He graduated from Erie High School, Central College, and Palmer College of Chiropractic. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and has a Doctorate in Chiropractic. As a certified Athletic Trainer, Dr. McConnell has a sports injury background and knowledge of diagnosis, initial treatment, and rehab exercises to enhance his patients' recovery.

On December 2, 2019 Justin Carpenter and his wife Jamie left their vacation in Florida to fly to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The reason was as cold as that Minnesota winter, to confirm that Justin had early on-set ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease as it is more commonly known. But for Justin, his ALS diagnosis would not define him and his life, instead, it marked the start of a new purpose for him. That purpose… to help others understand and follow the belief that spiritually we are all immortal. And with faith, we will all have eternal life no matter what happens to us physically. Justin is the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Erie High School in Colorado. His love, compassion, and empathy towards his students, athletes and fellow educators is unmatched. He exemplifies what means to lead others by being a servant leader and putting their needs first. On our Thursday program, we welcomed back two of the now college freshman that we met last summer that found direction through the GO College program at Erie High School. We found out how they are acclimating to college life, how their classes and finals went for their very first semester, while we gave voice to our young people. Our guests included Mikel Ott Crosby who is attending Gannon University, Justice Wickham attending Mercyhurst University, and GO College officials Dan Hicks, Program Coordinator at Erie High, and Barb Priestap, the Director of the program.

On Friday's show we talked to three launching seniors, Mikal-Bryan, Justice, and Kimberly, who just graduated from Erie High School, and who were also participants in the Go College Program. We also welcomed back to the microphone Barb Priestap, the Go College Program Director and High School Outreach Liaison at Gannon University. We heard the stories of our graduates and how they navigated the college selection and application process and how the Go College program helped to launch these young people into the next step of their lives.

On the Monday show, we shined the spotlight on school safety and the fights and bad behavior occurring at Erie High School that is showing up on social media. A mother of an Erie High student, Kerry Tabb, called in to explain her perspective. Then we learned about what the Blue Coats are doing to reduce school violence and provide mentoring and intervention from director Daryl Craig or Brother D, and Brother Kevin Stevenson. Finally, Ken Nickson, Coordinator of Educational Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Erie's Public Schools came on the program to talk long-term solutions he is working on.
