In 1974, Wichita, Kansas was shaken by a series of brutal attacks inside family homes. Men, women, and children were bound, tortured, and killed by a predator who called himself BTK. For 17 years, he terrorized the community, claiming at least 10 victims and taunting police with disturbing letters that detailed his crimes. Then in 1991, the killings abruptly stopped, leaving law enforcement and the public to wonder if the killer had vanished forever. For more than a decade, there was silence. Then in 2004, BTK resurfaced with new messages, reigniting fear in Wichita. But that renewed need for attention would ultimately be his downfall, and by the following year, detectives had identified the killer as Dennis Rader, a father of two, a Scout leader, and a trusted member of his church council. Rader was the last person anyone suspected of being a sexual sadist serial killer, but once investigators began putting all the puzzle pieces together, it became clear that Rader's family-man persona was just a mask covering the monster beneath. What resulted was a 126 day 1,500 mile journey across four states by a band of Nez Perce who were attempting to escape forced relocation. They were relentlessly and violently pursued by the U.S. Army, eluding and fighting them for months through mountain ranges and within Yellowstone National Park before ultimately being forced into a corner just 40 miles from Canada - and freedom. On January 26, 2011, 27-year-old Ellen Greenberg left work early when a snowstorm hit Philadelphia. She stopped for gas on her way home, then spent the afternoon grading papers in the apartment she shared with her fiancé, Sam. That evening, Sam called 911 to report that he had found Ellen in the kitchen with a knife in her chest. She had been stabbed twenty times, including multiple wounds to the back of her head and neck. At first, the Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide. But weeks later, the ruling was changed to suicide, shocking many. Ellen's parents have spent more than a decade fighting that decision, convinced their daughter didn't take her own life, and that the truth about what happened to her is still being covered up.
