I hope you guys are having such an incredible day I hope that you love the fact that you get to work in dentistry and I know sometimes we can forget how great our life is I know sometimes we can get caught up in the minutia of the patients the schedule the turnover That sometimes we forget and I have this cute little quote right here. So if you guys are watching, I have an office who gave this to me They know I usually leave them with a good quote and it says now and then It's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy. And so today I hope that you pause in your pursuit of greatness and remember to just be happy, to be happy for the life that you're living, whether it's where you want it to be or whether it's not where you want it to be, to be happy that you're alive and that you have more days that you get to choose what you want to do. I was sitting on a plane flying and I sat next to a man and it was his birthday. And if I remember right, he was turning 90 and I said, what does someone at 90 wish for on their birthday? And he said, I wish for more birthdays. And I've thought about that a lot of, I be like, if I was 90 and my wish would be to be wishing for more birthdays, what would I, what would I be thinking about today? What would I be wishing when I turned 90 and wishing for more birthdays? Would I have wished that I would do today? And I think one of the biggest things I've come to is to just enjoy. to enjoy the life I'm living, I think there's so much of this like hustle mentality and you look on social media and we often feel like we're not doing enough or that we're not being enough or that all these things and I'm like, since when has that become culture? I was at another conference and they said that one of the greatest problems that our society is facing right now is social media and all the quote unquote criticism or people's opinions and that's preventing people from trying and. from living their life. And I thought about that a lot that, you know, is this something that we are doing to ourselves? Is this something that we could possibly, possibly, you know, work through? And I just think maybe instead of being so afraid and maybe instead of always on the pursuit and looking at what if we changed it and we enjoyed it? What if we did things just because we enjoy that? And this is something where I'm speaking more to myself than probably any of you have. Kiera Dent (02:21.836) I don't always have to be productive. And I think half of the game of life is to learn to love the life we're living and to really be content in that life that we're living. And so for each of you today, again, I hope that you pause in your pursuit of whatever you're pursuing and remember just to be happy today and to give yourself that great gift. So today I wanted to quickly, there was a question that came up of what they should have taught you in dental school. And it's funny to me because I actually did my story, my journey, if you're new to the podcast, welcome. Kiera Dent (04:42.01) I actually was a dental assistant and then I became a treatment coordinator and a scheduler and a biller and an office manager. And then I actually worked at a dental college at Midwestern University in Arizona while my husband attended pharmacy school. And when I was there, I remember I got the job and people asked me, Kiera why are you wanting to leave clinical practice and go into this education? And there was two reasons, but in my interview, what I said was reason number one is, I wanted to have a bigger impact and I knew I could not have that impact sitting in a clinical setting because I wanted to impact and inspire future dentists of how great this profession is. So that was my motivating reason. And I hadn't even thought about it until I was asked the question because my number one reason I was trying to get the job was because I wanted a discount on my husband's tuition. But I remember when I had my last day at my dental office. This is a little personal for me. I was working as a dental assistant and I remember I was curling my hair and I had the thought, Kiera you're probably not going to be in clinical dentistry again. And I wasn't, I was front office. And then I went into the dental college and I am so thankful that I worked there because one, I got to see what it's like for dentists and new dentists coming into the field of what your education's like. And mad kudos to Midwestern university in Arizona. Kudos to Dr. Gilpatrick and Dr. Brad Smith and Dr. Polito and Dr. so many Dr. Kramer and there were so many doctors that I worked with that truly are just incredible people. Like I have so many fun memories. I had such a good time. I decided to prank the dental students. I would make them like, my gosh, the things that I did at that dental college, I am so happy that they let me just be who I am and have fun with the holidays and make dental school fun for them. But what I really saw was one, There's so much clinical, there's so much of you learning how to do your .O .D .s and drop the box and get the perfect contacts that I think that there was so much about owning