When and how did America’s police forces move from “serve and protect” to “us versus them”? We discuss the militarization of the police in the U.S. That comes right after a conversation with an activist who explains why she wants to see CPD defunded.

Wright State University employees gave back to the community by volunteering throughout Raider Country at six area nonprofit organizations. It was all part of a March 4 university-wide service day opportunity for employees, who were able to take a half-day off work to help the community without having to use leave time. All 88 volunteer slots for the second We Serve U Day were filled. The locations that were chosen were, 4 Paws for Ability in Xenia, Crayons To Classrooms, YWCA, Clothes That Works, The Foodbank and the Office of Admissions at Wright State. “What we really hope people take away from this opportunity is that they make a connection with a local non-profit and they volunteer on a regular basis,” said Joanie Hendricks, co-chair of We Serve U. Wright State employees will have another chance to participate at the next We Serve U Day on Oct. 9.

Pastor David Franklin, is the senior pastor of the Miracle City Adventist Church in Baltimore Maryland. The church under his leadership in 2016 embarked on a campaign to make 100,000 touches in their community. They completed it in October. Pastor Franklin shares the philosophy behind the campaign and how it is a part of moving the members out into being Community Servants.

Pastor Jerome Hurst, Senior Pastor of the Southeast Adventist Church in Cleveland, OH and the Community services leader for the Allegheny West Conference leads off our Community Servants series. Elder Hurst shares how he led his church to be involved in the community and to be a hub for services to their neighborhood.

Pastor Taurus Montgomery, leads the Harbor of Hope Adventist Church in Benton Harbor Michigan. He is passionate about empowering and uplifting their community through serving. He joins us to share what God is doing through that church and how others can lead their church to serve.

Pastor Darriel Hoy serves as the Youth Director for the Central States Conference. Her background and passion have led her to be involved in mobilizing youth, young adults and churches in general to serve their community. Pastor Hoy shares a Biblical foundation for service and practical steps to engage churches in hands on ministry to their community.
