Welcome to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! We welcome San Jose Sharks' Director of Player Development Todd Marchant back to the show for our 50th episode! Todd was our very first guest on the new San Jose Hockey Now Podcast, and we celebrate our 50th episode by getting his thoughts on tons of Sharks prospects, from Quentin Musty to Alex Young. (16:00)We have some coaching search updates, including some rumored finalists to share. Also, did the San Jose Sharks ever reach out to David Carle or Joel Ward? (25:05)Are the Sharks going to be active in free agency this summer? Jeff Marek floated the possibility of Jake Guentzel as a FA target, and we give our thoughts on that possibility. Also, will Eetu Makinemi be back? (33:25)Our last topic is the retirement of Joe Pavelski. We share some of our thoughts about his tremendous career, and whether he has enough of a resume for the Hall of Fame. (42:50)And now it's time for Todd Marchant! (57:13)We decided to go through the San Jose Sharks system, from the 2023 Draft to the 2020 with Todd, discussing some well-known and lots of lesser-known prospects as well, focusing on mostly non-Barracuda prospects.First, the 2023 Draft!Quentin Musty (59:10)Kasper Halttunen (1:03:47)Brandon Svoboda (1:05:15)Luca Cagnoni (1:08:03)Axel Landén (1:10:28)Eric Pohlkamp (1:12:10)David Klee (1:14:30)Yegor Rimashevsky (1:16:15)2022:Filip Bystedt (1:19:45)Cam Lund (1:21:45)Mattias Hävelid (1:23:10)Michael Fisher (1:26:35)Mason Beaupit (1:28:45)Jake Furlong (1:30:20)Joey Muldowney, Eli Barnett and Reese Laubach (1:34:02)Who's left from the 2021 Draft, not playing with the Barracuda or the San Jose Sharks?Theo Jacobsson (1:37:19)Yevgeni Kashnikov (1:38:25)2020:Alex Young (1:39:25)Timofei Spitserov (1:40:25)Brandon Coe (1:41:30)We also discuss with Todd some prospects not drafted by the San Jose Sharks, starting with David Edstrom, acquired in the Tomas Hertl trade. Despite losing back-to-back games on the road swing, VGK banked a couple of points from their shootout loss last night to the Edmonton Oilers and the OT loss in Calgary the previous night. Bruce Cassidy said with a point in each game, he feels his team is .500 for the road trip. VGK grinded out two points in the 5-4 loss to the Oilers, which Mark Stone says matter, especially later in the season. Stone said he told his teammates that everyone needs to step up with the absence of two defensive starters - Shea Theodore and Alec Martinez - who didn't make this trip due to injury. Two Golden Knights scored their first goals of the season, Ben Hutton and Keegan Kolesar. VGK didnt score in the shootout. We talk about a third assistant joining the bench last night. Bruce Cassidy said he likes a three-man bench, with him and two assistants. But, he added Joel Ward to the bench in Edmonton. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by returning guests Jason McGovern, Patrick Tyrant, and Vass Koni from the Dr Tottenham Podcast as Tottenham Hotspur moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table by continuing their superb start to the season with a win at Crystal Palace. After a tight first half in which Odsonne Edouard went closest with a low strike that was pushed away by Guglielmo Vicario, the visitors took control after the break. They benefitted from a huge slice of fortune with the opener when Palace defender Joel Ward turned James Maddison's cross into his own net. But there was nothing lucky about their second as a lovely move involving Maddison and Brennan Johnson ended with Son Heung-min firing home from six yards for his eighth goal of the season. Jordan Ayew thumped in a stunning strike after taking the ball down on his chest in stoppage time for Palace, but there was to be no equaliser as Tottenham continued their fine form under new boss Ange Postecoglou. The victory means Tottenham move on to 26 points, five ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal, who both have a game in hand and can close the gap over the weekend. Joel Ward is an Emerging Technology Manager at Booz Allen Hamilton who has been working within Web Accessibility since around the time Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act was enacted on August 7, 1998 and the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines came out (WCAG version 1.0 was published on May 5, 1999). Ward spoke on a XR Access Symposium panel discussion about Empowering the Workforce through Accessible XR, and also brought a pair of XREAL Air glasses with live captioning to show off the power of AR as an assistive technology to other attendees. I had a chance to speak with Ward about the pending work that has to be done in order to specify XR accessibility experimentation within government contracts. Right now XR accessibility is in a bit of a Catch-22, because if something is not specified within a contract to be worked on, then it most likely won't happen. However, XR Accessibility features and functionality are still too nascent to be clearly specified and scoping out within these contracts. As I covered in the unpacking of public policy and XR accessibility write-up of my interview with XR Association's Liz Hyman, then the emerging nature of XR technologies means that they're not clearly specified within legislation like Section 508 or the American's with Disability Act to be enforced. We talk what needs to be done at the federal government contracting level so that his group at Booz Allen Hamilton can have the freedom and resources to develop more XR Accessibility features that feeds into the type of Darwinian experimentation that Neil Trevett says is a crucial phase of the standards development process. VGK announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches. Dominique Ducharme, the former Montreal Canadiens head coach joins Bruce Cassidy's staff as does Joel Ward, who was an assistant with the AHL Silver Knights. Ducharme was fired a season removed from guiding the Habs to the Stanley Cup Final, where his team lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was fired in February 2022 after his team had several key injuries, COVID issues, and a new front office. It is not certain what the duties will be for Ducharme and Ward, but VGK now has three current or former NHL head coaches begin the bench (Ducharme, Stevens and Cassidy.) Ward has been with Henderson since the franchise moved to Las Vegas in 2020. They replace Ryan Craig, who was promoted to new head coach of AHL Henderson and Mishka Donskov, who left the organization for undetermined reasons. We also talk about the VGK team members on the ESPY's Red Carpet - Nic Hague, Adin Hill and Jonathan Marchessault. We talked about Bruce Cassidy's radio on WEEI in Boston.
