This production has been on my mind for a long time as earlier in the year I embarked on this Soul-Unique mission to revisit an excursion celebrating Groovy tunes that have made up part of or full blown motion picture sound tracks forever popular in the 1970s to 1990s on LPs or tapes.   Their popularity was enhanced further by their cover art depicting scenes that related to scenes or performing artists or backdrops that to this day play a pivotal role in immortalising the Art often hand drawn or photographed to provide instant visualised access to your cherished memories of what awaits inside the media. The movie scores cover many categories that were key to boosting a storyline like! A compilation of tracks featured in key points that make scenes memorable by boosting the scene with a track either written specifically for the movie or using  an artists already recorded release to invoke  an emotional impact or statement. A full blown score is often composed by either a composer or producer and creates both powerful and emotional elements that are laid over the movie

Two shafts go for review this week! The first is TPT's Nitro driver shaft in the 16/Hi configuration. It offers stability and consistency that I haven't seen this year in driver. We start with our guest's formative musical memories, from hearing Isaac Hayes' 'Theme from Shaft' and meeting Little Anthony & the Imperials to seeing the Jackson Five live at Radio City Music Hall in February 1975. His earliest inklings of New York's rap scene take us back to his 2008 piece about the trailblazing DJ Kool Herc playing block parties in the Bronx of the early '70s. We hear about Michael's first pieces for The Source, arguably the most important hip hop magazine of the late '80s and '90s, and about his collaboration with Havelock Nelson on the 1991 book Bring the Noise. We also discuss a Barry White interview he did for Danyel Smith at Vibe and learn about his friendships with fellow writers from Barry Michael Cooper to Amy Linden. The latter's audio interview with TLC ties in with Michael's own writing on the hugely successful Atlanta trio, and we listen to clips of Chilli, T-Boz and Left Eye talking to Amy in late 1998 about their upcoming third album FanMail. JJ is a new kind of Shaft, a nerdy, millennial tech-expert working for the FBI. But when he decides to conduct a personal investigation into the death of a close friend, JJ is forced to team up with his absentee, old-fashioned, private eye father. If you think this sounds like a goofy "buddy cop" premise, you're not wrong, as the 2019 Shaft attempts to take the series in a more comedy-based direction. Is it successful as a comedy? Reducing CO2 emissions with permanent magnet shaft generators Shaft generators harness the main engine's power to produce electricity for a vessel's onboard systems, significantly reducing reliance on auxiliary diesel generators that run with lower fuel efficiency. Permanent magnet shaft generators improve fuel efficiency and cut greenhouse gas emissions, making them a key technology toward meeting the International Maritime Organization's (IMO's) target of achieving net-zero emissions by around 2050. Permanent magnet shaft generators are estimated to cut carbon emissions compared to conventional shaft generators with electric excitation by over 100,000 metric tons per year - equivalent to the emissions of over 22,000 passenger cars with internal combustion engines. The savings are even greater compared to conventional genset-based systems - over 600,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, equal to the carbon emissions of about 140,000 passenger cars. Over 300 The Switch permanent magnet shaft generators are already fully operational, serving a diverse fleet of container ships, gas carriers, bulk carriers, tankers and car carriers. These have accumulated more than 5 million operating hours with no vessel downtime due to failures. The Switch invests in ongoing research and development to further improve the efficiency and reliability of its solutions so that shipowners stay ahead of evolving environmental standards. "Field-proven technologies like permanent magnet shaft generators are vital stepping stones as the industry navigates toward a net-zero future," added Miika Reinikka, CEO of The Switch. But standing in his way is a vindictive local gangster (Jeffrey Wright)...and a troubled behind-the-scenes production which frustrated many involved with making the movie. Quatrième et dernier invité, Sébastien Marsset, arrivé en 27e position. Écoutez-le dans ce 117e épisode d'Into The Wind, enregistré le 5 mai 2025, peu de temps après le retour de son Vendée Globe.