first third of Keeper is a little too methodical. But it is the ending that is a bigger issue. The exposition dumps and vagueness will definitely turn some off.One thing that we had no problem with was the performance of Tatiana Maslany. She has done some amazing work in genre cinema and is the heartbeat of Keeper. So much so that if the same story is told without her, it would be nowhere near as good. The movie does a lot right, but she is the highlight. The end result is a whole lot of good with some very noticeable bad. What does that mean for the entire film? We talk about the direction of Perkins, its patient and frustrating storytelling, the acting of the small cast, the over the top ending, and more as we try to make sense of Keeper.
