A (relatively) in-depth analysis of Exit North, the musical collaboration between Steve Jansen, Thomas Feiner, Ulf Jansson and Charlie Storm in under thirty minutes.Former Japan-drummer Jansen established a co-writing connection with singer Thomas Feiner in 2007 for his first solo album 'Slope'. Feiner co-wrote the track 'Sow The Salt.'For Jansen's second album 'Tender Extinction', Feiner co-wrote the track 'Captured.' They felt they had similar musical incentives and in 2014, Jansen proposed a more permanent partnership. Feiner had been co-composing some sketches and ideas with pianist Ulf Jansson, so this was the starting point for new material and they became a three-piece. Feiner had earlier forged a friendship with multi-instrumentalist/engineer/producer Charlie Storm, who also knew Ulf Jansson, who had worked as a session pianist on some acts Storm had produced. From start to completion, the album was a four-year journey, recorded in Storm's studio in Gothenburg. In this episode I am in discussion with Dr. Andrew Webber.Mathew Woodallhttps://www.exitnorthmusic.comhttps://buymeacoffee.com/lownoiseWhy buy me a coffee?Low Noise is proudly ad-free. For the Glory KC is back with the 135th episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City came back down to earth this week with a tough loss against Los Angeles Football Club on the road. Things looked bright early when Dejan Joveljic scored his 10th goal of the season off a Manu Garcia assist. But the lead didn't even last until halftime.Calamitous set piece defending led to a 1-1 halftime score and the capper on a bad game for Memo Rodriguez led to the game winning penalty kick for Denis Bouanga.Speaking of Bouanga, despite him having a goal and an assist, Jansen Miller seemed to be in his head. Maybe Bouanga gets the last laugh, but all the victimizing Denis did came at the expense of others, not Miller. Jansen more than held his own against one of the elite players in Major League Soccer. It's wild to say Miller (and frankly Pulskamp again) had good games when three goals went in. But they really did. And the joy Miller clearly gets from hounding attackers was all over his face.Sheena and I also discussed lots of other topics including: the return of Jake Davis from injury, the return of Stephen Afrifa from the bench, Khiry Shelton's ever-changing hair color, a bloody Shapi Suleymanov, who the heck was the captain after Daniel Salloi subbed off and many other topics from the SKC/LAFC game. Before we got to the winning KC team, we also had to talk about the big news that Benny Feilhaber has landed a job with the Oakland Roots of the USL Championship. It's a short-term deal. Is it so he can make sure he's available for the Sporting KC job?The KC Current went out and crushed it again, this time winning on the road against the newly crowned CONCACAF W Champions, NJ/NY Gotham. Michelle Cooper and Temwa Chawinga scored early, but it was the VAR that may have come to their rescue late. The officials seemed to get most things right when overturning Gotham goals, but that Esther goal is a little dicey to change. We also discussed a really good interview Forbes did with Chris and Angie Long along with the new 2,000 seat stadium the KC Current are building at their Riverside complex. In the Digital Crawl, we touch on a few more topics, including:More SKC II woesUSWNT/USMNT resultsThe Chicago Fire privately funding a new stadiumHere is a rundown of topics (and approximate start times):Sporting KC come back to Earth in LA - 7:28Benny gets a job and more in the SKC roundup - 41:25KC Current get a big road win (again) - 49:25Another KC women's soccer stadium and more in the Current roundup - 55:39Digital Crawl - 1:09:46Upcoming GamesUSMNT vs. Switzerland - Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00PM CDTKC Current vs Racing Louisville, Saturday, June 14th at 6:30PMSporting KC vs. FC Dallas, Saturday, June 14th at 7:30PMSKC II have 3 weeks offAs a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled dot com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. My guest Ingrid is part of the dynamic duo from The Declutter Hub podcast and she shares how thinking through the emotions and potential pitfalls can be super helpful to prepare you well for the task of the doing when it comes to decluttering. For instance, if you have a quantity problem, it requires more than just decluttering a cupboard... you actually need to do some thinking about why you have a clutter problem, what causes the problem, what feeds the problem, how to tackle the clutter itself, what do you need in order to have success... and once you've done the thinking... then you can be strategic in the doing.Follow The Declutter HubWebsitePodcastYouTubeJoin our community Leave a Google ReviewFollow me on InstagramFollow me on FacebookJoin my Facebook groupLeave a review on Apple PodcastThank you to my sound engineer, Jarred from Four4ty Studio. On the former Yugoslavia and the ethnography of anti-nationalists. [For the full episode, subscribe: patreon.com/bungacast] [Reading Club LIVE: Sat 14 June, 9am LA, 12am NY, 5pm London, 6pm Berlin] In the third installment of this block on inter/nationalism in the 21st century, we take a look at the other side of nationalism, through scholar Stefaan Jansen's “Anti-nationalism: Post-Yugoslav Resistance and Narratives of Self and Society”. Who are the Somewheres and Anywheres in post-Yugoslavia? How does Jansen understand the marginalisation of anti-nationalism in Serbia and Croatia? Is understanding nationalism and anti-nationalism as discursive practices a useful lens for understanding post-Yugoslav identities? Why is the act of forgetting or misremembering significant in the context of post-Yugoslav anti-nationalist narratives? How did the contrast between pre-war Yugoslavia and post-war realities shape anti-nationalist identities? Must individuality be anti-nationalist?
