Inside Elland Road Podcast | Rodon Scores Goals, West Ham Review & Brighton Previewwith Graham Smyth & Chris O'ConnorThis week on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth and Chris O'Connor look back at a strong performance and result against West Ham at Elland Road, where Joe Rodon grabbed the headlines by finding the net — again. The lads also discuss Brenden Aaronson's standout display, as he picked up Man of the Match honours, and look ahead to a challenging trip to face Brighton, where Leeds will need to stay sharp against one of the league's more unpredictable sides.
Jack Elderton and Darcy Cox break down West Ham's 2-1 loss to Leeds United in the Premier League. Nuno Espírito Santo took a risk at Elland Road by picking a similar line up to that from the previous fixture, a 0-2 loss to Brentford, which ended up backfiring as the Hammers' put in yet another hugely concerning performance that saw Daniel Farke's team ease past a fragile West Ham. The introduction of Freddie Potts, Mateus Fernandes, Soungoutou Magassa and Kyle Walker-Peters might have given West Ham a lift in the second half, but first half goals from Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon meant Fernandes' 90th minute header was too late to salvage any points in what is fast becoming a massive fight for survival at the bottom of the Premier League table. Jack and Darcy dissect the game, discussing the surprising team selection from Nuno, including the repeated use of inverted full-backs in Oliver Scarles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as well as the inclusion of Tomáš Souček and Andy Irving in the middle of the park at the expense of Magassa, Fernandes and Potts. They also break down the tactical ideas from both sides, the importance of physicality in the Premier League and West Ham's struggles to compete, how and why the side improved in the second half and if it's possible to find any positives in the underlying data to suggest the London Stadium might not be hosting Championship football next season. Inside Elland Road Podcast | Burnley Setback, West Ham Preview & Squad Questionswith Graham Smyth & Chris O'ConnorIn this week's Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth and Chris O'Connor reflect on a disappointing 2–0 defeat away at Burnley, where Leeds United struggled to find cutting edge. With another big fixture on the horizon, the duo preview Friday night's clash against West Ham at Elland Road, and ask whether it's time to freshen things up — or double down — as questions over the squad's depth and selection start to mount.
Leeds United face West Ham under the lights at Elland Road in a big game at the wrong end of the Premier League. Jonny Buchan, Adam Pope and Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix preview the game and discuss their FPL selections.
It's another battle at the bottom on Clash of the Correspondents as James is joined by Leeds United fan Ed Salinger and West Ham United fan Chris Stone to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of the Friday night game at Elland Road. For Leeds, there have been positives and negatives so far and they are currently above Friday night's opponents, but can they score enough to stay above those below them? For West Ham, Monday's horror show against Brentford has caused real concern that they themselves face a genuine fight to stay up. There's a deep dive into Nuno Espirito Santo's start and the failings in the Brentford loss. Plus all the important FPL discussion features Joe Rodon, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen. Another competitive performance from Leeds United sees them undeservedly go down 2-1 to Spurs at Elland Road. With the season now interrupted by a second international break are the Whites on track for Premier League survival after seven games according to Jonny Buchan, Adam Pope & Kaiser Chiefs' bassist Simon Rix?
Jack is joined by Billie T to discuss Tottenham's 2-1 win over Leeds United, a huge result before the international break that ends Leeds' long unbeaten run at Elland Road. The lads talk about Spurs' growing solidity under Thomas Frank, the remarkable stat of being the only Premier League team not to concede in the final 15 minutes of games, and whether Frank's pragmatic, low-xG style is sustainable. There's praise for Mathys Tel after his goal, Xavi Simons' influence through the middle, and Udogie's return to form. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Very contrasting emotional states here at FPL Family tonight! Lee has to watch Liverpool lose their third game in a week, while Sam watches Spurs grab three very good points at Elland Road. Palace lost their unbeaten run at the Hill-Dickinson, United cruise past Sunderland and Arsenal get the job done at home to West Ham, but lose their captain to a knee injury. And in FPL, Lee's had a week to forget, while Sam's week sees her climb the ranks with a massive green arrow. Saturday saw Cherries rescue a point - their very first at Elland Road - in a game where Leeds United possibly were reacquainted with the harsh realities of the Premier League. The home side showed more heart, and more than shaded it on stats, but Bournemouth's ability to rescue points at the death might have been underestimated after Eli Kroupi struck late in stoppage time - thus ensuring that Iraola, who seems to rip up the script season on season, gained a point at a place where Bournemouth previously have never come away with anything. Saturday's clash at Elland Road between Leeds and Bournemouth promises fireworks, with both clubs looking for revenge for different reasons. The Cherries are still smarting from last gasp 4-3 defeat last time we were in West Yorkshire, but for Leeds, the return of the "snake" Tyler Adams - means that there could be an absorbing midfield battle on the cards.
