This episode takes us back to the Lone Star State, specifically, Austin, the capital city. Mike was able to land an interview with Brandon, the manager of Austin Books and Comics. Austin Books and Comics is quite unique. It's more of a conglomeration of multiple geek culture stores. In addition to the main store, there is also Guza Gallery and Outlaw Moon, each specializing in a different part of geek culture. Listen to the interview for details. It's also touted as Central Texas' biggest and longest-running comics and pop culture retailer, helping fans discover their favorite comics since 1977, and has been a Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retail finalist on multiple occasions! Brandon is as knowledgeable and amiable a shop manager as you will ever meet, and it comes through in the conversation. Then join Mike and longtime friend and founding member of the Campus Comics Cast, Matt Martin, as they review The Complete Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. You will find that Matt is one of the most knowledgeable folks you'll ever find on Disney's Duck family! Austin Books and Games is found at 5002 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78751. Follow the shop on all the socials, like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube! Find Matt @wookieecopilot on just about all of the social media platforms you can find. Big thanks to Brandon for his interview and great book recommendation, and thanks to Matt for joining.

PITIFUL PUNKS WITH CHUNKS (RIPPED FROM YOUR BODY)(Pep Love, 2001)for this week's program, my new producer (bottom right corner) had booked special guests Corey Worthington, Fox Alaska news reader Maria Athens and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Unfortunately, there was some confusion over the correct time-zone with Worthington, Athens says she's been detained by Anchorage police ) and as for Christie, well, he's simply not picking up the phone. All in all, I'd say this new booker is a vast improvement on the last one. music submissions : info@12XU.netphysical media : 12XU, 3005 S. In this episode we explore what each of us can do to secure Democratic victories at all levels in November when we can't engage in many of the activities - like canvassing - that we would be doing if not for COVID-19. First, Antoinette and Lucas reminisce about a few beloved Austin institutions that have been forced to close as a result of coronavirus - and more specifically because of the GOP failure on testing - and how this relates to 2020.Next, we take a look at the stakes for Texas in this election, and at why flipping the Texas House is especially important (one reason of many: redistricting). It's also actually possible. As our friends at Flip The Texas House note, Dems only need to flip nine House seats to gain a majority (the same number of currently GOP-led districts that Beto won in 2018).So what can we do today? Antoinette relays advice from a current Democratic campaign staffer about how to get involved in 2020 campaigns during staying-at-home, and Antoinette and Lucas run through a slew of activities all of us can do. Where should you start? Here's what you can do this week:1. If you don't know who represents you in the state legislature and in Congress, find out. If you live in Texas, you can do that here. 2. Choose a campaign to make yours. If you live in a competitive district with multiple competitive races, choose the candidate you're most excited about. If you live in a solidly blue district, consider "adopting" a more competitive race in your vicinity and putting your efforts there. 3. Once you've figured out where to focus your efforts, get in touch with the campaign and sign up for at least one concrete activity you can complete this week. Let us know how it went by emailing ohthisworldpod@gmail.com or tweeting us @OhThisWorldPod. We may not be able to get out of our homes just yet, but we can still get out the vote. Join us! Correction: In our discussion of beloved Austin institutions, Lucas accidentally referred to Threadgill's as being in South Austin, which is incorrect. The original Threadgill's, which closed in the wake of coronavirus, was on N. Lamar Blvd. This episode was recorded on Monday, April 27, 2020.

Shades of Green Celebrates 10 Years on the Air at KOOP Shades of Green has been on the air for over ten years. Our first broadcast was November 8, 2006. We celebrated the event with our past and present hosts and friends in the KOOP studio. Original founding Producer Ken McKenzie Grant and Co-producer John Hoffner with original Co-host Jenny Nazak on the phone from Florida. We reminisced about the fun and interesting shows we have had over the last 10 years starting with the first broadcast from the KMFA studio on Lamar Blvd. We also had former Co-host Christine Giordano (year 2010) in the studio and Debrah Dubay, Co-host from October 2010 - March 2011. EcoCalendar contributor over the 10-years, Howie Richey also joined us to reminisce. We played some of the original pieces that were played over the 10-year period by Howie, Ken, Christine, Amy, John, Stacy, Brandi and Debrah. And, of course our present-day Producer, John Hoffner and Co-hosts Reed Sternberg, Stacy Savage and Amy Stansbury joined in the conversation and memories. Our previous EcoCalendar contributor, Brandi Clark Burton called in all the way from Mexico City where she was attending the C40 Mayors Summit 2016 Conference to help advance urban solutions to climate change . Our 2007 Apprentice Deese Eckstein was busy working for Travis County. We all had fun and hope you enjoy the Podcast.
You’ve probably seen this memorial if you’ve ever driven on Lamar Blvd in Austin. It’s right there, on the pillar holding up the train bridge where Third Street crosses Lamar. It says: “Fair Sailing Tall Boy. Ivan Garth Johnson. Not forgotten. 1971 – 1989. Don’t Drink and Drive, You Might Kill Someone’s Kid.”
