We catch up on the racing and news from the weekend. Louise Saggers won the free race entry to IRONMAN Cairns. We found out how her day went. We share Lionel Sander's YouTube video which centres on his recent experiences with injuries, particularly stress fractures. Lionel tells us what he's now learned about relative energy deficiency in athletes and the impact on hormonal health. Relative energy deficiency can significantly impact athletic performance and stress fractures are often linked to energy deficiencies. Nutrition plays a crucial role in recovery and overall health and understanding the importance of the body's energy needs is vital for performance. Christine Byrne has a Masters in Public Health Nutrition and is a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist. We talk to her about her work as an ‘Anti Diet Dietitian' and her article ‘Eating Healthy Might be Hurting Your Performance'. The conversation explores the complexities of eating disorders, particularly in the context of amateur sports and athletic performance. It highlights the spectrum of eating disorders, the rise of orthorexia and the importance of understanding the relationship between nutrition and performance. The discussion emphasizes that athletes often face unique challenges regarding caloric intake and the misconception of 'clean eating' which may hinder their performance. Send us a textWhat happens when the external stability you've been chasing for a decade suddenly collapses? In this raw and illuminating conversation with Allison May Byrne, we explore the profound awakening that can emerge from life's most disorienting moments.Allison shares her journey from domestic violence survivor to law professional to spiritual guide, revealing how her shocking termination the day after taking the bar exam shattered her illusion of external security. "We cannot rely on the external to be our foundation," she realizes. "We're going to be our own foundation." This wisdom couldn't be more timely as we collectively navigate unprecedented uncertainty in our world.Together, we unpack how humanity seems caught in an adolescent phase, pushing against structures that have organized society but haven't served everyone equally. We explore why women are leading change not through violence and control, but through withdrawal and reclaiming sovereignty – a fundamentally different approach to wielding power that offers hope for peaceful transformation. The conversation takes fascinating turns as we discuss how our spiritual awakening isn't about bypassing difficulties but developing courage to stay engaged when it matters most. Allison shares insights on reconnecting with intuitive gifts, describing how our psychic abilities form a unique "dialect" of spiritual language personal to each of us.Whether you're facing your own personal collapse or trying to make sense of our collective challenges, this episode offers the medicine you need. As Allison reminds us, "I don't believe there is a job too small for the soul level revolution." By tapping into our gifts and following our intuition, we automatically become instruments for greater purpose – especially in the messy middle, where the real magic happens.Your soul didn't come here to play safe. It came to remember its power and build what comes next. Ready to step into that journey?

Triggered by Buffett's recent retirement, the two reflect on how their views have evolved since first reading the book in their 20s. They unpack Buffett's complex personal life, his early financial maneuvers, near-catastrophic risks, and lasting investment philosophies. Key discussions include Buffett's detached family dynamics, calculated leverage, deep value tactics, and overlooked geopolitical caution. Sean Byrne, acclaimed director of The Devil's Candy and The Loved Ones, returns with Dangerous Animals — a nerve-shredding thriller that blends shark horror with serial killer dread. In this episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers dives deep with Byrne to discuss the psychological undercurrents of the film, the true nature of predators, and why Dangerous Animals flips the script on classic shark horror. Starring Jai Courtney, Hassie Harrison, and Josh Heuston, Dangerous Animals centers on Zephyr, a rebellious surfer abducted by a shark-obsessed killer who's not feeding the sharks by accident. It's a chilling reminder that sometimes the most dangerous creatures walk on two legs. We talk about crafting dread on the open water, Byrne's inspirations, and why this is not your average creature feature. Stop Making Sense is a concert film directed by Jonathan Demme, the man who would later deliver one of the strongest films of the 1990s in Silence of the Lambs. It features new-wave band Talking Heads at the height of their powers during a four-night residency in Los Angeles in 1983.Bandleader David Byrne, equal parts Bill Nye, Pentecostal firebrand, and George Clinton, is the star of the show...both as lead vocalist and primary creative vision behind the stage production...indeed Byrne infects a rock show with performance art, iconic choreography, and visual flair Ala Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground. What starts as a one-man show starring Byrne, quickly grows to envelope all of the core members of Talking Heads --and within a few more numbers the group has expanded to an all-star cast of multiethnic, jet-fuel driven musicians. The film has received a recent 4K release from acclaimed production company A24.

