The Cinebabbling hits the ground running with the latest round of Whatchoo Watchin' Bout (2:30), followed by a chilling trio of horror movie reviews: The Blackcoat's Daughter (18:30), Saint Maud (27:40) and Villains (41:30). From there the boys chat all things Stephen King (48:25), from his stories to the many, many film and tv adaptations of his work (53:00) to the best and worst interpretations committed to the screen (1:28:50). Finally a spin of ye olde CineTron-3000 (1:37:40) gives yet another gift to our dear Cinebabblers.
This week Nikki and Kate watched The Blackcoat's Daughter and had one or two Reba digressions. But then they got down to brass tacks and talked about commonalities across exorcism movies, themes of loss and isolation, and then more Reba. And yes, Nikki and Kate did discover that she's a single mom who works two jobs, but tbh she probably does work too hard. Rated R for brutal bloody violence and brief strong language. Content warnings: Blood, gore, gun violence, car accident, death of a parent, death of a minor, jump scares, possession, vomit, mental institution scene, hospital scene. Mark and Zanandi (@ZaNandi on Twitter) discuss the 2015 horror film The Blackcoat's Daughter. Directed by Oz Perkins, and starring Kiernan Shipka, Emma Roberts, and Lucy Boynton, the film focuses on what happens when a lonely and isolated teenager is possessed by a supremely jerky demon. In this episode, they discuss low-key exorcisms, bleak humor, and why it's one of the best horror films released in the last 10 years. Enjoy!

Malena y Juanse hablan del estreno en cartelera "Gretel & Hansel", de Osgood Perkins y sobre las otras dos películas que dirigió: "The Blackcoat's Daughter" y "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House"
Oz Perkins returns with his third feature, 2020's Gretel & Hansel, a deceptively intelligent and spooky subversion of the Grimm Brothers' famous fairy tale. Perkins, who helmed The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015) and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016), is known for slow-burning, heady films. And while Gretel & Hansel is no departure from the form, it sure is a wicked improvement. For fans of witches and The Witch.

It's an episode of dynamic duos this week! Director Os Perkins follows up his horror flick The Blackcoat's Daughter with Gretel and Hansel, a dark reimagining of the Grimm brothers' (already pretty dark) fairy tale about two intrepid youngsters and an evil witch. The guys also take some time to hang out with two of St. Peter's successors with their review of The Two Popes, the acting showcase that nabbed its stars, Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, two Oscar nominations. Oz Perkins' new film, Gretel and Hansel, is the main feature this week. Is it sweet or did he kick us into a fire? But before that, we have a ton of horror reviews for you. We're talking The Blackcoat's Daughter, Maniac (1980), Come to Daddy, Cannibal Ferox, I Am Mother, House II, House III: The Horror Show, The Last Astronaut by David Wellington, and Meathead by Stephen Barnard.
This week we go over the film written/directed by Oz Perkins; we reveal what we would do if our buddy Satan was possessing us; and of course we got a Horror House 5 in there for good measure. To celebrate the release of Gretel & Hansel, Heather Wixson is joined by director Osgood Perkins on this special episode of Corpse Club! Listen as Perkins discusses his new take on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, including the film's haunting visuals, the subversive script by Rob Hayes, the story's reflections of how society mistreats women, and the powerful performances by Alice Krige and Sophia Lillis. Perkins also reflects on directing his previous horror films The Blackcoat's Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. So, whether you grew up reading Grimm fairy tales or you're following the trail of bread crumbs for the first time, sit back, relax, and enjoy this special episode of Daily Dead's official podcast!

The Talksploitation duo bundle up with Osgood Perkin's The Blackcoat's Daughter. Hear Tony think out loud as he tries to understand the layers of the film, which probably comes off as a bumbling drivel, and all the while Cait wishes a spooky shadowy specter would whisk her away from the conversation. “Mad Men” fans watched Kiernan Shipka grow up on the small screen in her role as Sally Draper, the daughter of Betty and Don. Her nuanced and captivating performance earned her critical acclaim and an older sophisticated fan base for such a young talent. Since then, Shipka, who was born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, has taken on a host of different projects, including Ryan Murphy’s “Feud” and the psychological horror film “The Blackcoat’s Daughter.” At the beginning of 2018, she stepped into the magical, mischievous world of half-human, half-witch Sabrina Spellman in Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” based on the Archie comic book series. In this conversation, Shipka, who is about to turn 20, talks about her new film, “Let it Snow,” a teen drama about the friendships, love lives, and futures of a group of high school seniors, co-starring Shameik Moore and Isabel Moner. She also talks lessons learned growing up in the “Mad Men” world, what it’s like now to have a fan base closer to her own age, as well as her style philosophy, her go-to karaoke songs, and her love of a good power nap.

The duo finish up The Devil Made Me Do It Month with The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015), the writing and directorial debut of Oz Perkins. This is a moody, affecting film with an undeservedly low IMDB score, an interesting premise that relies on some unfair withholding of information, and a whole bunch of replayed scenes featuring ambient noises, noisy radiators and creaking doors.
With the Chattanooga Film Festival just over a month away, Eric and I have already begun our CFF 2019 coverage...by talking about the previous years of CFF. The Chattanooga Film Festival is so much more than just the movies...it is a cinematic experience and an opportunity to talk with other people who love cinema just as much as you do (including many of the people involved in making the films screened at CFF)...but, obviously the movies are a pretty major part. And while I wish that each episode leading up to CFF could be a deep-dive into every single movie screened each year, that just isn't possible (but, I'm sure that Eric and I will eventually be covering all of the movies screened in previous years in future episodes). So, instead, each week we will be focusing on a few movies that really highlight the Chattanooga Film Festival experience from each of the previous years that I have attended (this will be the fourth year that I have attended CFF and the first year that Eric has attended) as a way to give Eric (and our listeners) a glimpse of what CFF is like, starting with 2016. The criteria for the movies picked from each year are: 1) they are movies that I saw during the film festival that year, 2) they are movies that are available online (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.), 3) they are movies that represented the experience of the film fest, rather than just being a good movie (there are some movies that are great movies, but you could get roughly the same experience seeing them in any movie theater...and there are other movies that might not necessarily be as "good," but it will be an experience that you are not likely to have outside of a film festival). With those criteria in mind, the films from 2016 that are covered in tonight's episode are: The Wraith, Bad Blood: The Movie, The Blackcoat's Daughter, Demon, The Invitation, and Buddymoon. We end the episode talking about the wave 1 announcement of the films that will be screening at the Chattanooga Film Festival 2019, including the announcement that Crispin Hellion Glover will be attending for a screening and presentation!!!! For tickets or more information (including complete lists of films screened each year) go to chattfilmfest.org - and be sure to follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter to stay up to date on announcements for CFF 2019. And be sure to come back next week as Eric and I continue our CFF pre-coverage by discussing some of the films from CFF 2017. gargylereviews.wixsite.com/thegargyle music from besound.com
