On this last Sunday before Christmas we leave Isaiah to turn the clock back in Israel's history. King David wants to build a house for God, a "temple," where the Presence can abide. Initially, this plan sounds good to everyone. Then the prophet Nathan has a dream. A prophet's dream can mess up anybody's plan. Join us this Sunday online-only as we look together at houses for God. What will come of David's plan? Does Nathan indeed mess it up? We'll talk about it!

I refuse to lose.” It's the mantra that has guided Foundr CEO Nathan Chan through the highs and lows of becoming an entrepreneur. It helped him resist the naysayers, and confront deep insecurities and self-doubt, to build the business he fell in love with right away. That sense of determination and drive continues to fuel Foundr’s big goal of impacting tens of millions of entrepreneurs around the globe with world-class resources and training. In this inspiring interview, Nathan gets up close and personal and takes us behind the scenes of what it was like starting Foundr—the good and not so good—and the many lessons he learned along the way. Interviewed by Dave Hobson, our head of product and business development and one of the first to join the Foundr team, the two reminisce about the early days, the first goals the company set, and the memorable moments that transformed the company from a side hustle to global presence. Pull up a chair and a drink (Does Nathan prefer wine or beer? Find out in this interview!) and learn more about Foundr, how the company started, and where it is headed in the near future. Nathan shares it all in this special 200th podcast episode. We promise you this is an interview that will inspire you for many years to come. Key Takeaways How Nathan transitioned from his day job to full-time entrepreneur and why the timing was critical to his success What separates the entrepreneurial success stories from those who never make it happen How to minimize risk where you can while still making huge strides for your business The importance of knowing your strengths and weaknesses and getting the right advice from mentors. This is one of the keys to Foundr’s growth.

Do you drink from the cup of trembling? Do you sup those dregs of hopelessness? Welcome back B.O.S.S. listeners. We continue our journey into the work of James Baldwin by reading the story "Sonny's Blues," a narrative about addiction, artistic creation, communion, destruction, existential dread, music's universal power, poetic prose, pragmatism, siblings, suffering, the trap of home, race, redemption, and what we leave behind. Once again, David and Nick find themselves trying to convince Nathan of the "substance" of the narrative. Does Nathan have his come-to-Jesus moment? Or, does he drink from the very cup of trembling?  Find yourself a copy of the story, read it, and join us!  To receive bad-ass artwork and hand-typed invitation letters (or if you want to see what else we have read (or check out Nick's novella)), go to our website: http://www.booksofsomesubstance.com/  FIND US ON:  INSTAGRAM    FACEBOOK    TWITTER

This week we have a 2 man team with only Russ and myself but we were able to knock out another show as we jumped right into the main topic of the week: "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call" spoilercast. Did the 2016 Ghostbusters live up to the hype or will this be just another bad addition to the franchise? Does Nathan repeatedly bring up Xtreme Ghostbusters, just because? You bet I did. We go over the basic plot and what we loved and hated about the newest addition to the Ghostbuster franchise and a little past the half way point, we go on about what we've been playing, like Russ' monkey business and Nate's sad obsession with old. gaming hardware. --Nathan

Lone genius inventor The myth. Thomas Edison. Google. Boss guy taking credit. Standing on the shoulders of giants. Could the open source movement make great breakthroughs possible for small groups? Didn’t it already? Turing Test Commonly misunderstood. But the intelligence in this movie is way past that anyway. Testing for theory of mind might be the right track for the future. Personification of AI Being a cute, vulnerable girl AI goes a long way. Uncanny valley. Sexual attraction to non-human humanoid intelligences. AI Danger Fast/slow takeoff. AI will look back on us like pre-Sapiens fossils. It is not difficult to “escape the box.” If a person can do it, so can a superintelligence. Machine Learning/Data Collection Google might be the biggest and most successful AI project in the world. Phone spying. Black-box neural networks. Algorithmic complexity. AI Ethics Is it immoral to create an AI and not let it be free? “Do you have someone testing you who could turn you off?” Romantic interest better than morals? Does Nathan consider how he is treating the AIs? God complex. Baghavad Gita. The end of humanity. AI arms race.