a practice that was maybe left and how to manage a team because you're such great clinicians and you love to be clinicians. And so I actually went and helped one of the students start her practice and I was a practice owner with her in Colorado. And we took our first practice from 500 ,000 to 2 .4 million in nine months and opened our second location. Kiera Dent (06:56.21) And if you think that that was a smooth, easy path, well, you should have known that both of us were basically on divorce row. I was on suicide's door. Like it was not a pretty scene and success oftentimes can come, but at what expense? so looking back at that, that's actually why I started the consulting company. Cause I thought if I could help her grow, what about all these other students that I know? And so shout out to all my Midwestern students. but I think a lot of things that they maybe should have taught you in dental school. This is not going to be a whole summary because at the end of the day, This is just a small piece, but I do want to let you know that we have monthly webinars to teach you a lot of these topics. And they're free. They're free CE. We call them Thirsty Thursday. It's on the third Thursday. So it's easy for you to remember. It's for those who are thirsty for more. And we do it on the third Thursday. And it is at 4 .30 PM Pacific time, 7 .30 Eastern. Free CE for you about things that you guys can learn and things that they should have taught you in dental school or things that they should teach you in a practice or. how you can make your practice run easier. And we have amazing guests that I vetted. We teach you a lot of content, but really wanting that to come for you guys. but a few things that I feel if I were to be able to talk to my students right now from Midwestern that I love so much of what did they not teach you in dental schools? Number one, you're probably more prepared than you think you are. And that's not going for every student. I know there were some students who needed it, but as I watched people become practice owners, Generally speaking, the students are actually pretty darn well prepared. And no matter how much more preparing you do, and no matter how much we do of this or that, you're probably still going to have, you're going to have concerns. And I remember when me and that student, opened our practice and we were producing like crazy mistakes happened, things happened. We didn't know what we were doing. I felt like we were two girls playing house and had no clue what we were doing. But I think isn't that life. Remember the first day you joined dental school or the first time you went to your first day working in a practice or your first day working on a live patient versus the Dexter. I think none of us feel prepared. And I think that that is good because it keeps us safe, but also I think it might keep us too safe. And so I wish that in dental school, our students would have learned that like, you're more prepared than you think you are at least at Midwestern. Now know that there's some colleges that maybe aren't as strong, but, you're probably more prepared than you think you are. And the other one is if you want to open a practice, Kiera Dent (09:12.224) open a practice. know there's a lot of commentary about DSOs and should we still open it and private practice and at the end of the day, I think that itch will never leave you. So if you have the itch to open a practice and to own, you probably are in the right shoes and to go for it. And I'm not saying to just haphazardly do it. That's why there's consultants. That's why there's coaches. That's why I'm obsessed with what we do because I wanted all of my students to have a resource in the industry where they could count on me. They could trust me to vet people. to lead them through it, to have no judgment, to answer the questions of what is a PNL or what are KPIs or what are all these things that I feel like I should know but I don't know. Let's stop shoulding on ourselves and let's just ask the questions and let's get the resources. But truly I wish that they would have taught you that you can own a practice and every doctor I've talked to for the most part, I'd say 90 % of them say, I wish I would have opened a practice sooner because I was more ready than I thought I was. Now on the flip side, I would also say I want you to learn a lot about your front office. I want you to learn the billing because I think that that's where doctors actually have a lot of worry and a lot of problems. And so that's actually why I created the virtual academy within Demilay team where I have literally CE courses for office management and billing. And they're not long, but taking the time just to understand and to get a lay of the land. So when you do have a team, you can truly help them. You know how to check and make sure your finances are correct. you know how to bill so that way you're never worried about your finances. And I wish that they would have told you that in dental school. Like, here's some pieces, here's some resources, learn this piece. Also the difference between cashflow and profitability