Chris Lee and Alfred Ezman preview the Nashville Regional, where host Vanderbilt was the country's overall No. 1 seed. Topics include: The host Commodores may have the deepest pitching staff in the country. It's headlined by lefty JD Thompson, righties Cody Bowker and Connor Fennell and a big-time, back-end arm in right-hander Sawyer Hawks. The Commodores are one of the country's best defensive teams, and talented hitters RJ Austin, Brodie Johnston, Braden Holcomb, Rustan Rigdon and Riley Nelson came on late as Vanderbilt came out of nowhere to get the tournament's top seed. Perennial rival Louisville could push the Commodores. Coach Dan McDonnell's pitching staff has struggled at times, but Patrick Forbes and Tucker Biven are talented and could help Louisville push anyone in the regional. Center fielder Lucas Moore (.470 OBP, 43 steals) is a sparkplug at the top of the lineup and the Cardinals have power from Eddie King Jr. (14 HR), Tague Davis (18) and Zion Rose (11). East Tennessee State travels west to face Vanderbilt for the first time this year; the Buccaneers knocked off Tennessee for the Vols' first loss this year and have the talent to do damage. ETSU mashed 116 home runs, with Cooper Torres (23), Cody Miller (16), Jamie Palmese (16) and Grant Gallagher (20) all having big years. The Buccaneers also have some really good arms in Michael Harpster and Brady Frederick and certainly have the talent to win games in Nashville. Wright State bashed 20 home runs, getting 23 from Boston Smith, 20 from JP Peltier and 13 from Cam GIlkerson. The Raiders must get quality pitching from Cam Allen, Garrett Peters and Jarrett Heilman in the regional if they're to advance.

Steve Layman visits with Belmont softball head coach Laura Matthews. The pair discuss Belmont's highly-successful regular season, which included marquee victories over Arizona State, Purdue and Maryland (x2). Matthews shares about how she managed expectations, approached scheduling, and navigated adversity, in large part due to leadership from her Bruin upperclassmen. Matthews provides revealing thoughts about the transformational changes at Rose Park, and how she and her coaching staff have forged strong bonds with the baseball and soccer coaches. Matthews also addresses personal challenges in coaching during COVID, overseeing the Wright State softball program when the university elected to no longer sponsor the sport, and seeing things to the other side in her native Nashville at Belmont. Layman sparks conversation on standout pitcher Maya Johnson and the qualities she possesses to rank among the nation's best. The pair also preview the MVC Softball Tournament, and get a laugh about Matthews' dream job.

Chris Lee, Alfred Ezman and Graham Doty react to the second weekend of SEC baseball and then power rank all 16 teams. Topics include: Arkansas beats TCU and Michigan in Arlington but might have lost pitcher Gage Wood, who left Sunday with a shoulder injury. Wehiva Aloy had four hits and a home run in the win over Michigan. Alabama trailed 10-0 on Sunday but scored the game's final 12 runs in a 12-10 win over Ohio State that kept the Crimson Tide unbeaten. Justin Lebron swatted two home runs and drove in six while Will Hodo hit the game-winning home run. Riley Quick's four scoreless innings on Saturday helped Alabama to its shutout over NC State. LSU took two of three from Nebraska-Omaha, with Chase Shores throwing six shutout innings in a 12-1 win in the series finale and Anthony Eyeanson throwing six shutout frames in Saturday's loss. Texas A&M lost Sunday's game to Cal Poly but won the series two games to one. Justin Lamkin's six-inning, scoreless start was one of the highlights of the Aggies' weekend. Vanderbilt's offense came alive all weekend as freshman Brodie Johnston made his collegiate debut and Cody Bowker threw five hitless innings on Sunday. Florida swept Dayton easily; Pierce Coppola threw five innings of two-run ball on Sunday. Mississippi State swept Missouri State as Stone Simmnos threw four scoreless innings Sunday and the Bulldogs started to find their home-run power. Auburn swept Wright State decisively; the Tigers' pitching has been consistent all week and they've now won six in a row. Kentucky's Carson Hansen, a Milwaukee transfer, had a breakout weekend in the WIldcats' road sweep at Belmont. South Carolina improved to 8-0 with a three-game sweep of Milwaukee as Jake McCoy and Matthew Becker continue to deal. Georgia blew out UIC in four games as five different players homered in the series finale. Texas swept Dartmouth in three close games thanks to a good weekend from its bullpen. Ole Miss swept Eastern Kentucky as Hunter Elliott had another great start. Missouri's bullpen struggled as the Tigers went 2-2 on a road trip to Florida. Kadden Drew's six shutout innings in Sunday's win over Southern highlighted the weekend.

