In this week's edition of the Friday Focus, we're excited to introduce another key leader for the upcoming summer—Josh Gillespie, the team leader for the Blue Team.Josh is no stranger to Southland, having faithfully served over the past three summers in a variety of roles, including as a member of the grounds crew and a camp counselor. Understanding climate action through the words we useKeep an ear out for an easter egg after the outro on this one.The words we use matter. Terms like "sustainability”, “net zero” and “resilience” signify our industry's evolving priorities and concerns. These “buzzwords” reflect current cultural circumstances within the AEC industry and larger society while also actively shaping how we approach and address these issues. In this episode will be exploring the meanings and relationships between many of the current buzzwords that are alive in the AEC today. If you've ever wanted to deepen your understanding of words and terms like “sustainability”, “net zero”, “embodied carbon”, “circular economy”, “resilience” or “adaptation” you'll appreciate this interview w/ Kjell Anderson of LMN Architecture in Seattle.Yes, buzzwords come and go. We routinely air quote them somewhat irreverently. But do not be fooled - buzzwords are also important. Far from being superficial, these trends in language mark the emergence, acceptance, and eventual integration of new, often significant, ideas. When a word gains prominence, it often signals a collective reckoning with the issue it represents. Conversely, when it fades, it may indicate that the idea has either been absorbed into the mainstream, superseded by more urgent concerns, or—sometimes quite worryingly—been deprioritized.Dictionary definition of “Buzzword”: (pejorative) A word drawn from or imitative of technical jargon, and often rendered meaningless and fashionable through abuse by non-technical persons in a seeming show of familiarity with the subject.Kjell AndersonKjell is LMN's Director of Sustainable Design and leader of LMN's Green Team, spearheading initiatives into energy modeling, materials + health, and water use reductions. With 24 years of experience, Kjell is well-regarded at local and national levels as a sustainability expert. He is a founding part of Seattle's 2030 Roundtable, an inaugural member of AIA's National Energy Leadership Group, and in other roles in setting practical and innovative directions for the profession. Kjell has contributed to the design of dozens of LEED New Construction projects, plus Pilot projects under USGBC's Neighborhood Development and Commercial Interiors programs, including several Gold and Platinum-certified projects. He is the author of Design Energy Simulation for Architects, published by Routledge in 2014, and has guest taught Arch 533 (Advanced Environmental Systems) at the University of Washington. Kjell earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Washington State University. Some of Kjell's representative projects include the Hyatt Regency Seattle, Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion, and the Eastside Tech Tenant East Campus Modernization and RedWest South project.TeamHosted by Kristof IrwinEdited by Nico MignardiProduced by M. As expected, the Xbox Developer_Direct is set to arrive soon and it will boast four games. Those titles are South Of Midnight, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a mysterious fourth game that's rumored to be from a "legendary Japanese IP." Naturally, the Dukes have many guesses about that, but also if there will the be usual fifth game that shows up like it has since Developer Direct became a thing. We won't have to wait long to find out. What we'll need to wait a while for is if Xbox will survive beyond 2030. No, that's not hyperbole. Outlet The Information reports that the Xbox business was set to shutdown in 2021 unless Game Pass subscriptions went up. What the rest of the write-up depicts are spooky times for the Green Team as it seems more and more like these moves by Xbox are more for survivability. Oblivion Remake continues to be a horribly kept secret, so we get into some new gameplay details on that, and also into what's going on with Ubisoft as Assassin's Creed Shadows sees another delay. You can get all of that, plus your weekly throat coat, all here on Defining Duke! It's never a slow week on the Green Team, is it? Here are the Dukes thinking our final episode of the year will be a nice, steady, and quiet exit into the new year, but Xbox had different plans! This week, Satya Nadella addressed investors and claimed that Microsoft's newest “This Is An Xbox” campaign is specifically defined to, well, redefine what it means to be an Xbox fan. So, what is an Xbox fan now? What is one by the new generation? Will there even be a shiny new box with that new generation at this rate? Every time the Dukes think this conversation is laid to rest, Xbox manages to twist the knife one more time. We also get into Xbox's Project Rainway, a cross platform Xbox guide system, as well as why The Outer Worlds 2 is PS5 bound! We also sink our teeth into SEGA's renaissance, what dormant IP Capcom may tackle next, why Starfield has so many loading screens, a boatload of “health is wealth” write-ins, and plenty more in a strong finish to a mighty interesting year for Xbox! In this Immigration Conversation podcast episode hosted by Immigration Supervisor Lauren Spencer, we connect with members of Fragomen's Green Team across various offices, including Practice Leader Jane Goddard, Desktop Support Specialist Ross Gibson and Office Services Manager Ema Gombos to explore how even a small group of employees can drive big changes within their workplace's sustainability practices. Fragomen in the UK, for example, has successfully reduced emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 to zero, using 100% renewably sourced energy in our London and Sheffield offices. Scope 1 and 2 are categories of greenhouse gas emissions that a company generates based on where they originate, either from direct or indirect sources. This milestone marks progress in our ongoing journey to a more sustainable future, and it is a reflection of the impact a Green Team can make.

BT4th Wall Talks Season 2's Intro episode of House of the Dragon!
‘Langzamerhand is ontzettend veel materiaal wegwerp geworden.' Adam Jones has joined the Green Team, folks! He asks the big Q @2:00: Where do you rank Jayson Tatum in the NBA following the Celtics' championship? Mego says top five, Arcand says top three, and Jones passionately states top two. He said, "I thought about Giannis to put over Tatum, but I wouldn't. I think Tatum is two. I am not starting my team with Doncic over Tatum, or Giannis over Tatum. I wouldn't take Shai. I have him in the top three." Also, a discussion on Jaylen Brown playing better after he got paid rather than sitting back.

Tom and Kevin discuss how much team competition is too much team competition on Top Chef, as the chefs again split up into two teams to come up with a progressive, 5-course meal befitting of a vintage supper club. The producers inject an edgy dose of conflict into the show when the the teams are restricted to just over $20 per diner, and chefs jockey over assignments. One chef emerges as an unwitting villain on the Green Team, while the Purple Team endures the Great Pineapple Shortage of Season 21. At the judges' table, the chef with the worst dish of the night is spared, though there are no shortages of clunkers. Jews are not white! How many times do we need to tell you this? If you're not a Jew and are listening to this episode, you probably have the image of a Fiddler-on-the-Roof-looking fellow (called a Chassid). While they are certainly real, they're not the only ones. Despite being in the minority of Jewish diversity, they are given most of the spotlight. Let's fix that problem. In this episode of Bad Jew we interview members of The LUNAR Collective, the only organization by and for Asian American Jews! Maryam Chishti, Vanessa Bloom, and David Chiu highlight the feats of the organization while discussing their personal experiences as Asian-American Jews. Host of Bad Jew Chaz Volk uncovers the Asian-Jewish experience and their contribution to the Jewish world.
