Suj and James discuss the games and fallout from a dramatic Gameweek 14 so far as Manchester City won 5-4 away, Villa (found improvement) to win 4-3 at Brighton, Arsenal won again but it was a bad night for Chelsea at Elland Road and Liverpool were again underwhelming as they drew with Sunferland. The City victory saw Erling Haaland walk away with three attacking returns but the headlines for Fantasy owners were more about the returns for Phil Foden who now has more FPL points in his past two than the previous 12 weeks. Should non owners steam in? Before buying the prospect of further rotation for assets should be considered in a week where predictably many players were given a rest, but perhaps it was more than just a rest for Mo Salah as he was benched again. The good news is the midweek rotation can be turned into an advantage in many scenarios in a week where everyone should be making at least one transfer ahead of receiving five free transfers in GW16. All the games covered, James has an enabling transfer on mind and even managed to come away from St James's Park with a dramatic late draw. Full time reaction to yet another defeat for Daniel Farke's Leeds side, at home to Aston Villa inside a rain-drenched Elland Road.
Aston Villa went to Elland Road expecting a fight, and that is exactly what they got. Leeds were physical and up for it, and the game swung on two long VAR checks that are worth discussion. Unai Emery made the decisive halftime changes, flipping the pace and shape of the attack with Donyell Marlen and Ian Maatsen. Rogers took over from there - a sharp finish for the first, and a cultured free kick for the second, becoming the first Villa player to score twice at Elland Road since Gareth Southgate in 2000.It was not pretty. It was not controlled. It was not Emery-ball in its purest form. But it was the kind of away win that top-four teams collect without apology. Villa stood up to the size, the chaos, the set pieces, and the atmosphere - and came out with exactly what matters: three points and a foothold in the Champions League chase. In this new-look post match episode, 'The MOMS Post-mortem' we break down the VAR incidents, the tactical switch that changed the game, Watkins' substitution, Rogers' growing influence, and Emery's quietly confident mood as Villa climb back into the top four.Spotify Links to Opera TracksMy Old Man Said OperaHolte Enders in the Sky - Traditional Verse AriaAlso available on all music streaming platforms.GET AD-FREE SHOWS and JOIN MATCH CLUBGet ad-free shows and extra shows, and join My Old Man Said's 24/7 Villa community, Match Club. For more details and to become a member, click here: Become a MOMS MemberJoin the show's listener facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid Chris Budd - @BUDD_musicPhillip Shaw - @prsgameMy Old Man Said - https://www.myoldmansaid.comThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said. Inside Elland Road Podcast | Rodon Scores Goals, West Ham Review & Brighton Previewwith Graham Smyth & Chris O'ConnorThis week on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth and Chris O'Connor look back at a strong performance and result against West Ham at Elland Road, where Joe Rodon grabbed the headlines by finding the net — again. The lads also discuss Brenden Aaronson's standout display, as he picked up Man of the Match honours, and look ahead to a challenging trip to face Brighton, where Leeds will need to stay sharp against one of the league's more unpredictable sides.
Jack Elderton and Darcy Cox break down West Ham's 2-1 loss to Leeds United in the Premier League. Nuno Espírito Santo took a risk at Elland Road by picking a similar line up to that from the previous fixture, a 0-2 loss to Brentford, which ended up backfiring as the Hammers' put in yet another hugely concerning performance that saw Daniel Farke's team ease past a fragile West Ham. The introduction of Freddie Potts, Mateus Fernandes, Soungoutou Magassa and Kyle Walker-Peters might have given West Ham a lift in the second half, but first half goals from Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon meant Fernandes' 90th minute header was too late to salvage any points in what is fast becoming a massive fight for survival at the bottom of the Premier League table. Jack and Darcy dissect the game, discussing the surprising team selection from Nuno, including the repeated use of inverted full-backs in Oliver Scarles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as well as the inclusion of Tomáš Souček and Andy Irving in the middle of the park at the expense of Magassa, Fernandes and Potts. They also break down the tactical ideas from both sides, the importance of physicality in the Premier League and West Ham's struggles to compete, how and why the side improved in the second half and if it's possible to find any positives in the underlying data to suggest the London Stadium might not be hosting Championship football next season.