and like what it is and how like it doesn't matter what you're producing, it matters what you're taking home. That's the biggest ticket because that's ultimately what like that's what we're working for. And I wish that there would have been some more conversation on that. And then I really truly wish in dental school, they would have taught the students to take their third and fourth years and treat them like mini resonancies, get the reps in, learn to get your speed up, learn to get your injections where they don't hurt, learn those things of the bedside manners and take the feedback from your professors. The girl that I worked with, she had done, gosh, I'm probably making this up, but over 200 crowns. And she practiced, people were like, there's no way. Kiera Dent (11:26.284) She was practicing, practicing on type it on. She was doing the reps and getting the reps and people were like, how did you guys hit the ground running from day one? Well, once she's an incredible dentist, like mad kudos to her, but two, she put the time in and the reps and she literally treated her third and fourth year as a mini residency and just did the reps and did the pieces to get herself the confidence. going into private practice, she was there. I also wish that they would have taught you guys to be confident in your exams. I love NDTR. If you're a podcast listener, phenomenal. If you're new to it, welcome. NDTR is my favorite exams, especially for new doctors. Cause it gives you kind of like a mental process of what to follow. Now you can think of the acronym as neuter. You can think of it as never date the rookie. You can think of it new dentist, tough road. You can think of it as Nevada dentist, totally rock. I don't care how you remember this acronym, but it's the next visit, the date to return, how much time is needed. And then is there recare scheduled for them? And what that does is it helps dentists to really get into those minds of how to do the exam effectively for patients to know exactly what do need to come back When do I need to come back? And how much time is this going to take? Because what you've done is you've just eliminated the three biggest objections that patients have when saying yes or no to treatment. And I really just think that those are some pieces that I feel like the profitability of the cashflow, how to run a business, knowing the front office and the billing, and then also like how to do really effective and efficient exams. Those are things that I think in dental school would have been so helpful for you to learn. I wish they would have done like a cost analysis for you of as an associate, if you're taking an in an associate ship, how do you know what you're going to be making? Like, I don't care if it's 30 % across the board. What does that look like and what is their production and what's 30 % of a hundred thousand dollar a month practice versus maybe 25 % of a $450 ,000 a month practice? And how many new patients are you getting and how to like vet those associate ships a little bit better to know financially what's going to make sense for you? What are the best opportunities for you? What is the mentorship piece? What's the line between being humble and confident versus cocky and prideful? Those are things that I feel as new dentists coming into the scene really can benefit you. And this is what I'm obsessed with doing webinars on for you guys and doing resources for you and creating the podcast. And then also coaching. I coach a lot of new doctors as soon as they bought practices or even as associates of how they can actually increase their production and how they can be stronger leaders as doctors. And I think that those would be a few things Kiera Dent (13:49.294) maybe could have been taught in dental school for you. Of course, there's like a myriad of other things, but those are just some tips of the iceberg. So always, always, always, I try to create free resources for students, those who are on a budget, doctors who are on a budget. know buying a practice is expensive. We were, I called my doctor 2 .5. As I watched that spine, it's 2 .5. And you can guess that was maybe a magic number of how much we were in the hole. And I think about that. It's okay. The money will come if you're a good dentist. The money will come, like constantly improve your skillset. I also wish I would have taught you guys how to do implants. Like implants are the day and the age of today. Sleep apnea, how to like adjust your bites, things like that, that I think you guys just struggle with when you're first out of school. But really building that confidence in you. And I just want to let you know that you are truly more prepared than you think you are. And I'm saying that for like 90%. Some of you still need the help, all right? Etimológicamente deriva de "folk" (pueblo, gente, raza) y de "lore" (saber, conocimiento) y se designa con esa palabra el "saber popular", el acervo cultural que se transmite de generación en generación. La consagración oficial se logró en 1878 con la fundación de la Folk-lore Society, la primera Sociedad Folklórica de carácter