Aaron and Ryan were gone for a couple of weeks because Aaron and his wife welcomed a new tiny roommate and Ryan moved into a new house. They make their return with the first of a two-part series on online beer rating systems and what they mean for the craft beer industry. In the episode, besides the many tangents the Between the Pints has quickly become known for, they do manage to talk about Untappd, Beer Advocate and Rate Beer and how those sites are a part of a larger crowdsource movement that has changed not only craft beer reviews, but the way many of the things we enjoy for entertainment are critiqued. Basically, the guys try to figure out if these sites are Tools of Knowledge or Tools of Ignorance. Also, Aaron declares that furries are OK and Ryan takes shots at right answers. As always, the guys want to thank Hygge Coworking for the use of the podcast space. Garrett Tichy is the Founder and Owner of Hygge Coworking. A strong advocate for Charlotte, Tichy is well-known for his natural ability to build diverse and inclusive communities of professionals – both online and in-person – who appreciate and thrive on the power of connection to elevate an initiative, a workplace and a city. Before founding Hygge Coworking, Garrett was the owner creative digital marketing agency. This gives him a unique leg-up on applying marketing concepts to local businesses such as coworking spaces. Garrett facilitated a marketing break-out session at a recent industry event and his expertise and perspective drew me in and I accosted him in the hallway and asked him to be a guest on the podcast and help other owners be better marketers. Garrett Tichy is the owner and founder of Hygge Coworking in Charlotte, NC. Garrett's story is one that is familiar to many entrepreneurs: unsatisfied with a comfortable, yet ultimately unfulfilling full time job, Garrett set out on his own to take his future into his own hands. After several years as a manager at Gamestop, Garrett knew that a career change was inevitable. The first step was to get a computer programming degree, which he did at the top of his class. Soon after finding a job in the industry, he decided to take ownership of his work by co-founding Ready at 7, a boutique marketing firm. Not long after that, Garrett made another pivot into the emerging world of coworking. Garrett bought out the co-working studio that Ready at 7 was based out of and turned it into Hygge Coworking. Since founding in 2015, Hygge has expanded to three locations in the Charlotte area, and boasts over 100 full time members. In this episode, Garrett talks about making the transition from full-time employment to small business ownership, the value of social capital, and the benefits of having a CPA take care of the financial footwork.
