A discarded cup of coffee is what finally brought serial killer John Getreu down. After evading justice for nearly 50 years, investigators used DNA recovered from a discarded coffee cup to expose a man who had spent decades hiding behind the image of a trusted Boy Scouts leader, mentor, husband, and neighbor. But when his DNA was compared to evidence preserved from long-forgotten crime scenes, it revealed a vicious predator linked to the murders of multiple women. In this episode, we unravel the astonishing investigation that finally caught up with John Getreu, examine the warning signs that were missed for decades, and explore how advances in DNA technology finally exposed a killer who thought he'd gotten away with murder.Follow/Subscribe wherever you are listening!Join our Patreon family! Coffee Cups And Whispered Dreams by Bill Bennett
This week on Undressed with Pol' and Patrik, we're taking you inside the world of hip-hop royalty with the incredibly talented Chey Smith, daughter of legendary Wu-Tang Clan icon Method Man. What starts as a hilarious conversation about luxury cars, scratched rims, BMWs, and growing up surrounded by one of music's most iconic families quickly turns into one of our most heartfelt episodes yet. Chey shares what life was really like growing up with Method Man as a father, revealing that despite his superstar status, he was always present for school pickups, family dinners, Halloween parades, bowling nights, and movie outings. We celebrate Wu-Tang Clan's upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction while laughing about whether we'll be sneaking into the Grammy Museum celebration. We discover Chey is much more than "Method Man's daughter." She surprises us with stories about working at Wendy's and Chipotle, earning minimum wage despite coming from rap royalty, graduating with a psychology degree, wanting to become an orthodontist, teaching elementary school, acting, rapping, and building her own career from the ground up. She even treats us to an exclusive freestyle rap featuring Pol', Patrik and SnowWhite90210 that has us laughing from beginning to end. The laughs continue as we dive into dating disasters, luxury hotels, Birkin bags, tattoos with hidden meanings, her beloved dogs Nugget and Bosco, and why pineapples mean friendship... unless they're upside down in Palm Beach! Along the way we swap stories about our own 23-year love story and why knowing someone's hotel matters more than their pickup line. Then everything changes. Pol' performs one of his most emotional Armenian Coffee Readings yet. Immediately spotting a mysterious letter "H," the reading uncovers painful chapters Chey had buried deep inside herself. As the symbols unfold, we discuss toxic relationships, losing your identity while trying to save someone else, learning to stop living in another person's shadow, and finally reclaiming your own purpose. The reading becomes even more emotional when Pol' reveals that someone is constantly praying for her—a revelation that instantly brings thoughts of her incredible mother and leaves all of us fighting back tears. Chey bravely opens up about a past relationship that changed the course of her life, fractured friendships and family dynamics, and forced her to rebuild herself from the inside out. Together, we explore what it means to release people who no longer serve your purpose, embrace your own gifts, and stop being afraid of being truly seen. We wrap up celebrating Chey's exciting future, including her upcoming album, new music, acting career, Season 2 of Red Hook, and her determination to step fully into her womanhood, her artistry, and her own spotlight. This episode is packed with celebrity stories, hilarious moments, heartfelt honesty, powerful life lessons, and one unforgettable coffee reading that reminds us all that sometimes healing begins the moment we finally choose ourselves. "God won't give you more than you can handle." You've heard it. You've probably said it. Maybe someone said it to you at exactly the wrong moment — when everything was falling apart and that phrase landed like a thud instead of a comfort. In this message, Nick Robinson digs into where this saying actually comes from, why it gets used, and why it might be doing more harm than good. The Bible doesn't promise that life will stay manageable. It actually tells a very different story — one full of ordinary people dropped into impossible situations with no way out. The Red Sea. The walls of Jericho. Three hundred men and some clay pots facing an army of 135,000. God didn't make those situations easier. He made them impossible — on purpose. Because the goal was never self-sufficiency. It was surrender. If you're in a season where life feels like way more than you can handle, this one is for you. The CopDoc Podcast - Season 10 - Episode 170EPISODE SUMMARYWhat happens when a police chief walks into his first department meeting and tells the staff, "I'm here to serve you — not the other way around"? For Chief Tom Wetzel of the University Circle Police Department in Cleveland, Ohio, that statement was not a slogan. It was a commitment he has carried through three decades of policing, from dispatcher to lieutenant to chief. In this conversation, Tom