científico dedicada al estudio de la cultura tradicional. En 1887, la organización definió al folklore como “la ciencia que se ocupa de la supervivencia de las creencias y de las costumbres arcaicas en los tiempos modernos”. En nuestro país, se recuerda además el 22 de agosto, aniversario del nacimiento del etnógrafo entrerriano Juan Bautista Ambrosetti (1865-1917), considerado como el “Padre de la ciencia folclórica”. La fecha coincide, a su vez, con la realización en 1960 del Primer Congreso Internacional de Folclore presidido por el prestigioso folklorólogo salteño Augusto Raúl Cortazar. Dicho encuentro, celebrado en Buenos Aires, reunió a expertos y representantes de 30 países, quienes instauraron la fecha como Día Nacional del Folclore, consolidando la importancia de esta disciplina. Escritora, traductora, periodista, maestra y precursora del feminismo en la Argentina, Uruguay y Brasil, fue una de las grandes teóricas de la educación nacional que le imprimió su carácter a los procesos escolares de la época. Juana Manso nació en Buenos Aires, el 26 de junio de 1819; sufrió el exilio, su adolescencia y juventud osciló entre esos países. En Uruguay emprendió su primera labor educativa al crear el "Ateneo de Señoritas", donde educaba a las niñas de la elite montevideana; también, comenzó su carrera de escritora, y publicó sus poemas firmados con seudónimos en diarios de la Argentina y Montevideo. Durante su exilio en Brasil, se casó con un violinista portugués y ambos emigraron a Estados Unidos y Cuba en busca de oportunidades laborales. Su paso por Estados Unidos fue fundamental porque le permitió conocer los sistemas educativos en los que se inspiraría años más tarde para diseñar políticas educativas junto a Domingo Sarmiento. De regreso en Río de Janeiro, Juana participó como redactora en el exitoso periódico, O Jornal das Senhoras, donde comenzó a publicar sus primeros artículos en los que reflexiona sobre la esclavitud, el racismo y la necesidad de emancipación de la mujer. Aquella experiencia fue el antecedente de su Álbum de Señoritas, un periódico fundado y redactado por ella misma, algunos de cuyos pasajes compartimos en el informe que acompaña este artículo. A mediados de 1859, regresó definitivamente a Buenos Aires, donde su amigo, el escritor José Mármol, le presentó a Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, con quien compartió sus ideas sobre la educación como vehículo de la alfabetización y la necesidad de una educación para toda la población. Su legado está vinculado a la modernización educativa, la fundación de bibliotecas populares y, esencialmente, un sistema escolar mixto que pone en igualdad de condiciones a las mujeres y a los varones. Murió a los 55 años, en Buenos Aires, el 24 de abril de 1875; fue sepultada en el Cementerio Británico y, en 1915, sus restos fueron trasladados al panteón de Maestros del cementerio de la Chacarita, en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Sobre ella conversamos con Ignacio Frechtel, Doctor en Ciencias de la Educación por la Universidad de Buenos Aires, especializado en Historia de la Educación; miembro de la Sociedad Argentina de Investigación y Enseñanza en Historia de la Educación y del Anuario de Historia de la Educación, la revista académica de la Sociedad; docente de la materia Historia de la Educación Argentina en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UBA. Serabi Gold CEO Michael Hodgson joined Steve Darling from Proactive at our OTC studios in New York City to shared updates on the company's first-quarter highlights, showcasing significant improvements and progress in various areas. Serabi Gold reported a Q1-2024 gold production of 9,007 ounces, marking a notable 12.5% increase compared to Q1-2023 and representing the highest quarterly total reported since 2021. The Coringa project contributed 3,871 ounces of gold production at mined grades of 6.39 g/t gold, while the Palito plant processed a record quarterly total of over 54,000 tonnes of ore. Hodgson highlighted the successful arrival of a new ore sorter acquired for the Coringa project in Brazil, which has cleared customs and is en route to the site. The company remains on track for the commissioning of the ore sorter in Q4-2024. Additionally, Serabi Gold has initiated work on an updated Preliminary Economic Study at Coringa, which will incorporate revised geological resources, mineral reserves, and economic analyses outlining the planned use of the classification plant and process at the Palito Complex. Serabi Gold is reiterating its FY2024 consolidated gold production guidance of 38,000 – 40,000 ounces, demonstrating confidence in its operational capabilities and project advancement strategies. On today's podcast: 1) The Palestinian Authority is working with US officials on a plan to run Gaza after the ongoing war is over, with one of its top leaders arguing that Israel's aim to fully defeat Hamas is unrealistic and the militant group should instead join it under a new governing structure. 