The Athletic's Adam Hurrey, Charlie Eccleshare and Nick Miller convene for this week's Adjudication Panel. On the agenda: where human civilisation can really go next after a perfect hat-trick of own goals, some very slightly overaggressive Scottish goal commentary from La Liga, Joe Cole and the genesis of the phrase "farmers league" and the latest tribute to intercontinental Premier League brand ambassador Peter Drury. Meanwhile, the panel lament a mild outbreak of "Armbandmania" and bask in the glory of the once-in-an-era event that is Cameron Jerome, Connor Wickham and Saido Berahino all scoring on the same day.
Considering the 90 minutes on the pitch is normally the most important thing, it feels weird to be YET AGAIN discussing the mess in the Sunderland board. Alas, a game will be had on Saturday at the Stadium of Light and - like it or not - it's crucial if we are to have any chance of clawing anything out of this slowly souring season. The ever reliable Liam from the MK1 Podcast joined us once again to give us the lowdown on Liam Manning's first months in charge, Connor Wickham and what he makes of Sunderland calamitous fall from grace. An exciting transfer deadline day followed by a bore draw... Wednesday bring in two new faces - we discuss them and hear from Connor Wickham himself. But Saturday's goalless draw with Millwall raises few talking points. We discuss the fate of Sam Hutchinson after he's left out of the squad entirely. We also hear from Garry Monk. Owlpinions asks you to score Wednesday's winter transfer window out of ten. Guess what? Dom and James disagree. An impressive display by Palace saw them move into the FA Cup fifth round by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Selhurst Park thanks to goals from Connor Wickham and Andros Townsend.Wickham’s eighth-minute opener set the tone for a memorable afternoon for the Eagles as the striker netted his first goal in over two years, and that was followed by Andros Townsend converted from the penalty spot against the team he began his career at. Episode 13 of the Official Palace Podcast has landed and, as ever, is packed with everything you’ll need to hear from the past week at Crystal Palace. The podcast kicks-off with a chat with Jonathan Liew, the Independent’s Chief Sports Writer. He discusses life as one of the country’s top journalists and the difficulties and trials of the job. Next up is youngster Sam Woods, who made his debut for the first-team against Middlesbrough mid-way through last week in the League Cup. Woods has been a Palace fan all his life and explains just what it meant to pull on the famous red and blue of his boyhood club. Last week, manager Roy Hodgson and players Joel Ward and Connor Wickham planted eight trees at Palace’s Copers Cope Training Ground in honour of the eight Eagles players who served and died fighting for their country in the First World War. Wickham’s father was an Army Warrant Officer and so explains just what it meant to him to have been involved in a Remembrance Day activity such as this. Following a disappointing 3-1 loss away to Chelsea on Sunday, there was plenty of post-match reaction to what was a well-fought battle. It all features on this week’s pod as James Tomkins, Andros Townsend, Ray Lewington and Hodgson reflect upon the defeat.
Aaron Paul hosts and is joined by Diyar Kurnaz and Alex "Pongemeister" Penge. Chris also appears live from the Dulwich friendly to discuss Max Meyer, Connor Wickham, scoring goals and Falafel.Palace legends Peter Taylor and Shaun Derry are on the phones too with words of wisdom. Palace’s nemesis Yaya Toure came back to haunt the Eagles once again as he scored a brace to clinch the win for Manchester City at Selhurst Park. The midfielder was handed a first Premier League start by Pep Guardiola for this game and he responded by bagging a brace, including the winner seven minutes from time after Connor Wickham had pulled Palace level. Chris, Nick P, Lucy, Patrick and Tim review the game, talk about experiences where they've been in a position they shouldn't have been (following Sako playing left back) and play a quick round of 'Reverse Words'. The pod speaks to the YEP's Chief Football Writer, Phil Hay, about Cellino's as-yet-unapproved takeover. It isn't stopping Massimo, mind, as he's apparently brought in Connor Wickham and England keeper Jack Butland. The lads also reminisce about our finest ever custodian, Nigel Martyn. There's also talk of good old 'Arry, about hiring Elland Road, and the all-important role of percussion in football stadia.