shares a leadership philosophy built on servant leadership, dignity, and what he calls the "sweet spot" between accountability and motivation. He is direct about what he has seen: too many police departments creating more stress for their officers inside the building than on the streets. The politics, the gossip, the nitpicking, the heavy-handed discipline — it follows officers home, sits with them at the dinner table, and follows them to bed. He believes that is not just a morale problem. It is a leadership problem, and it is fixable.Tom also discusses his book, A Cop and a Coffee Cup, a short, practical blueprint for police supervisors and leaders. The concept is simple: imagine a wise, seasoned officer sitting across the table from a young leader, with one cup of coffee and one shot to pass on what matters most. That is the book. It covers how to develop inspired and accountable officers, how to handle discipline with grace and discretion, and why the word "clemency" belongs in every chief's vocabulary. "God works in mysterious ways." You've probably heard it. Maybe you've said it. But what does it actually mean — and is it an invitation to go deeper, or just a way to shut down the questions we're afraid to ask? In this message, Britt digs into the tension that Moses named in Deuteronomy 29 — that there are secret things that belong to God, and revealed things that belong to us. That line hasn't changed. We live in the middle of both mystery and revelation, and God invites us to hold them together. There's a reason God doesn't show us everything. Some things we can't hold. Some things we're not ready for yet. And some things are meant to lead us into worship — into the kind of childlike wonder that stops us in our tracks and reminds us how infinite and good God really is. But mystery isn't the whole story. God has revealed himself — through scripture, through the Spirit, and most completely through Jesus. Not so we'd have all the answers, but so we'd know the one who does. This is an honest, searching message for anyone who has ever sat in a hard moment and wondered what God is actually doing.

Rejoice always. It's one of the most quoted commands in the New Testament. It's also one of the most misunderstood. For a lot of us, rejoicing has quietly become synonymous with pretending everything is okay — putting on a smile, walking into church, and performing a faith we're not sure we actually feel. But that's not what Paul meant. And it's not what Jesus meant either. In this message, Charlie works through all eight times the New Testament commands us to rejoice — and what he finds is that rejoicing shows up in three very different places: gladness, sadness, and suffering. Each one has a different source, a different motivation, and a different kind of weight. And taken together, they paint a picture of rejoicing that is far richer, far more honest, and far more hopeful than a coffee cup phrase. The takeaway? Rejoicing isn't a feeling. It's a direction. It's not about what you're experiencing. It's about where you're facing. And when you understand that, "rejoice always" stops feeling like a pressure to perform — and starts feeling like an invitation to trust.
Most of us grew up believing that God has one specific plan for our lives — one right path, one right choice, one right outcome. And if we're not careful, that belief quietly shifts our goal from being a faithful person to being a person who gets it right. The pressure is exhausting. And honestly? It might be built on a misreading of scripture. In this message, DLynn Miracle digs into one of the most quoted verses in Christian culture — Jeremiah 29:11 — and unpacks what it actually meant in context. Spoiler: it wasn't written for someone trying to pick the right career. It was written to a people in exile who couldn't see any way forward. And what God said to them wasn't a life blueprint. It was a reminder that their story was hidden inside his — and that they were not forgotten. The invitation isn't to figure your life out. It's to surrender it. And when you do, you'll find you have more freedom than you think — and that God is more faithful than you can imagine.

We live in a world that has made safety a religion. And honestly? Most of us have brought that same instinct into our faith. We want God's protection more than God's will. We want the blessings without the cost. We want a Jesus that's manageable. But that's not the Jesus we find in Scripture. In this message, Charlie digs into a phrase a lot of us have heard — "the safest place you can be is the center of God's will" — and asks whether we've gotten that wrong. Because the disciples walked toward the place where people tried to stone Jesus. Because Paul's resume was shipwrecks and beatings and prison. Because the Hall of Faith in Hebrews doesn't just include the miracles. It includes the ones who were tortured, wandered, and suffered — and of whom the world was not worthy. Safety is a good. But is it our best good? Charlie offers three questions worth asking alongside "is it safe?" — is it on mission, is it worth the cost, and is it faithful? This isn't a guilt trip. It's a conversation about what it actually looks like to follow a God who walked into the cross.
