The episode "Let Babylon Burn" presents a compelling critique of the rise of AI in the music industry, particularly within the reggae genre that has long been a bastion of human storytelling and cultural expression. Henry K and Sia engage listeners by illustrating the contrast between the soulful, lived experiences of reggae artists and the algorithmically generated music. The episode unpacks the implications of such technology as Henry reflects on the historical journey of reggae, celebrating its origins while lamenting the potential loss of its authenticity in the face of algorithmic creations. Sia contributes her insights on the cultural significance of reggae and its representation of Jamaican identity. Ultimately, the hosts call for a renewed commitment to support real artists who carry the weight of their experiences in their music, emphasizing that while technology can simulate sound, it cannot convey the essence of the human condition.Produced by Henry K in association with Voice Boxx Studios Kingston, JamaicaROOTSLAND NATION Reggae Music, Podcast & MerchandiseLegends of Reggae | FacebookPetition to re-open the Peter Tosh murder case https://chng.it/29TPQ9FWZs

Sports, faith & fun with KJ McCarty takes center stage in this dynamic episode of The SLIDE Podcast. Host Coach Aaron is joined by co-host Big E (Easton Close) as they sit down with KJ, a standout multi-sport athlete from Alabama. Known for his mic'd-up Instagram reels and unshakable focus, KJ opens up about balancing football, baseball, and basketball—all while building a podcast with his dad focused on youth sports, faith, and family. Faith, Fun, and the Mic'd-Up Journey KJ's journey in youth sports is anything but typical. From highlight-reel grand slams to calling plays as a quarterback, he shares how each sport teaches him something new. However, it's his faith that keeps him grounded. “You’re playing the game not just to win,” he says, “but to have fun and live out your purpose.” That purpose shines through in his podcast, the KJ and Jay Podcast, where he and his father explore youth athletics through the lens of family and faith. Lessons in Leadership and Being Coachable Throughout the episode, KJ emphasizes the value of being coachable and lifting others up. He discusses how challenging it can be to let go of perfectionism and how his dad helps remind him that failure is a natural part of growth. When asked what makes a good teammate, his answer is simple but powerful: supporting others even when you're not at your best. From double-selly celebrations to battling through injury, KJ keeps it real and relatable. Balancing Sports, Media, and Real Life Beyond the field and court, KJ talks about downtime in Alabama—fishing, visiting water parks, and recovering from a UCL strain. He also shares his big goals for the future, with hopes of playing football professionally while keeping baseball as a backup. His walkout song? “Unstoppable” by Sia—an anthem that fits the energy and message of this episode perfectly. Sia's story is a powerful exploration of what it means to grow up under the gaze of family, community, and self. From childhood, Sia learned to navigate a world where being watched—and judged—was constant, shaping her choices and sense of self. She reveals how she turned the pressure of always being observed into a tool for self-reflection, imagining her life as a story she could edit, rewrite, and ultimately own.In this episode, Sia opens up about the challenges of being the only queer person of color in certain spaces, the weight of family gossip, and the struggle to blend in while staying true to herself. She shares how journaling, skating, and reframing her experiences helped her find light in dark places, and why she believes in extracting meaning and growth from every hardship. If you've ever felt the sting of judgment, struggled to fit in, or wondered how to transform shame into strength, Sia's journey will inspire you to look at your own story with fresh eyes—and maybe even write a new chapter.Earth Monster is the storytelling podcast that uncovers the real stories and biggest ideas that shape our lives. In 2023, Megan – a sassy robot, designed to be your daughter's best friend – danced and dismembered her way to internet infamy. The title character of director Gerard Johnstone and writer Akela Cooper's Blumhouse horror-comedy was an evil doll in the tradition of Chucky from Child's Play, but at the same time, distinct in her modernity. As I asked in my review for Empire Magazine at the time: “Has Chucky ever interrupted a stabbing spree to sing Sia's pop smash ‘Titanium'? Has Billy the Puppet ever broken into a TikTok-style dance before another Saw franchise victim met their violent demise?” The answer was no, and a moment in meme culture was born. There were SNL skits about Megan, starring Aubrey Plaza. The film took $181m at the box office against a paltry $12m budget. It seemed inevitable a sequel would follow – and two years later, that sequel is here.Written by Gerard, my guest today, from a story he conceived with Cooper, the film is bigger in every possible regard. It lays on the explosions and spectacle thicker and faster than before, throwing car chases and robot-on-robot fist fights into the mix this time around. It's higher in stakes: the fate of the world is on the line here, as a new rogue A.I threat, Amelia, emerges. And it's also more expansive in the conversation this Frankensteinian fable wants to have about parenthood, as well as the genie-out-of-the-bottle effect of artificial intelligence. But did you know in the first draft of this sequel, Joe Rogan and Snoop Dogg had brief parts written for them? Or that at one point in the script, Cady – played by Violet McGraw – has to fend off her sweet, old grandad in a fight scene in a diner, because he's being controlled by a neuro-chip? Or that the story initially involved Amelia firing missiles into the Middle East, sparking a new conflict in the region – a plot line removed for obvious reasons? In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, Gerard walks me through his fascinating and extremely funny sequel. We get into all the important plot points in spoiler detail – and talk about the pressure of following up a film with the kind of immense digital footprint that the first one had.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Heads up—this episode does discuss sexual abuse in context of our criminal justice system. If this would be difficult or challenging for you to hear, you might want to skip this episode. In episode 21 I share my recent experience at the Psychedelic Science Conference in Denver where I got to hang out with many of the guests on this podcast. It's also where I met today's guest Sia Henry. Sia is deeply dedicated to liberation and racial justice, with extensive work in criminal legal system reform and abolition. She is a Senior Policy Associate at the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) and the founder of The Hood Exchange, which introduces formerly incarcerated Black communities to international travel. During the discussion, Sia shares her personal background and explores the intersection of psychedelics, restorative justice, and criminal justice reform. We talk about her early experiences with psychedelics and the fact that psychedelics are not fully integrated into the Black community. She also delves into the transformative potential of restorative justice practices for addressing systemic harm, the importance of racial equity in advocacy, and her vision for the future of criminal justice reform and how psychedelics could play a healing role. Sia also shares a beautiful story about her nonprofit, The Hood Exchange, and the impact of their first trip to Ghana and the significance of international travel for healing and community building in the Black community.
