Can intentionally focusing for 90 days really change your life? How can you determine what makes you come alive? And what if you feel like you’re in a season - not of hustle or growth - but just survival? Entrepreneur, single mom of three boys, author, and CEO Kristy Dickerson shares her business journey with us as well as why she uses both digital and analog planners. If you’re struggling with where you are in life and need some reassurance, Kristy is the voice you need in your earbuds today. Kristy’s Business Journey Kristy and I met when we were both writers for a business photography magazine. Kristy was a wedding photographer for seven years then began teaching finance, business, and productivity in the wedding photography industry. She met a graphic designer, Jenny, and shared with her that she wanted to write a book. Jenny shared that she wanted to create a planner. They put the two ideas together and created the STARTplanner in May 2015. They were featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, and Inc. magazines. Kristy has been a speaker at Harvard University and The George Washington University. In 2018, she took time off for personal reasons, but her goal for 2019 is to put herself out there by being on more podcasts. Kristy is quick to remind us that her career has been built in layers. She also has found the value is saying “no” when necessary. The energy you have - what it is that makes you tick - needs to be restored. And you have to give yourself time to do that. Planners, Planners, Planners Kristy’s planner comes in Hustle, Fancy Pants, and Bling options. They also recently launched “90 Days of Start,” which is designed for someone who uses a digital calendar or has a long-running to-do list. Analog vs. Digital Planners Kristy uses both types of planner. Here are the benefits as she sees them for the analog planner: You start learning how to plan with a tangible agenda a la elementary school. You can physically check off that you’re done with an item. You have accountability because that “not-done” item stares you in the face. You can visualize the week. How You Find What Fills Your Soul Give yourself space and grace. Give yourself time to figure out what’s going on in your life and make seasonal changes. You may just need to survive right now. Don’t go it alone. Ask your business partner for help. Find a counselor. Check in on your health. How are you doing physically and mentally? Don’t add stressors where you don’t need to. Learn and carry those lessons forward. What helps you rest? Is it going to the gym, being outside, painting, journaling? Key Quotes from the Episode: “Our most valuable asset really is time.” - Kristy Dickerson “With every decision that we make from a time perspective, there’s an opportunity cost on things we could be pouring our hearts and lives into.” - Kristy Dickerson “You may not be in a growth season.” - Kristy Dickerson “Empathy is a great, great teacher.” - Kristy Dickerson “Own that there are days you just need to be.” - Kristy Dickerson “Use resources for inspiration not imitation.” - Kristy Dickerson Connect with Jen and Shamelessly Feminine: Join our Shamelessly Feminine Facebook Group Follow Shamelessly Feminine on Facebook Follow Shamelessly Feminine on Instagram This episode was originally published on shamelesslyfeminine.com/episode54.

The new year is right around the corner, and it's a great time to start something. You may be thinking, ‘well, I've got time… I'll do that later' or ‘oh, I'm super busy right now, I couldn't add another thing to my plate.' I feel ya. I've said those things myself over the years too. But why do we do that? It baffles my mind - we know what we need to do to root in a new, healthier habit. Or to get a new initiative off the ground… but something seems to always stops us. Makes us pump the brakes. Or keeps us from even taking the very first step. What's that about? I wanted to get to the bottom of this and decided to invite a friend and CEO of four brands onto the podcast to talk about what she's learned over the years. My guest, Kristy Dickerson shares how to simply start a new idea, project or initiative as a business owner. In this episode, you will learn: The most important step when starting something new How to overcome the fear, instead of letting it paralyze us from getting something off the ground Why you need to STOP some things in order to make room for something new… Kristy shares the key lessons she's gained over the years as an entrepreneur. PLUS, she shares her personal health story. Finding her health slipping away from her in 2017, Kristy had her implants removed. It's an incredible story. If you've got breast implants and a few inexplicable health problems right now, you'll definitely want to listen through to the end of this episode. As it's the holiday season, we're keeping this episode short and sweet for you. We know you're darting to and fro, so I hope this episode inspires you to get your new business idea or shiny new project off the ground in the coming months. Remember, sometimes all it takes is the courage to keep going and take the very next step. You can do it, I believe in you! #DoTheThing. Kristy Dickerson is a small business speaker and advisor, co-founder of StartPlanner.com, CFO of all things organized, lifestyle photographer, mom of three boys and a wife that is never wrong...never. ;)Upon completion of her degree in finance and business management she started her first business after having her first son in 2008. Merging her business sense with her passions, Kristy has developed ways to help small business owners balance turning passions into a career all while still playing her most important role...being a mom. Giving tips on business, balance, organization, photography, health, and the occasional DIY projects to inspire, direct, and lead others to success and happiness. Mission: It was a fortunate conversation with her graphic designer that sparked the idea for Start Planner. Kristy had aspirations to one day create a book that would help business owners with organization and finances. Her designer, Jenny, had ideas for a planner. They joined forces to put their ideas into one product and Start Planner was born. Mindset: Kristy shared, “I had no business starting another business.” With her 3rd son just being born and already putting her efforts towards another business, Kristy had a lot on her plate. Still, she followed her instincts to create something that felt much bigger than anything she’d ever done. Marketing: If you are launching a physical product, this is a must listen for you. Kristy shares the strategy behind both the grassroots beta launch and the 2016 launch, which was executed on a much larger scale with a national Facebook video ad campaign. Scroll down to see the video. Momentum: Start Planner is still in the launch phase and enjoying plenty of momentum along the way. The 2016 planners have sold out and three new styles for mid-year are being launched now. Be sure to check them out! I