Philippians 4:13 is probably on more gym bags and locker room walls than any other verse in the Bible. And most of us grew up believing it meant God would help us accomplish anything we set our minds to. But what if we've been reading it wrong? In this message, Charlie digs into what Paul was actually saying when he wrote those words from a Roman prison cell, hungry, cold, and completely dependent on others just to eat. It wasn't a promise of limitless potential. It was something quieter and honestly a lot more powerful than that. It's a theology of contentment. And in a culture that is constantly telling us we don't have enough, aren't enough, and need more to be happy, it might be exactly what we need to hear.

"Everything happens for a reason." Most of us have said it. Most of us have had it said to us. And it usually comes from a good place. But what if that phrase, as comforting as it sounds, actually tells the wrong story about who God is? In this message, Charlie digs into one of the most common phrases in Christian culture and asks a hard question. What does it really say about God when we use it? What does it say about evil, about our own responsibility, about the world we live in? The shift is simple but it changes everything. Not everything happens for a reason. Everything happens because of a reason. And no matter what that reason is, it's not beyond God's reach. To find out more about Oaks Chapel, visit OaksChapel.org.
We've all heard it. "Let go and let God." It sounds right. It feels spiritual. But is it the whole story? In this message, Charlie digs into one of the most popular phrases in Christian culture and asks a simple question: what if we've only been telling half the truth? Letting go of control is real and necessary. But the spiritual life was never meant to be passive. From Genesis to Philippians, God's plan has always been for his people to participate, not just step back and wait. If you've ever felt stuck between striving and surrendering, this one's for you.
Digital imaging is so ubiquitous today that it's easy to forget how improbable it once was. In this episode of TechSurge, guest host Nic Brathwaite sits down with Dr. Eric Fossum, inventor of the CMOS active pixel image sensor, to unpack the breakthrough that made it possible to embed cameras into billions of devices and the deeper lessons behind it.Eric explains how his work began not with consumer electronics, but with a NASA constraint: how to shrink a refrigerator-sized space camera into something small enough for spacecraft. The solution required a fundamental shift in architecture. By moving from CCD-based imaging to CMOS, where sensing and processing could happen on a single chip, he enabled a level of miniaturization and scalability that transformed cameras from standalone systems into embedded infrastructure. But the conversation goes far beyond the invention itself. Nic and Eric explore what it takes to commercialize deep technology, from the early days of Photobit to its acquisition by Micron, and the critical role ecosystems play in turning breakthroughs into global platforms. They discuss why intellectual property is less about protection and more about leverage, and why even the most important inventions require manufacturing scale, capital, and partnerships to succeed. The episode also looks forward. As AI systems increasingly rely on visual and physical data, sensors are shifting from tools designed for human perception to components optimized for machine intelligence. Eric highlights the challenges of pushing intelligence to the edge, the limitations of current architectures, and the growing importance of sensing technologies beyond traditional imaging—including molecular detection and new materials that go beyond silicon. While much of today's investment is concentrated in models and compute, this conversation makes the case that the next wave of innovation may come from deeper layers of the stack, where machines interact directly with the physical world. The future of AI may depend not just on how systems think, but on how they see, detect, and understand their environment. If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform.Sign up for our newsletter at techsurgepodcast.com for updates on upcoming TechSurge Live Summits and future Season 2 episodes.Episode LinksConnect with Eric and learn more about his work and recognition: https://engineering.dartmouth.edu/community/faculty/eric-fossum Learn more about CMOS image sensors: https://www.spacefoundation.org/space_technology_hal/active-pixel-sensor/Timestamps02:00 From CCD to CMOS: Rethinking How Images Are Captured06:45 The NASA Problem: Shrinking a Camera for Space12:30 From Refrigerator to Coffee Cup and Beyond19:30 From Lab to Market: Founding Photobit26:00 Scaling the Technology: Micron, Manufacturing, and Cost31:00 The Role of IP in Deep Tech: Leverage vs Protection39:30 From Human Vision to Machine Perception44:30 Edge AI vs Centralized Compute: Where Intelligence Lives49:30 Beyond Imaging: Molecular Sensing and New Frontiers53:30 What Comes Next: Materials, Sensors, and the Limits of Silicon
