At just seventeen years old, Lexi found herself pregnant and facing pressure from her doctor to terminate her pregnancy after her baby was diagnosed with Spina Bifida. She was told her son would never live a normal life, but despite the fear and uncertainty, Lexi chose to continue her pregnancy and gave birth via cesarean section. Today, her son is fourteen years old, healthy, and thriving. Two years later, Lexi became pregnant again, but her second pregnancy ended in tragedy. Throughout her prenatal care, she repeatedly voiced concerns that something was wrong, yet her symptoms were dismissed by providers. Her baby was ultimately stillborn due to severe undiagnosed IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction). After these two birth experiences, Lexi lost trust in the mainstream maternity care system and turned to midwifery care for her future pregnancies. In this episode, she shares her journey through pregnancy after loss, cesarean birth, stillbirth, VBAC after two cesareans (VBA2C), and ultimately achieving a healing home birth with a 10-pound baby! In this re-aired episode, HeHe sits down with Dr. Heather Florescue for an incredibly important and deeply educational conversation about stillbirth prevention, placental health, and the warning signs families deserve to know during pregnancy. Together, they unpack why conversations around stillbirth are so often avoided, how education can empower—not scare—parents, and what proactive care can look like when we truly prioritize maternal and fetal health. Dr. Florescue explains the role of placental function in pregnancy outcomes, why estimated placental volume matters, and how recognizing changes in fetal movement and maternal intuition can be life-saving. She also shares current research, discusses risk factors that are often overlooked, and highlights protocols used in places like the UK and Australia that have helped reduce stillbirth rates through earlier intervention and better patient education. This episode is not about fear. It's about informed awareness, advocacy, and helping families understand that paying attention to your body and your baby matters. If you've ever felt dismissed during pregnancy or wondered whether you were “overreacting” to a concern, this conversation is such an important reminder that your instincts deserve to be heard.   Guest Bio: Dr. Florescue is an ob.gyn. in private practice at Women Gynecology and Childbirth Associates in Rochester, N.Y. In this episode Rosie Moss speaks with Donna Rice-Hannam, who found Widowed AF just five weeks after her husband Mark died suddenly in October 2024. What follows is a conversation full of heartbreak, fury, dark humour, and the kind of honesty that makes grief feel a little less lonely.Donna shares the story of meeting Mark through mutual friends, a “blind blind date,” and a pub-stairs snog that turned into a relationship built on safety, tenderness and fierce loyalty. After years of difficult relationships, mental health struggles and recovery, Donna found in Mark someone who didn't just love her, but actively protected her wellbeing.Together they survived the devastating late-pregnancy loss of their daughter, privately named Charlotte but publicly known as “Pebbles.” Donna talks candidly about stillbirth, trauma, and the way grief bonded them even more deeply together. She describes Mark's quiet acts of love, from packing the car and taking her to the sea during bipolar episodes, to proposing in Paris simply because “he just wanted to see you smile.”The conversation then turns to the terrifying weeks leading up to Mark's death: repeated hospital admissions, catastrophic internal bleeding, blood transfusions, discharge decisions Donna felt deeply uneasy about, and the growing horror of realising something was being missed. Donna recounts the final hours in devastating detail, from the ambulance ride and failed attempts to stabilise him, to watching doctors perform CPR while begging him to come back.Rosie and Donna also talk about what happens afterwards: the rage of unanswered questions, delayed inquests, poor bereavement care, losing friendships alongside your partner, and the dangerous pull of alcohol when grief feels physically unbearable. Throughout it all, Donna speaks openly about bipolar disorder, surviving early widowhood, and the conscious decision to protect her mental health because Mark fought so hard to protect it while he was alive. This episode covers:• Falling in love after difficult relationships and finding safety in another person• Bipolar disorder, recovery, and supportive partnership without losing independence• Stillbirth, grief after baby loss, and naming their daughter Charlotte (“Pebbles”)• The role of humour, routine and practical care in long-term love• Hospital trauma, internal bleeding, repeated discharge attempts and advocating for loved ones• The shock of sudden death and witnessing resuscitation efforts firsthand• Anger, delayed accountability and ongoing inquest proceedings• Friendship, community and the people who quietly keep you alive in early grief• Alcohol, counselling, medication and surviving the “messy middle” of widowhood• Why protecting your mental health can become an act of love for the person you lost#widowedaf #widowhood #griefpodcast #griefsupport #bipolardisorder #pregnancyloss #stillbirth #nhs #medicaltrauma #inquest

In today's episode, we speak with Stephanie about her stillborn daughter, Penelope, who arrived at 39 weeks and 6 days. After two healthy births and a completely uneventful third pregnancy, Stephanie found herself facing the unthinkable: an awareness of no fetal movement, confirmed by a silent Doppler and finally a hospital ultrasound. What followed was labor induction, birth, and the impossibility of leaving the hospital without her baby, riding home with her innocently cheerful toddlers in the car.Next came shock and denial, pleading with God, managing her milk coming in, and experiencing an isolation so extreme that even a friend of fifteen years told Stephanie she couldn't handle maintaining a friendship in the face of something so grave. Stephanie also reflects on the impact to her equally-devastated husband, the family members who ranged from phenomenal to absent, and facing the disorienting task of caring for her two children while grieving a third. To this day, Stephanie grapples with how to answer the question mothers usually enjoy: "How many children do you have?"  Our conversation later turns to grief, faith, 'God winks' that seem to show up everywhere as signs of her daughter's love and presence, and Stephanie's evolving sense of peace, even hope and eagerness, as she looks toward continuing to expand her family. **********Send us Fan MailNeeded