2) President Joe Biden's son Hunter was indicted on nine federal tax charges in a development that will become a political headache for the White House and Democrats as the 2024 campaign ramps up. 3) Treasury yields rose as traders pared expectations for the Federal Reserve to ease monetary policy aggressively next year after a better-than-forecast jobs report. Full Transcript: Good morning. I'm Nathan Hager and I'm Amy Morris. Here are the stories we're following today. This morning, we are learning the Palestinian authority is working with the US on a plan to run Gaza after the fighting ends. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad stay I spoke with Bloomberg News. He says his preferred outcome would be to include Hamas as a junior partner in a post war administration, if they are ready to come to ground, to an agreement and really accept the political platform of the PLO, accept the tools of struggle because this is an important point of difference between us and them, and then there will be a room for talk. Otherwise it's just simply things will continue to be the same. Prime Minister Mohammad Staya also tells Bloomberg he does not believe Hamas can be eradicated by Israel. His comments are at odds with the stated aim of Israel's military campaign to wipe out the militant group following the deadly October seventh terrorist attack. The war in Gaza so far has killed more than sixteen thousand Palestinians. That's according to the Hamas run Health Ministry. Now the major legal news breaking overnight in the US that could be a new political headache for President Biden. The president's son Hunter has been indicted on nine new federal tax charges in Los Angeles. That's on top of the federal gun charges he's facing in Delaware. We get more from Bloomberg's David Voriakis. It expands on an earlier agreement in which he would have pleaded guilty in federal court in Delaware and in July and avoided prison. Under this indictment, he could theoretically be sentenced to as much as seventeen years in prison. What government alleges is, I will quote, the defendants spent this money on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature. In short, everything by his taxi. Bloomberg's David Voriaki says. These new charges come as House Republicans plan to vote next week on formalizing their impeachment inquiry into President. By this latest indictment against Hunter, Biden does not offer evidence that the President benefited from or was involved in his son's activities. Also in the twenty twenty four election, Amy Republican Ron DeSantis's campaign is dealing with more disappointing news, as Bloomberg said, Baxter reports a fundraising event for the Florida governor tend to be canceled. About three thousand donors were invited to a Never Back Down super Pack lunch and to be held before this week's debate. A ten thousand dollars contribution would have given donors access to the lunch where Casey Dessentis was scheduled to speak, as well as a ticket to the debate itself, and an invite to a post debate celebration with a governor. Well, just a couple of days prior to the date, Never Back Down decided to cancel. Scott Wagner, who leads the pack, cited lack of interest. In November, a similar event raised one million dollar dollar, aed Baxter, Bloomberg Radio Right, Thank You ed Elsewhere in politics, more fallout for those IVY League presidents who struggled to denounce campus anti semitism on Capitol Hill this week. The presidents of Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania have issued statements clarifying their positions, but now investment manager Ross Stevens has withdrawn a one hundred million dollar donation that he had planned to give to Pen. Those details from Bloomberg's Charlie Pellett. Stevens is co founder of stone Ridge Asset Management, and he had pledged a stake in the firm to the Ivy League University to fund the Stevens Center for Innovation in Finance. According to a letter to university officials, Lawyers representing the firm said the school had violated anti discrimination and anti harassment policies it had accepted in order to become an investor in New York. Turning to markets, Investors are waiting for a critical data point this morning, the November jobs report, coming ahead of next week's FED meeting, their last of twenty twenty three. Let's get a preview from Bloomberg's Michael McKee. We should be seeing signs of a slowing economy in the labor market, but economists say not just yet. The consensus forecast is November saw the pace of hiring pick up, while unemployment was unchanged. About thirty thousand jobs won't be new, they will just reflect the return of autoworkers to pay rolls after the UAW strike, but hiring in healthcare, leisure and hospitality and government should keep healthy numbers Beyond manufacturing, markets are pricing a lower than anticipated number. However, so strength could lead to higher rates as investors worry the FED may not yet be done with rate hikes. Michael McKee, Bloomberg Radio, Mike, thank you. Turning overseas, the Japanese yen has surged over the past day. Traders betting the Bank of Japan will scrap the world's last negative interest rate regime sooner than previously thought the advance