It's Black Maternal Mental Health Week! Black mothers are much more likely to suffer a pregnancy or infant loss, and also more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth. The emotional and mental weight of these losses is heavy and ever present for Black mothers in America (and many other countries). There are many factors that influence these statistics, but the over arching truth is that it has to change. And the first step to change is awareness. At Smooth Stones Coaching, we are  here to support all our sisters who have endured loss.  I am honored to have as my guest Erica McAfee. Erica is a mom of two babies in heaven and one miracle child. She is an advocate for Black maternal mental health and grief support. She is an educator, speaker, and podcaster at Sisters in Loss, where she shares stories of loss and hope. Erica also trains birth and bereavement doulas. She is a classically trained violinist and lover of Jesus Christ. Happy New Year 2018!  Welcome Episode 26 of the Erica M. McAfee Podcast.  Today’s podcast is brought to you by The Honey Pot company.  Did you know that there was a black owned, plant based feminine care company?  The Honey Pot companies goal is to educate, support and provide women around the world with the tools and resources that promote feminine health and wellness.  To learn more about the Honey Pot Company and to get a discount on products visit EricaMMcAfee.com/Honey for more information. Today’s episode is a solo episode of the podcast.  I wanted to start the year off with chatting with you about the biggest lesson I learned from 2017, and doing what scares me by being Fearless in 2018.  Before I begin, thank you to all who have rated, reviewed, and subscribed to the podcast in Apple Podcasts.  You can still complete the Podcast Survey by visiting bit.ly/emmpodcastsurvey and you will be entered into a raffle for a $20 Amazon Gift Card.  I love your feedback it helps me get an idea of what type of content you want to hear in the new year. Thank you to those ladies who have joined the Sister’s in Loss facebook group.  I did not expect the group to grow so much after just launching it in November.  If you haven’t joined the facebook group please press pause on this episode and visit sistersinloss.com to join in.  There is so much in store for 2018 that I will get into at the end of this episode.  Once again you can join us by visiting sistersinloss.com to be apart of the community.  Now, lets get into this episode.  What did I learn from 2017?  I actually wrote an entire blogpost on the 10 lessons learned from 2017.  You can go to EricaMMcAfee.com/Blog to read all of my lessons.  But the greatest lesson I learned was that God’s plans are always greater than our plans.  I started this podcast because God was pushing me to my purpose.  I was being stubborn and not listening.  But then the holy spirit will continue to bring to my remembrance 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Why was I being so fearful about walking in my purpose?  Why did I not want to take action? What was I waiting for especially since I had “everything I needed” to take action.  Let me tell you how long fear had me.  My husband had gifted me a quality microphone and a new Macbook pro in Christmas of 2015.  I waited until July 2017 to launch my website and August 2017 to launch this podcast.  I cold emailed my first guest and the rest is history.  Everyone has said yes of course I am willing to share.  Yes, of course I’m ready to tell my testimony.  Yes, of course I want to help other women heal from their loss.  With over 1000+ downloads later God’s plans are always greater than our plans.  So, what am I going into 2018 doing?  Doing everything that scares me.  Being Fearless.  Living by 2 Timothy 1:7.  God has given me the spirit of power, love and a sound mind.  Not Fear!   You can follow Erica on Social Join the Sister's in Loss Facebook Group Erica's Website Erica's Instagram Erica's Facebook Erica's Twitter

This episode is brought to you by The Honey Pot Company.  Did you know that there was a black owned, plant based feminine care company?  The Honey Pot companies goal is to educate, support and provide women around the world with the tools and resources that promote feminine health and wellness.  I was first introduced to the Honey Pot company through a CurlBox body and received their 3 in 1 Sensitive Wipes.  I loved them so much I had to repurchase.  To learn more about the Honey Pot Company and to get a discount on products visit EricaMMcAfee.com/Honey for more information. Today is a solo episode of the podcast.  This is the 17th episode to be exact.  The numbers 7 and 17 are special numbers for me obviously because my birthday is on July 17th.  7 meaning completion and the number 17 meaning fulfillment and good fortune.  It is also the day I launched my blog this year EricaMMcAfee dot com.  I stepped out on faith and followed what God laid on my heart to share my story to inspire others to do the same.  This is how the Erica M McAfee Podcast was born it was launched on August 1 and we are 17 episodes in.  So, it was only fitting for me to go solo on this 17th episode of the podcast and for me to talk about the Power of your Testimony. Revelation 12:11 tells us that we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony.  3 Reasons Why you Need to Share your Testimony! You are not a victim.  You are the voice!   God will heal your broken heart! Direct others to Christ!   You can follow Erica on Social Join my mailing list to download your FREE Angel Mom Prayer. In today’s episode Jameelah shares her Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Story of daughter Ryen who passed away at 4 months old and how she founded Ryen’s Divine Angels organization.  Jameelah and her husband Luther found Ryen unresponsive and not breathing during a huge snow storm in Atlanta in January 2014.  Jameelah fell into a deep depression with anxiety and even suicide attempts.  With God’s grace and guidance, Jameelah defied all odds and came out stronger and closer with her husband than ever.  They began using Instagram as a tool to connect with other Angel Moms and Father’s and that is how Ryen’s Divine Angels, a non-profit organization was founded in 2015.  They saw a need to break the silence around SIDS/SUID through awareness, education, and the promotion of mental health through counseling and spiritual guidance.  Ryen’s Divine Angel’s is hosting an Angel Mom Brunch on October 22, 2017 in Atlanta Georgia. Since 2015, a year after losing their daughter to SIDS, it became evident that their story as well as other women needed to be heard all around the world. With that, they began using Instagram as a tool to connect with other Angel mothers and fathers, allowing them to share their stories with the world. The outpour of support from fellow angel families and those who had never heard of such tragedies caused for an immense sense of healing and community. Ryen’s Divine Angels, a non profit organization, was founded on the need to make Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness a national cause that receives as much attention as other important causes such as breast cancer awareness and domestic violence awareness. Coincidently, October is the awareness month for all three causes, but many do not know that Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness even exists. The reason we don’t hear much about Pregnancy and Infant Loss is because parents hold a lot of guilt, depression and embarrassment after the loss of child,  which in turn causes them to grieve in silence. It is their goal to break that silence, which will not only inform others but save angel families from self destructive behavior. Over 900,000 families experience the loss of a pregnancy and/or infant via miscarriage, still birth, SIDS/SUID (Sudden Infant Death/Sudden Unexpected Infant Death), and various causes explained and unexplained.   RDA is committed to making Pregnancy and Infant Loss a national concern through awareness, education and the promotion of mental health through counseling and spiritual guidance. It is their hope to uplift angel families, empowering them to share their stories and encouraging them to heal properly and healthily. Ryen’s Divine Angels dedicated to the prevention of pregnancy and infant loss through awareness, education and research. RDA is also an organization that offers bereavement service assistance to families who have been financially burdened by such losses.  October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.  To honor our Angel Babies gone to heaven too soon, we created MyBabyExisted.com where we are posting pictures to show that our babies did exist.  Visit MyBabyExisted.com for more information on how to download your Meme and post pictures of your baby bump, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, or babies to show that they did exist.  All month long we will repost pictures using the hashtag #mybabyexisted to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Our babies did exist and now exist forever in our hearts in minds.   Jameelah's Social Links Ryen's Divine Angels - Angel Mom Brunch October 22, 2017 Atlanta, Georgia Ryen's Divine Angels Instagram Jameelah's Instagram Follow Erica at EricaMMcAfee.com Erica's Instagram Erica's Twitter Erica's Facebook