Today I'm talking with Jacqui Byrne, the founder of FlexSchool, a pioneering educational model designed specifically for 2e students. Jacqui is an award-winning educational leader, a sought-after speaker, and a passionate advocate for neurodiverse learners. She's also a parent of 2e kids herself, and she built FlexSchool not just as an educator, but as a mom determined to find a better way for her own children, who were struggling at school. This is Jacqui's second time on the show—the last time was six years ago (and I encourage you to listen to that episode too). I wanted to bring Jacqui back to talk about what she's learned and observed in supporting the learning and growth of twice-exceptional kids over the years. We get into all kinds of topics in this conversation, including the story behind FlexSchool's creation and the philosophy that drives it, the power of talent-based learning, and how teachers and schools can become places of trust, safety, and joy for 2e kids who have often felt like misfits. Jacqui also shares insights into how behavioral issues in 2e students are often identity crises, and what it means to support their growth across the full arc of their lives.   About Jaqui Byrne Jacqui Byrne has a knack for seeing the brilliance others miss. As the visionary behind FlexSchool, she built a place where gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) students could thrive—quirks, challenges, and all. She didn't set out to start a school; she set out to solve a problem. Too many gifted, complex learners were being overlooked, underestimated, or misunderstood, and that wasn't something she was willing to accept.Jacqui never asks, “Why can't they do this?” Instead, she asks, “What haven't we figured out yet?” An award-winning educational leader, sought-after speaker, and passionate advocate, Jacqui presents at conferences, school districts, and education associations across the U.S. and internationally. She is the 2025 winner of the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children's prestigious Developing Minds Award. She serves on the advisory board for the Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity in Education and holds a degree from Yale University. She is the parent of twice-exceptional kids and knows firsthand what it feels like to watch a child struggle in either a gifted program or special education when they need both. That's why she built FlexSchool—not just as an educator, but as a mom who refused to give up.   You'll learn: How neurodivergent language is gaining acceptance and shifting education toward more inclusive, affirming mindsets How Flex School's talent-based model meets students where they are, sparking agency, creativity, and joy What Jacqui sees as key to teaching 2e students—modeling humility, building trust, and embracing their humor and uniqueness Why identity crises and masking are common in 2e kids and often drive anxiety and behavior challenges Why gifted kids may struggle with executive function or study skills despite high intellect—and how to better support them  Resources: Flex School Inside the Flex School with Founder Jacqui Byrne (Tilt Parenting Podcast) 2e101 website New Jersey Association of Gifted Children (NJAGC) Dr. Ross Greene / Lives in the Balance Learn more about your ad choices. At Charlie Byrne's, you can explore their labyrinthine maze of over 100,000 books: new, second-hand, bargain, and antiquarian.  Vinny takes us behind the scenes of this beloved institution, revealing how its organic growth mirrors the evolution of Irish literary culture itself. "Books have a continuous life," he explains, describing the shop's mission to connect forgotten volumes with new readers who might not yet know they're searching for these exact stories.  What makes Charlie Byrne's special transcends mere commerce; it's about creating community in an increasingly isolated world. Our conversation expands beyond Charlie Byrne's to explore Ireland's extraordinary literary ecosystem, particularly how literary journals provide emerging writers their first publishing opportunities. This infrastructure has helped sustain Ireland's remarkable literary tradition throughout decades of cultural and economic change.  Discover why independent bookshops matter now more than ever as spaces of serendipitous discovery that algorithms can never replicate. If you're passionate about books, literary culture, or simply the power of community spaces to enrich our lives, this episode offers a heartwarming glimpse into a world where stories and people find each other in ways both unexpected and profound.  