and Japanese stocks and bonds lower. At one point, the en jumped almost four percent against dollar. Checking Japanese currency right now the end at one forty four to twenty three against the dollar and elsewhere in Asia, Amy top communist leaders in China are promising to strengthen fiscal policy and boost demand while implementing a flexible and targeted monetary policy. China's state run news agency reports officials dropped the word forceful, which was included in previous policy. This came at a meeting chaired by Chinese President Shi Jinping and in corporate news. Back here in the US, the shakeup continues at Spotify. Chief financial officer Paul Vogel is departing after we'd already heard Spotify's head of marketing is heading for the exits. The streaming company announced widespread layoffs earlier this week, totally about fifteen hundred jobs. And now we'll joining us with a look at some of those other stories making news around the world. We bring in Bloomberg's Michael Barr Good Friday morning. Michael, Good morning to you. Nathan. Gunfire outside of Jewish synagogue and upstate New York. It's being investigated as a possible hate crime. Police said shots were fired outside Temple Israel in Albany just hours before the start of Honkkah. The synagogue's preschool was in session and put on lockdown. Nobody was hurt. Very angry and frustrated. Governor Kathy Hochel spoke out last night about the incident. Any act of anti Semitism is unacceptable and undermine the public safety at our synagogue. The first night of Hanukah is even more deplorable. Authorities took a twenty eight year old man in custody for allegedly firing two rounds from a shotgun. Meanwhile, the National Manora on the ellipse by the White House was also lit last night. Since the October seventh start of the Israel Hamas War, law enforcement agencies have warned of a spike in anti Semitic and Islamophobic crimes in the US. Police said gunman who killed three faculty members at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas was an unemployed professor who stuffed his waistband with ammunition before beginning the attack. Authority say sixty seven year old Anthony Polito brought a list of targets, although those shot weren't on that list. Sheriff Kevin mcmahill with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Polino was armed with the Taurus nine millimeter handgun. He had brought eleven magazines to the scene with him. Nine loaded magazines were found on his person after the shooting. Polito died in a shootout with police Wednesday, minutes after opening fire inside of building housing a business school. A fourth victim of visiting professor is hospitalized with life threatening injuries. The White House says it is troubled by the Senate's failure to move forward on a supplemental budget request. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says time he is running out to provide more a to Ukraine in its fight against Russia. We've got a few more weeks here and then we're out of Schlitz when it comes to help in Ukraine with this kind of securities systems, so that we've been able to provide, and that's just that that should be unacceptable to everybody, Admiral Kirby says. The emergency request, which also includes funding for Israel and US border securities, being held up by a small number of Republicans demanding what President Biden describes as extreme border policies. Good morning, I'm Nathan Hager. What comes the day after Israel's war with Hamas. The Palestinian authority says it is working with the US on a plan to run the Gaza strip after the fighting ends. One of its top leaders argues Israel's aim to fully defeat the Palestinian militant group Hamas is unrealistic. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Staya says his preferred outcome would be for Hamas to become a junior partner under the Palestine Liberation Organization, helping to build a new independent state that includes the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. Mohammed Staya spoke with Bloomberg's Ethan Branner from his office in the West Bank. Gaza is an integral part of the state of Banistlin right, and the Balestinian territory includes Gaza, West Bank and Jerusalem. So when we talk about two states, the geography of the two states is Gaza, Jerusalem and the West Bank. So this integral part of the Balistina territory should always be there is there a fear of going in after this operation by Israel that you're sort of following in on their tanks. We start a concern. We said that we are not going to go there on and Israelian militia what does it mean. It means that for us there has to be an arrangement. Our people are there and we need to put together structure and we need to put together a mechanism. This is something that we are working on with the international community in order for us to make it possible. There were there will be huge needs in terms of relief, reconstruction, to remedy the wounds, and are you ready to take that on? Not by ourselves, I mean, obviously we need international assistance, but this is your plan, your planners that the PA would when this