In this solo episode, I'm talking about something that can feel complicated in grief… the gifts our babies leave us with. And no—I don't mean anything that takes away from the pain or tries to “silver line” their loss. I mean the real, undeniable ways they've changed us. For a long time, I only knew Brody through pain. Through devastation. Through everything that was taken from me. But at some point, I realized… I didn't want that to be the only way I carried him. So I started to see what else was there. How deeply present I've become with the people I love. How much more authentically I show up in my life. How my perspective—shaped through grief—has created a version of me I'm actually proud of. These are the gifts. And it's okay to acknowledge them. It's okay to lean into them. It doesn't mean you're “moving on.” It means you're moving with. This is how we become the next version of ourselves—the one our babies made us. And the reason we can be both heartbroken… and incredibly proud of them at the same time.     ************************************* This Podcast is brought to you by LossLink.com. Confessions of a Grieving Mother

Type of loss: Stillbirth, Delayed twin interval birthMore about Kara's Story: In this episode, Kara Catalano shares her journey through infertility, enduring seven unsuccessful rounds of IVF after being told she had less than a 1% chance of conceiving with her own eggs. On the eighth round, she finally received the news she had been praying for — she was pregnant with twins. But at her first ultrasound, the joy quickly turned to fear when she was told she should terminate one of the babies within 24–48 hours due to concerns about fluid levels. Kara opens up about the complex pregnancy that followed, including multiple losses and the experience of delayed twin interval birth, as she honors the love she has for each of her babies.Trusting her instincts, Kara chose to wait.A week later, a new doctor confirmed that both babies were doing well and there was no longer any need to consider termination. For a moment, hope returned. But at 17 weeks and 5 days, Kara went into spontaneous labor and delivered her daughter stillborn. In the midst of that devastating loss, something extraordinary happened — her son remained safely in the womb. What followed was a rare and complex medical situation known as a delayed twin interval birth. Kara carried her son for another 12 weeks before delivering him prematurely.

In this episode, I'm answering your questions — the real ones. The ones you sent me quietly on Instagram. The ones that sit heavy in your chest at 2am. We're talking about: – Have I actually found joy again… without constantly thinking my baby should be here? – How to handle not getting grace from the people around us – What to do when you feel like your body failed you – Navigating strained relationships after stillbirth – Trying to conceive again (TTC) and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it – Regrets about hospital decisions and the “what ifs” that won't let go – Pregnancy after loss (PAL) and living in two realities at once – The anger that comes with feeling like you have to “start over” Nothing is off limits here. I share what this has looked like in my own life — the messy middle, the guilt, the growth, the perspective shifts that took years to land. I don't offer perfect answers, because there aren't any. But I do offer honesty. If you've ever wondered whether joy is allowed… If you've wrestled with resentment toward your body… If your relationships changed and you don't recognize them anymore… If you're TTC again while terrified… This episode is for you. You're not dramatic. You're not broken. You're grieving. And I'm right here with you. ❤️‍

In this episode, I talk about the most fantastic mess that is life after stillbirth. This is emotional whiplash at its finest...Loss mamas are out here doing the damn thing every single day—showing up, parenting, working, laughing—and still grieving, spiraling, and holding a whole lot beneath the surface. Two things can be true at once, and they usually are.I share a moment where I blurted out something dark but completely factual… and the person on the receiving end said absolutely nothing. We get into how grief conversations have evolved (or haven't), why people don't know what to do with us, and how wildly inappropriate things still get said to our faces—like, “I would have died if something happened to my baby.” Cool. Thanks. Super helpful. This episode is about the messiness, the awkwardness, the growth, the rage, the humor, and the reality of living after stillbirth. It's about surviving, adapting, and learning how to exist in a world that's uncomfortable with our truth. If you're a loss mama trying to hold it together while falling apart, this one's for you.Welcome to the fantastic mess.

From letting go of how grief should look. From stopping the need to be understood. And from building a life after loss in the way you need to, not the way others expect. If you've ever felt like a misfit in your grief, about how you're doing this and am looking for guidance on owning it, this one is for you. JOIN LOSSLINK.COM to find your loss posse ************************************* NOTE: I am not a doctor or a therapist. In this episode, I talk openly about God after the death of my son, Brody—what my faith looks like now, what it doesn't, and how it has changed in ways I never expected. I share my honest thoughts, doubts, anger, comfort, and the quiet moments where belief feels complicated but still present. I also dive into what it's like to parent after loss—how grief shows up in anxiety, how it lives in my body and my thoughts, and the things that genuinely help me when the fear gets loud. This isn't about having it all figured out; it's about surviving, regulating, and finding ways to feel safe in a world that no longer feels predictable. Finally, I talk about the way Brody's death reshaped how I show up in the world. The attitude I try to carry. The energy I try to contribute. The way loss softened me, sharpened me, and changed how I treat others—and myself. I also talk about a lot of other random stuff too LOL This episode is for anyone navigating faith after loss, parenting with grief, or trying to live gently and intentionally after their world has been shattered. You're not alone here.

Laura and Nick Bordignon fell in love with their daughter before she was born. They named her Makayla. They decorated her nursery. Nick snuggled up to Laura's stomach and read to her at night. But seven months into the pregnancy Laura stopped feeling Makayla's movements, and doctors confirmed the worst. Makayla is one of about 3-thousand stillborn babies delivered every year in Canada. And despite the devastation that comes with that experience – stillbirth is seldom talked about. For many it's still taboo. This is one family's story of confronting that taboo and advocating for better medical care for those who experience it.