--Il disposait probablement du plus petit budget de cette édition du Vendée Globe : 900 000 € au total pour les trois saisons et la course, qu'il termine en 27e position, après un peu plus de 91 jours de mer. Pas question pour Sébastien Marsset, malgré ces bouts de ficelles, de renoncer à la régate : d'où le concept de "sobriété performante" revendiqué par le Nantais, né à Paris voilà un peu plus de 40 ans.Formé sur le tas, à l'école de l'habitable et du convoyage, d'abord, à l'Ecole nationale de voile où il passe son brevet d'Etat, ensuite, il se lance, après de nombreuses régates en équipage, dans le circuit mini : 4 saisons d'apprentissage, avant d'être recruté comme petite main chez Groupama, pour des coups de main techniques ponctuels. Toujours dispo, toujours candidat, il finit par être embarqué comme technicien et navigateur de moins de 30 ans remplaçant d pour la Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 remportée par l'équipe de Franck Cammas.Le solide gaillard, connu pour son impact physique et son engagement, change de dimension, le téléphone se met à sonner : l'équipe Spindrift l'appelle pour naviguer sur l'ex Maxi Trimaran Banque Populaire, puis c'est Alvimedica qui l'engage pour la Volvo 2014-2015 - où il court, cette fois, toutes les étapes sauf une - avant de retourner boucler un Trophée Jules Verne avec Spindrift, sans parler des circuits GC32 et match racing avec l'équipage de Yann Guichard.Il passe ensuite au solo en Claass40 mais doit abandonner le Rhum 2018, enchaîne avec la Solitaire l'année suivante avant d'être recruté par Romain Attanasio sur son projet Imoca. C'est là que son projet de Vendée Globe prend corps, un peu ralenti par le Covid l'année suivante. En 2021, il accomplit une nouvelle saison avec Romain Attanasio, sur l'ex-Malizia, goûtant au foiler, mais il est temps de voler de ses propres ailes en Imoca : en 2022, il achète l'ancien Delta Dore à Erik Nigon et se lance dans les qualifs du Vendée Globe, montant une petite équipe commando qui l'emmène au départ avec le plus vieux bateau de la flotte.Un Vendée Globe où il prend du plaisir, malgré une remontée de l'Atlantique difficile, et qui lui donne immédiatement envie de recommencer ! Mais pas à n'importe quel prix, lui qui sait les sacrifices que demande cette épreuve : pour 2028, Sébastien veut jouer avec les foilers, visant un bateau d'occasion de la génération 2020 et un budget largement redimensionné. Écoutez-le dans ce 116e épisode d'Into The Wind, enregistré le 22 avril 2025, peu de temps après le retour de son Vendée Globe.--Rares sont les marins à avoir goûté à autant de supports, si jeune : à 35 ans, Sam Goodchild, qui vient de boucler le Vendée Globe à la 9e position après 76 jours de course, n'a que le mot "apprendre" à la bouche. Alors, depuis qu'à 15 ans il s'est mis en tête de boucler le tour du monde en solitaire, le jeune Anglais multiplie les expériences.Après une jeunesse vécue aux Antilles sur le bateau familial, il rentre en Angleterre en pension puis intègre le circuit habitable et goûte au match racing, toujours partant pour filer un coup de main pour bricoler. C'est comme ça qu'il rencontre Alex Thomson et Mike Golding et vit le Vendée Globe 2008 de l'intérieur, après des premières transatlantiques et transpacifiques. Il a à peine 18 ans et arrête ses études : il sera marin.Il entre à l'Artemis Offshore Academy, et se lance en Figaro, pour quatre saisons : un apprentissage rude mais précieux, d'autant que, déjà, à côté, il multiplie les piges en Class40, gagnant la Normandy Channel Race en 2012. Quelques mois plus tard, il tombe à la mer lors de la deuxième étape de la Global Ocean Race, récupéré après 40 minutes à l'eau par son équipier Conrad Colman.Pendant ces riches années, il navigue en VOR65, en MOD70, en Imoca, désormais reconnu par les marins français, qui apprécient sa polyvalence... et son français parfait ! Habitué aux projets des autres, il se lance en Class40 pour le Rhum 2018, soutentu par Netflix, mais il démâte quelques jours après le départ. L'année suivante, il fait la rencontre de Leyton, qui lui confie la barre du Figaro, puis celle de l'Ocean Fifty.Cette fois, il a son propre projet, deux saisons complètes - dont une 3e place sur la Transat Jacques Vabre - et un statut de favori au départ de la Route du Rhum 2022 ; malheureusement, il est gravement blessé par sa colonne de winch dès le départ et doit renoncer.La suite était déjà écrite : à peine remis, il prend la barre de l'ancien Imoca de Thomas Ruyant et intègre la structure du Nordiste pour préparer le Vendée Globe, enfin ! En deux saisons, il accumule les places de 3e et décroche un titre de champion du monde Imoca, participe à The Ocean Race avec Holcim PRB, démâte quelques semaines avant le départ mais prend le départ de son tour du monde en solo serein et heureux.Il avait deux objectifs : terminer classé et prendre du plaisir. Objectifs atteints, et maintenant ? Sam Goodchild reconnaît que se remettre en selle n'est pas forcément évident et que réaliser son rêve est un peu vertigineux. Écoutez-le dans ce 115e épisode d'Into The Wind, enregistré le 4 avril 2025, peu de temps après le retour de son Vendée Globe.