thing ends, be the kind of vehicle for rebuilding Gaza by all means. Look, when Israel encouraged into Gaza in twenty fourteen, who did all the reconstruction, and we were still reconstructing Gaza. Most of the most of aspects of infrastructure has been actually built by the Palatina Authority, and even before the war, I should tell you that there were there under implementation a total value of eight hundred million dollars of infrastructure projects, that is and that has been under implementation by US roads, hospitals, water networks, electricity, desalination plants and so on. So we, as I told you, we never abandoned Gaza. We never left Gaza. So now any day after it should also include a package of assistance with the full engagement of the international community, because ourselves we cannot do it. A lot. The relationship between the PA and Hammas is very complicated. It's been there was after all, civil war, as you said in two thousand and seven. But the Israeli say they want to eradicate Hamas. Is that a goal that is achievable? Can you do it? First of all, you know, we tried four times or more to come to an agreement with Hamas, but it didn't work and correct and we signed four agreements. Unfortunately none of them was ever implemented by them by them, and recently we have had a dialogue in Egypt and an almen and we agreed on certain issues, we did disagree on a number of issues, and we did form a committee to keep them engaged. That was the idea, but unfortunately all these sort of things has happened, and then now things are going in a totally different direction. Now. For Israel to say that they are going to eradicate or eliminate Hamas, I don't think that's a possible goal to achieve simply because Hamas is not in Gaza only Hamas is in Libanon. Hamas in leadership, everybody knows in Kata, and they're here in the Wost Bank and so on and so forth. So what is needed really is a situation in which that Palestinian unity should be be allowed to function on very clear the bonds and agenda. We did put together certain bonds for Hamas to accept, they never accept it, including the recognition of international legitimacy, United National Resolutions, be a LO commitments and so on and so forth. We even invited Hamas to become part of the Ballistini and Balistan Liberation organ They never wanted to. Hamas wanted to take things their own way, either their way or the highway. And it seems that we are on the highway. So that is where the situation is now. As I said, whether Israel will be able to achieve what they are claiming to do, I doubt that. But on the other hand, in no way to say that you are in favor of what's happening. The suppression of Hamas ultimately needs to happen in some way if they're not going to come into the pl of if they're not going to foreswear their armed struggle and join in some international see what needs to happen with Hamas. What can you see happening? Well, I think Hamas before October seven is one thing, and Hamas after is a very good point. And so and therefore, I think if they are ready to come to ground, to an agreement and really accept the political platform of the blow, accept the tools of struggle, because this is an important point of difference between us and them, and then there will be a room for talk. Otherwise it's just simply things will continue to be the same. And even Palestinians should not be divided. We have been divided. Unfortunately, Hamas took over Gaza by force in two thousand and seven, and this should not have lasted for seventeen years. And that was the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohammed Staya, speaking with Bloomberg's Israel Bureau chief Ethan Bronner from his offices in the West Bank, and Ethan is here with us now from Tel Aviv. Much of that conversation, much of what we heard there from the Palestinian Prime Minister Ethan sounds so aspirational at this point in the war. What's it going to take to get those aspirations to become reality the day after? Well, hello, Nathan, I would say that it's going to take something superhuman. There is an incredible amount of bad things ahead. First, it's hard to imagine. I mean, there are several points here. One is that many people argue that when there is a massive catastrophe, it can become an opportunity. That terrible wars do lead to opportunities of rebuilding, and that is essentially what Prime Minister's style was trying to say. He's also repeating the Palestinie Authority on the Palestine Liberation Organization's main contentions of recent years about what needs to happen and why it hasn't happened, And one can understand that. I think the problem is that the Israelis are in complete disagreement. At least this Israeli government under Prime Minister Nitanya, who considers Staya and President Abbas to be unreliable partners. They do not want to see They do not imagine that Hamas could be reformed and come in. They want it destroyed. And also the idea that Hamas after October seventh and after this war will be more modern and more reformed, you know, in some ways as counterintuitive. In some ways, what happened on October