Letzte Woche Freitag hat die Vereinigung Deutscher Reisejournalisten zum fünfzigsten Mal ihren Ehrenpreis 2026 an ihn verliehen. Diesen Preis gibt es jedes Jahr und er wird verliehen für besondere Verdienste um den Tourismus. Das Warum erfahrt Ihr inhaltlich im Podcast-Talk. Danach wiederum war ein Tag später in einer der wenigen verbliebenen Hafenkneipen in Duisburg – Ruhrort. Eine gute Idee finde ich immer noch, denn wo kann man sich mit einem Duisburger besser über seine Verdienste austauschen, als in einer Kneipe? Der Talk Als dann: Kneipentalk mit Jürgen Zupancic, Chefredakteur und Verleger von „Clever Reisen“, einer Zeitschrift, die – so ganz zufällig – in diesem Jahr ihr Vierzigstes feiert. Wie macht man daraus ein Geschäftsmodell, dass dann auch noch 40 Jahre mit wachsendem Erfolg auf dem Markt ist und wie kommt man auf so eine gleichzeitig glanzvoll und bescheuerte Idee? – Das war meine Eingangsfrage. Und von da an haben wir uns durch Entstehungsgeschichte und Entwicklung einer Zeitschrift geredet, die 1986 als „Fliegen & Sparen“ an den Start ging und deren Titel sich später in „Clever Reisen“ wandelte. Es geht um Geschäftsphilosophie, nicht vorhandene Businesspläne und eine viel zu geringe Zahl von DIN A4 Versandtaschen. Es geht inhaltlich um eine Zeit, die einem auf den ersten Blick wie die „Wild West-Zeiten“ im Tourismus vorkommen. Es geht um Biergärten, unkonventionelle Geschäftsideen und auch um Rück- und Schicksalsschläge. Erste Ausgabe 1986 und Ausgabe 1 / 2026 – Foto: Markt Control Wir reden über eine Marktlücke, die es geschafft hat, gegen viele große und schicke Reisemagazine zu bestehen und vor allem, sie zu überleben. Erfolgsgeheimnis: Konzentration aufs Wesentliche? Clever Reisen ist auch ein Paradebeispiel für guten, weitestgehend unabhängigen Journalismus. Und vielleicht sind Zeitschrift und Jürgens Arbeit auch typisch Ruhrgebiet: Achtmal hinfallen – Neun Mal wieder aufstehen Und letztlich geht es um ganz Privates. Eine Freundschaft, einen Fußballclub, zwar viel zu wenig Freizeit aber ein Sinn für Prioritäten, zumindest wenn das Saisoneröffnungsspiel „auf Schalke“ ansteht. Wichtig noch. Allen, die „Clever Reisen“ tatsächlich noch nicht kennen, erklärt Jürgen Zupancic, warum sich so ein Abonnement lohnt, für die eigene Urlaubsplanung. Am 24. Februar jährt sich der Beginn des russischen Angriffskrieges gegen die Ukraine zum vierten Mal. Die Ukraine erlebt gerade einen Winter, der als der härteste seit Beginn des Kriegs beschrieben wird: weil er besonders kalt ist und Russland gnadenlos und ganz gezielt Angriffe auf die Energie- und Wärme-Infrastruktur von Städten und Regionen fährt. Hunderttausende Menschen müssen bei Temperaturen von bis zu minus 20 Grad in der Ukraine überleben und haben zeitweise keinen Strom. Vassili Golod, der Ukraine-Korrespondent der ARD, spricht im Podcast "Talk mit K" „Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger“ über die aktuelle Lage in der Ukraine. Er ist vor wenigen Tagen erst von Kiew nach Köln gereist, wo er lebt und arbeitet, wenn er nicht gerade aus der Ukraine berichtet. Der Kölner Musiker, Texter und Sänger Stefan Knittler spricht im Podcast „Talk mit K“ des „Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger“ über die neuen Hits der Session. Knittler ist nicht nur einer der Moderatoren der „Loss mer singe“-Tour, sondern auch der Komponist der Hymne „Kumm loss mer singe“, die zu jedem „Loss mer singe“-Abend gehört. Im Podcast geht es darum, was den Überhit der Session, die „Karnevalsmaus“ der Band Druckluft ausmacht, dass es in diesem Jahr die großen Namen wie Brings, Bläck Fööss und die Räuber schwer haben und die Frage, ob der kölsche Karneval zunehmend auch von Ballermann-Songs geprägt wird. Knittler erzählt von der „Loss mer singe“-Tour, die trotz kurzer Session rund 70 Mal in verschiedenen Kneipen und Lokalen gastiert hat – inklusive Auswärtsspielen in Berlin, München, Hamburg