-- Si on s'en tient aux grandes dates de sa carrière nautique, la trajectoire de Tanguy Le Turquais, 35 ans, est limpide : une enfance à bord d'un bateau amarré à Vannes, un brevet d'Etat voile et un capitaine 200 comme diplômes, cinq saisons en Mini 6.50, cinq saisons en Figaro, trois saisons en Imoca et un magnifique Vendée Globe 2024-2025 conclu en 84 jours, un petit 1/4 d'heure derrière Benjamin Ferré, premier bateau à dérives.Dans les faits, évidemment, ça a été un peu plus compliqué que ça !Issu d'un milieu modeste et pas très porté par les études, il travaille d'abord très jeune en école de voile, se spécialise en mécaniqie marine et entame une carrière de convoyeur qui lui forge son expérience sur le terrain. Sans le sou, il achète avec Clarisse Crémer, qu'il rencontre en croisière, un Pogo pour se lancer dans la Mini. Au bout de deux saisons de vaches maigres, avec deux bouts de ficelles et sans le sou, il finit 6e de la Mini 2013 et récidive en 2015 pour accrocher un podium, toujours en série. Bilan des années mini : deux titres de champion de France promotion.Les années Figaro constituent un passage obligatoire, à ses yeux, pour parfaire son apprentissage vers le Vendée Globe, un projet qui commence à germer dans un coin de sa tête. Mais il le dit lui-même, il n'y prend pas beaucoup de plaisir. C'est là, aussi, que germe en lui l'envie de "ne pas être qu'un simple panneau publicitaire". Il ne parvient pas à convaincre son sponsor Queguiner de le suivre en Imoca, alors il y va tout seul, en soutenant une cause, celle de Lazare, qui organise des colocations entre sans-abris et jeunes actifs.A l'automne 2021, il lance son projet en achetant l'ancien Imoca de Damien Seguin : là aussi, le chemain sera semé d'embûches, entre Transat Jacques Vabre finie in extremis et sprint retour, accusations de triche avec sa compagne Clarisse Crémer - ils ont été blanchis par la FF Voile - mais toujours en jouant dans le paquet de tête des bateaux à dérives.Son Vendée Globe sera à l'image de l'homme et du marin : une explosion d'émotions au début, puis à fond, jusqu'au dernier jour, pour finir juste derrière Benjamin Ferré, avec qui une relation unique s'est créée.Et maintenant ? Pas de Vendée Globe supplémentaire : pour lui, cette course ne se vit qu'une fois, et les émotions y ont été tellement fortes, qu'on ne peut les galvauder.Mais celui qui dit être devenu "entrepreneur malgré lui" a déjà repris son bâton de pélerin pour se lancer dans un nouveau projet, en Ocean Fifty cette fois. Chaque vendredi du 25 juillet au 15 août, Tip & Shaft vous propose sa série estivale baptisée Un été post Vendée Globe, l'occasion d'écouter ou de réécouter les récits de skippers ayant participé à la 10e édition. Premier invité, Benjamin Ferré, arrivé en 16e position. Écoutez-le dans ce 114e épisode d'Into The Wind, enregistré le 21 mars 2025, peu de temps après le retour de son Vendée Globe.--Il parle d'une voix calme et tranquille, mais sous chaque intonation percent les convictions et une passion pour son métier, qu'il Sur le papier un destin de cadre sup à La Défense l'attendait à la sortie de son école de commerce. Mais tout ne s'est pas passé comme prévu. Et 10 ans plus tard, Benjamin Ferré s'est retrouvé au départ du Vendée Globe, bouclé en un peu moins de 85 jours, premier bateau à dérives.En retraçant son parcours, on comprend que la route initiale n'était pas aussi tracée que cela. Pas beaucoup de bateau pendant sa jeunesse, mais beaucoup de sport ; un tour du monde en stop pendant son année de césure - quand ses camarades de promo enchaînaient les stages - dont il revient changé ; une traversée de l'Atlantique au sextant avec des copains ; une expérience en start-up et très vite le goût de l'entrepreneuriat, puisqu'il crée sa boîte et multiplie les projets.Et puis, un jour à Paris, un dîner avec un concurrent de la Mini Transat, rencontré par hasard, va tout changer. Il se lance dans la préparation de l'édition 2019 en rachetant le bateau de Clarisse Crémer. Tout aurait pu s'arrêter en 2018 avec une double hernie discale, mais il surmonte l'obstacle, progresse à vitesse grand V pour finir par décrocher un podium en bateau de série.S'il se fait plus discret ensuite, c'est qu'il réfléchit avec beaucoup de méthode au Vendée Globe. En est-il capable ? Un dîner avec Jean Le Cam va faire tomber la dernière barrière et sceller entre les deux hommes une relation forte et durable. Après des mois de travail, il trouve de quoi acheter l'ancien Banque Populaire avec lequel Clarisse Crémer vient de terminer son premier Vendée Globe et signe avec Monnoyeur.La marche est haute, mais comme pour la Mini Transat, Benjamin Ferré va beaucoup travailler et beaucoup naviguer, enchaînant les courses et les performances pendant les 2 années de préparation. Résultat : un Vendée Globe marqué par une bataille homérique avec Tanguy Le Turquais, qu'il devance de 16 minutes pour la première place des "dériveurs".Et maintenant ? Priorité aux proches, la famille, les amis.
