Between high school, college and the NFL, he played with two future Pro Football Hall of Famers and one Heisman Trophy winner. Of course Kenny Bell had no idea when he played for Greenwich High School that his quarterback Steve Young would go on to be a 3-time Super Bowl Champion and wear a gold jacket. However, they did win a LOT of games and Kenny played a big role in that success. He was inducted into his high school's Hall of Fame in 2015. Kenny also didn't know when he chose Boston College that his quarterback, Doug Flutie, would be a Heisman Trophy winner and have incredible success in both the Canadian Football League as well as the NFL. Kenny just kept playing, only missing one of his 48 games with the Eagles and honing his skills as a return specialist. He also had no idea when he made the Broncos roster as an undrafted free agent in 1986, that his quarterback John Elway would be a 2-time Super Bowl champion and have his bust in Canton. Kenny just kept doing what he did well on special teams. Coaches adored him and teammates loved his style. He went to three Super Bowls during his tenure in orange and blue. Unfortunately, he never saw a win in the big game before retiring from the game. After football Kenny dabbled in the restaurant business, then got into management in health care and later hospitality. Today, he can be found managing employees at the Denver Convention Center.
In hour 1 of Terry Wickstrom Outdoors, Terry is joined by John Kirk, Kirk Bien, Al Noraker and Daliah Singer. Their discussions include the upcoming ISE at the Denver Convention Center, fly fishing and ice fishing.
It has been almost three years since the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) held its last in-person conference in Washington, DC. Since that time, both the New Orleans (2020) and Cleveland (2021) Conferences were replace with an online event. Needless to say, many members are ready, albeit still with some concerns, to meet their colleagues in person once again. From July 16th through the 19th, nearly 900 members will gather in Denver, Colorado to enjoy the educational and social gathering of law librarians. Another 60+ vendor organizations will also be at the Denver Convention Center under the gaze of the iconic Blue Bear. We asked current AALL President, Diane Rodriguez, along with AALL Vice-President, Beth Adelman, to take time out of their busy preparation schedules to come in and talk with us about what members and vendors should expect from the conference. Those of us who attend AALL conferences understand that it is truly a technology conference where vendors go to show their enhancements to existing products or to launch new products to the tech savvy end-users of many of their products. Even Bob Ambrogi has put this as one of the top legal tech conferences in the legal industry. Rodriguez and Adelman have spent the last year preparing AALL for a post-pandemic presence in the legal industry and focused not only on returning to in-person events, but also creating a new Strategic Plan for the Association headed by Beth Adelman. In addition, the organization continued its fight for access to justice and legal information. Diane Rodriguez penned an article for the ABA Human Rights Magazine earlier this year titled "Putting the Spotlight on Civics Education: How Law Librarians Are Helping to Bridge the Access to Justice Gap." Of course conferences aren't all educational programming and vendor interactions. We all are working in some baseball, concerts, books stores, and art exhibits while we are there as well. Wow, just WOW! That was our initial reaction as we approached the Denver Convention Center on Friday for our first taste of the 2nd annual Denver Comic Con. As we neared the entrance I overheard a door person explaining that this was the beginning of the line and that the end of the line wrapped around block. The most shocking thing was he stated it would be shorter to go the opposite direction to get to the end of the line. It was at that moment I knew we were in for an AMAZING show.
Chris Lopez, communications director for the 2008 Denver Host Committee, took time out of a VERY busy day today to preview what's ahead in Denver once the Democratic National Convention gets under way this weekend. He seemed remarkably serene, and he was optimistic that the convention's protests will be peaceful and full of the good energy of democracy. Me too!UPDATE: I forgot to include the following links mentioned by Chris in the podcast: The Presidential Experience Click here for information on Convention events at the Denver Convention Center in the mornings.