Topics include: Tennessee's Liam Doyle has his second-straight dominant start, striking out 14 hitters over 5 1/3 innings, while Tanner Franklin goes the rest of the way and whiffs six in the Vols' 5-1 victory over Samford. LSU led start to finish in a 4-2 win over Nebraska-Omaha has Kade Anderson, Connor Benge, Mavrick Rizy and Casan Evans combine to strike out 14. Texas A&M's Ryan Prager threw five shutout innings and Gavin Grahovac homered in a 6-1 victory over Cal Poly. Arkansas fell 3-2 to Kansas State for its first loss. The Razorbacks got solo homers from the Aloy brothers but just three strikeouts from its pitching staff. Alabama got an impressive 9-2 win over Coastal Carolina in Jacksonville despite getting three (3!) hits, only one of which scored a run. Instead, the Crimson Tide took 12 walks and were plunked three times. Zane Adams threw 4 1/3 innings of one-run ball, fanning six in his start. Georgia sweeps a doubleheader with 9-3 and 15-1 victories over Illinois-Chicago. Leighton Finley throws five shutout innings in the second game to highlight the Bulldogs' mound work. Vanderbilt beat St. Mary's, 11-4, with Jonathan Vastine contributing a home run and RJ Austin, a pair of triples. But the biggest story was the season debuts of infielders Brodie Johnston and Mike Mancini, two likely starters for the Commodores. Bobby Boser hit his first homer as a Gator, and Florida routed Dayton, 13-1, thanks to a scoreless, four-inning start from Liam Peterson. Oklahoma edges Minnesota, 3-2, thanks to Kyson Witherspoon's seven-inning, one-run, 12-strikeout day. Ole Miss's Luke Hill had two more hits and swiped two bases while Hunter Elliott fanned 10 in six innings in an 8-0 win over Eastern Kentucky. Mississippi State had only four hits and trailed late but rallied with three eighth-inning runs keyed by Noah Sulivan's two-RBI double. Pico Kohn struck out 11 and allowed only one run in 6 1/3 innings. Kentucky went to Nashville and earned a 2-1 win at Belmont. Starter Nic McCay went six shutout innings and struck out seven. Auburn topped Wright State, 11-0. Prized recruit Bub Terrell hit his first collegiate home run and LSU transfer Sam Dutton fired 5 2/3, seven-strikeout innings in his start. South Carolina rallied from an early deficit to beat Milwaukee, 5-2. JUCO transfer Jase Woita homered and sophomore Tyler Pitzer threw four innings of eight-strikeout baseball in relief. Texas got just six hits against Dartmouth but managed a 4-3 win thanks to 11 strikeouts between Jared Spencer, Ruger Riojas and Thomas Burns. Missouri edged Florida A&M, 6-5. The Tigers' bullpen hurled four scoreless innings and Gehrig Goldbeck rapped out three hits.

He then talks with Northeast Dubois Head Coach Michael Cave as his girls squad won their sectional beating Tecumseh 50-42. He then talks with David Eha of Ball State Radio as the Cardinals beat Southern Miss 77-76. He moves back to HS Basketball with David Deaton who had two games a boys game where North Harrison won 46-43 over West Washington and a girls game where Corydon won 52-38 over Silver Creek. Kris Norton then joins the show as he talks the Northeast Dubois girls sectional title as well. Brian Sullivan of WNAS also talks with coach about the Corydon 14-point win over Silver Creek to win a sectional title on the girls side. Ed Holdaway with IU Indianapolis calls in as well to talk the Jaguars loss 91-73 to Wright State. Coach then talks with Brad Huber who had the call of Pike’s 69-61 win over Avon. Coach ends the busy hour with a talk with Landon Coons who called Park Heritage’s win 60-44 over Southmont to clinch their girls sectional title for WCDQ. There was a lot to like in the Cats 103-62 win over Wright State. Vinny and Aaron started off positive with basketball first. Koby Brea was driving to the hole. Otegah Oweh was spotting up for three. Scott Nagy was named the head men's basketball coach at Southern Illinois on March 28, 2024. He began his coaching career in the late 1980's with Illinois before becoming a head coach in 1995 at South Dakota State. After 11 years, he moved to Wright State, where he coached from 2016-2024. As a division one head coach, Nagy has led his teams to five NCAA Tournament berths. Today on the podcast we talk to coach Nagy about his journey of faith and coaching. He discusses his upbringing in a Christian home, his struggles with performance-based faith, and the recent decision to move to Southern Illinois. He emphasizes the importance of prioritizing character, discipline, and accountability over winning and encourages young coaches to pursue a relationship with Jesus and focus on the players. Billy Donlon goes way back with Brad Brownell -- all the way back to when Brownell was an assistant at UNC-Wilmington and Donlon played for the school. Donlon later served as an assistant for Brownell when Brownell was head coach at UNC-W, and then he followed him to Wright State when Brownell got that job. After Brownell left for Clemson, Donlon took over for him at Wright State and lasted six seasons. Donlon has been Brownell's associate head coach for the past two seasons. He joins The Dubcast to reflect on the Tigers' stirring Elite Eight run and all the things that went into it. Donlon also goes deep on his life story: His grandparents came to America from Ireland, living in New York after entering via Ellis Island. Donlon's father was an assistant coach for Providence and played a major role in recruiting the team that went to the Final Four in 1987. He had left a year earlier to join Bill Foster at Northwestern. Donlon remembers growing up in the Chicago area when the Bulls were becoming transcendent with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and others. He routinely visited the Bulls' practice facility, and he recalls one day when Pippen and Horace Grant invited him to lunch. "I was three hours late coming home, and the cops were at my house when I got home because my mom didn't know where I was," he said.