Ready to experience the magic of Charlie Byrne's? The past year has seen lots of discussion of the ‘human' nature of AI. Programs like ChatGPT were writing poetry, engaging in debates, and roasting users with witty retorts. Educators have been facing more serious concerns as they navigate a world in which students no longer need to learn to do their own research, writing, or thinking. But the militarization of AI makes these other activities seem like Donkey Kong. Investigative journalist Peter Byrne joins Steve to talk about the treacherous relationship between technology, capitalism, and militarization. They discuss how companies like Palantir, funded by figures such as Peter Thiel, have leveraged vast amounts of capital—often government-funded—to develop this militarized AI. In other words, venture capitalists and tech startups are shaping modern warfare.Peter draws historical parallels, explaining that the automation of warfare is not a new phenomenon but has evolved significantly since the days of analog computers in World War II. It only increases its destructive capabilities by unthinkable magnitudes. We would do well to remember that machine learning models are incapable of achieving true intelligence. They reflect the ideology and interests of those who are responsible for them.Peter Byrne is an award-winning investigative science reporter who has long uncovered corruption at the nexus of science and industry. Now, in partnership with Project Censored, Byrne has launched Military AI Watch, a groundbreaking ten-part series that will run monthly on Project Censored's website.https://www.projectcensored.org/military-ai-watch/

Did we inherit our drinking habit and have our years of over doing it been passed onto our own kids?In short, is Alcoholism genetic? It's a question that we get asked by worried ex-drinkers and many struggling with their sobriety about 3 times a week!Just like many of the questions we get asked - we don't feel as if we have the knowledge or experience to offer any kind of accurate answer...which is why we invited Arabella Byrne onto the podcast.Arabella is the co-author (alongside her mother Julia Hamilton) of 'In The Blood' - the UK's first mother/daughter recovery memoir. She is also a proud ambassador for the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA).This incredible book tracks the stories of alcoholism (that of Arabella's and of her mother Julia's). Arabella gave up booze just 9 months after her mother and they would go onto attend AA meetings together. There are heartbreaking similarities in both of their stories and the book is so beautifully written that it brought me to tears more than once.Unlike many other books that I have read on the subject, this is not quit-lit, this is storytelling at its most raw and honest. An exploration into the relationship between mothers and daughters and in between alcoholic parents and their children.I dare you to read it, or listen to Arabella discuss this topic, without being deeply moved. It is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring. SHOW NOTESYou can find Arabella through her Instagram which is @drarabella or at her X account which is @drarabellabyrne.If you would like to purchase her book 'In the Blood' which she co-wrote with her mother Julia Hamilton - this can be done here:https://www.amazon.com.au/Blood-stirring-mother-daughter-alcoholism-generations-ebook/dp/B0D13HCPKFFind out more about the amazing work that the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA) do at https://nacoa.org/Sign up to our 30 Day Sober Tour Guide at www.soberawkward.comVic's book is out! A fair amount of his career was in America, but in his later years, his financial straits forced him and his wife Dorothea to return to Ireland.   The pacing and prose of today's story really called to me. The gentle stream of consciousness pacing of a man's mind when his wife has died, and his contemplations really seemed appropriate for this time of year.   And now, The Wake, by Donn Byrne   Follow this link to become a monthly supporter:       Follow this link to subscribe to our YouTube Channel:       Follow this link to subscribe to the Arsène Lupin Podcast:     Follow this link to follow us on Instagram:     Follow this link to follow us on Facebook:

A recently uncovered interview with John Byrne circa 1976 is the focus of today's episode. We go inside the thoughts and opinions of a young talent just starting to take off and contrast it with interviews years later as he is changing comics for the next decade.