und erstmals auch in Stuttgart. Im zweiten Teil des Gesprächs geht es um Knittlers persönliche Geschichte: Viele kennen ihn als „Kumm loss mer singe“-Interpreten, aber seine Karriere begann als Schlagzeuger der englischsprachigen Band Bagdad Babies, die von 1988 bis 1992 eine treue Fangemeinde in Köln und Umgebung hatte. Nach der Auflösung der Band folgte eine lange Pause von der Bühne – erst nach über zehn Jahren kehrte Knittler zurück, diesmal als kölscher Liedermacher und Sänger. Wie kam es zu diesem Wandel? Knittler erzählt von seiner Leidenschaft, Welthits ins Kölsche zu übersetzen und seinem Auftritt bei der diesjährigen Pripro mit der kölschen Version von „Heroes“ von David Bowie. In Köln liegen die Temperaturen seit Wochen nachts am oder unter dem Gefrierpunkt - eine Temperatur, die lebensgefährlich ist, wenn man draußen übernachtet: Obdachlose Menschen sind in dieser Winterkälte sehr stark gefährdet. Malte Petrikat, Vorstandsvorsitzender des Vereins „Freunde der Kölner Straßen und ihrer Bewohner e.V.“, der Verein hinter dem Kölner Kältebus, spricht im Podcast "Talk mit K" des "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" mit Moderatorin Sarah Brasack über die Situation der wohnungslosen Menschen in Köln. Jede Nacht gehen bei der Hotline des Kältebusses in kalten Nächten zwischen 20 und 40 Anrufe ein, weil Kölnerinnen und Kölner wohnungslose Menschen melden, um die sie sich Sorgen machen. Petrikat spricht darüber, wie der Kältebus arbeitet, wie das Team aus Ehrenamtlern am Breslauer Platz Obdachlosen Essen, Kleidung, Schlafsäcke, Zelte und Zuwendung schenkt. Er erzählt, wie sich die Situation in den vergangenen Jahren verschärft hat, aus welchen Gründen die Menschen, die er durch seine Arbeit kennengelernt hat, obdachlos geworden sind und welche Schicksale ihm besonders nahegehen. Außerdem erklärt er, welche Spenden der Verein gebrauchen kann - und was er Menschen rät, die unsicher sind, wie sie Obdachlosen begegnen sollen, die offensichtlich Hilfe brauchen.

Schwups, sind zehn Jahre rum. Freude, weil es eigentlich ganz gut gelaufen ist. Leid, weil just zum Jubiläum das Finanzamt an meiner „Gewinnerzielungsabsicht“ zu zweifeln beginnt. Nur, was kann ich dafür, dass partout kein Zielgebiet, kein Veranstalter und die wenigsten Anbieter wenigstens eine klitzekleine Werbung schalten wollen. Dabei ist das doch erschwinglich. Bisher gab es keinerlei Auftragsproduktionen, oder Kooperationen, wie das im Podcaster- und Bloggerdeutsch heißt. Vielleicht bin ich deshalb selber schuld und gleichzeitig ein wenig stolz, sauberen Reisejournalismus anzubieten. Das Klima Die Klimakrise führt zum ersten inhaltlichen Highlight und zum Podcast-Talk, den ich auf der Tourismusbörse in Berlin mit Harald Zeiss führen konnte. Er ist Professor für Tourismus an der Hochschule Harz und – vermutlich hört er das nicht so gern – der „Umweltpapst“ in Sachen Tourismus. Schaut man auf die Zahlen, ist der Niedergang des Reisens in die Vereinigten Staaten nicht mehr abzustreiten. Perspektivisch wird es eher schlimmer, als besser: Besucher müssen sich im nächsten Jahr darauf einstellen, dass auf dem ESTA-Einreiseantrag die „Social Media Accounts“ abgefragt werden. Ein Schelm, wer das Zutreffende denkt, denn ESTA ist ja keine Einreisegenehmigung, sondern nur ein Einreiseantrag. Ganz nebenbei: Der Urlaub in den Vereinigten Staaten ist sauteuer geworden. Europa und Deutschland Also hab ich mich auf Deutschland konzentriert und auf Europa. Da gibt's reichlich Entdeckungspotential. Das habe ich auf meinen Recherchetouren genutzt. Gesundheit und weiter Spaß an dem, was ich da mache. 2026 wird das Jahr sein, wo ich zum 40. Mal auf die Internationale Tourismus Börse (ITB) in Berlin fahren werde. Hoffentlich ist sie so produktiv wie immer. Und dann wünsche ich allen Reiseradio Hörer:innen und Website-Lesenden ein ähnlich gesundes, schönes und erfolgreiches Jahr. Vergesst nicht zu reisen.