seventh has been a revival for those who in the Palestine community who believe in armed struggle and who believe in confronting is remlitarily. So, you know, it's a lot of pie in the sky for a lot of people. But so is the Israeli perspective, which is that we're going to destroy Amas and start over with the technocratic leadership that's going to remind us of the UAE. So we have two very contradictory sets of goals and plans, and the US kind of lending a little bit of support to each side, and we'll see where this goes. Yeah, it points to the idea of mediation when you have this kind of massive gap, and this idea that the Palestinian Prime Minister said to you in this interview that the US is working with them on trying to bridge this divide. How invested do you see the US right now and the counteries, even with some of the hostage negotiations that have happened in recent weeks, What is the role of mediation with this kind of massive gap between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Well, let's leave the hostage negotiation and the countries on one side, because that's an immediate need with people whose lives are at stake at this moment, and that's been going on quite intensely. We can talk about it if you like later in terms of a mediation for the day after the war and what's going to be the future of some kind of state of Palestine and what's going to happen in the Holy Land. I mean, there's been mediation from day one, and it has not especially succeeded. You know. I think it's true that right this moment that Palestinian authority and the Israeli government are not in a position to sit down across the table and talk to one another. They have nothing but to contempt for one another, and so some outside help is needed. Now. I think the question is, you know, how much investment is an American government interested in putting in. It's not an easy task. It's not the only thing President Biden has on his agenda, and not just not just internationally but domestically. It's got an election coming up in a year, so it's a little hard to mention. What the United States has done has put together half a dozen people between State, NSC and White House who are talking to the Palestinian authority and the Israelis about this stuff. It's kind of an attempt to lay out a plan so that the day after doesn't come and we got nothing to talk about. We haven't planned anything, but it's a little bit of an act of academic theoretical work, because we don't know when this war will end, or how it will end, or what Gaza will look like. The Prime Minister also talked about Hamasa's presence outside Gaza and the West Bank, Lebanon and elsewhere. Is that a hint that this war could expand beyond Gaza? So I don't think that was his aim, but you're right that it could. I mean, we have his Belah bearing down from the north and from Lebanon on Israel, and there's always that enormous concern. The reason that the United States has sent to battle ship carriers with aircraft carriers to the Mediterranean to send a message to his belah. But I think also the point he was trying to make is that you know, even if you kill everybody who works for Hamas in Gaza, you still have leaders in Katar and in Beirut, so you know, and that it's some from within the fabric of Palestinian society, so that this is an unrealistic goal. We are continuing to learn more about the shooting at UNLV that led to 3 people being killed. Multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed to ABC News the identity of the gunman who opened fire Wednesday at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas as 67-year-old Anthony Polito, a professor who had recently applied for a job at the school. Polito is now dead, what happens next with the investigation. KSL Legal Analyst Greg Skordas joins the discussion.

In 2020, Josh was diagnosed with a rare condition called Sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that often affects the lungs. Determined to persevere and provide hope and inspiration for others, Josh completed his first half marathon in the fall of 2022, and within 36 hours of finishing he set his sights on completing the Atlantic City 70.3 Ironman in 2023.

Frank Anthony Polito is an award-winning author and playwright. He holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon and a BFA in Theatre from Wayne State. Published novels include BAND FAGS! (2008 "Best Fiction" - InsightOut Book Club), DRAMA QUEERS! (2009 Lambda Literary Award), REMEMBERING CHRISTMAS (featuring the sequel to BAND FAGS!), LOST IN THE '90s, and THE SPIRIT OF DETROIT. His plays ANOTHER DAY ON WILLOW ST and BFs! (based on his novel BAND FAGS!) have been produced in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, Omaha, and Annapolis. His other writing has been featured in Instinct magazine and online at The Advocate.com and AfterElton.com. He has also been a regular contributor to the popular New York City lifestyle blog Kenneth in the 212. Frank grew up in the Detroit suburb of Hazel Park. He lived with his partner, actor Craig Bentley, in Brooklyn, NY before returning to Michigan in 2013.
