Ken Paxton is back. And that's a good thing for Texas – and America.  During his tenure as the Lone Star State's Attorney General, Mr. Paxton has earned a reputation as arguably the most effective and certainly the most influential conservative AG in the country. In addition to his own aggressive defense of constitutional rights in Texas, thanks to General Paxton's leadership, many of his counterparts in other states have been inspired to join him in cases that have resulted in key Supreme Court and other courts' rulings to that end. Ken Paxton's effective advocacy seems to have had a lot to do with the spectacle of a deeply flawed impeachment by the Texas House of Representatives. Fortunately, on Saturday, the state's Senate acquitted him on all charges.   We need Attorney General Ken Paxton back in business. Thank God he is. This is Frank Gaffney.

Read more about the impeachment: https://thetexan.news/paxton_impeachment/Today, the Senate voted on the 16 impeachment charges leveled against Attorney General Ken Paxton in an effort to convict and remove him from office by the Texas House. Here's a recap:Paxton was acquitted on all 16 articles of impeachment by the Texas Senate. The House Board of Managers needed to convince 21 senators to sustain at least one of the charges. Most of the charges were dismissed by a vote of 14 to 16.After the votes were taken, Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) made a motion to dismiss the four articles of impeachment that were held in abeyance and not considered during the trial. The motion passed.Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has been largely silent since the House impeached Paxton in May, took to the microphone after the vote and lambasted the Texas House for pursuing impeachment. “Millions of taxpayer dollars have been wasted on this impeachment. 31 Senators and a large Senate staff that made this trial possible have put their family life, jobs, and businesses on hold for 3 months after being here already from January to June,” said Patrick.Patrick announced that he would be conducting an audit to determine “all taxpayer money spent by the House from the beginning of their investigation in March to today.”Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) released a statement, “Over the last two weeks, the Texas House Board of Managers provided the Texas Senate and the people of Texas extensive evidence of Ken Paxton's corruption, deception and self-dealing. It is extremely unfortunate that after hearing and evaluating this evidence, the Texas Senate chose not to remove him from office."In a press conference after the proceedings, Rep. Andrew Murr (R-Junction), chairman of the House Board of Managers, was asked if in hindsight he would change the approach the House took in the trial. “I would not do anything differently,” said Murr.Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement commending the trial's proceedings and the jury's verdict, and said he looked forward to working with Paxton again in his role as attorney general.

Read more about the impeachment: https://thetexan.news/paxton_impeachment/Today, suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton's defense team and the House Board of Managers gave their final arguments in the impeachment trial, and senators began their deliberations on the articles of impeachment. Here's a recap:For the first time since the first hours on day one of the trial, Ken Paxton attended the proceedings. He sat between his lawyers and listened to the closing arguments. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick read, at the request of both parties, all the articles of impeachment to the jury of senators prior to the closing arguments. “I have no idea how long the jury is going to deliberate. It could be hours, it could be days,” said Patrick. “Like any defendant, the attorney general is not required to prove he is innocent or produce any evidence at all.”The trial rules allow the House Board of Managers to divide up their hour-long allotment for an opening statement. Rep. Andrew Murr, chairman of the General Investigating Committee that brought the articles to the full Texas House of Representatives, gave a 10-minute opening statement. “Paxton had hired the best and brightest to run his office,” said Murr, looking to reinforce the credibility of the whistleblowers the House Board of Managers called to testify.“The power of the [Office of the Attorney General] cannot and should not be handed over to a private citizen to be used to attack their perceived enemies,” Murr contended, referencing the allegations that Paxton used his office to benefit Austin real estate developer Nate Paul.Tony Buzbee, one of Paxton's lawyers, then spoke for almost an hour, leaving about five minutes for his colleague Dan Cogdell to close. “The Bush era in Texas ends today,” shouted Buzbee from the microphone at the front of the chamber. “We thought it had ended in the primary when Ken Paxton beat George P. Bush 68 to 32.”Buzbee alleged that Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) supported the impeachment because he “got his feelings hurt” and presided over the House chamber while intoxicated.Murr took to the microphone again and presented clips of testimony from the trial — including from whistleblowers like David Maxwell and Jeff Mateer — to combat Buzbee's arguments and reiterate the case made by the House. Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Plano), a member of the House Board of Managers who is from Collin County like the Paxtons, was the final speaker for the House. He said he had considered the attorney general a “brother in Christ,” “political mentor,” and friend. Buzbee objected to Leach's speech, saying he was providing testimony. Leach was allowed to finish.Senators were then dismissed and began their deliberations behind closed doors without access to their phones, news coverage, or media.Sen. Angela Paxton (R-McKinney) is barred from participating in the deliberations or voting on the articles of impeachment.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is now standing trial. This isn't a trial in a normal court system, though. It's an impeachment trial, brought by his own party. His fate will be decided by a jury of 31 senators. The Republican-controlled Texas House of Representatives voted to have him removed from office in a narrow vote of 121 to 123. His accusations include taking bribes, and using his office to help a donor. If he's convicted on any of the 20 articles brought against him, he'll then face a second vote to block him from holding any public office ever again. In other news, the United Nations has a new plan to advance its climate change agenda. It has issued a call for children to sue their country's leaders on climate change. Here to speak with us about this is Alex Newman. He's an award-winning international journalist and Epoch Times contributor. And in other news, COVID-19 is still mutating. The new variant has arrived, just in time for the rollout of a new vaccine, and just in time for election season. And just like the last presidential election, there's a call for the return of COVID mandates. Here to speak with us about it is Dr. Scott Atlas. Are our elected leaders abiding by their oath of office? Do we, as their constituency, trust them? Join us as we discuss the upcoming impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton set to begin on September 5, 2023. Y'all it's a case that's full of drama and cloak and dagger twists and turns! We will be watching and on the edges of our seats to see how it all turns out. In a nutshell, he's charged with abuse of office. This all took center stage when he came before the House in February 2023 to ask for $3.3 million dollars to settle a lawsuit brought against him by former staff members who were whistleblowers. That request launched a secret investigation that led the Texas House to impeach him by a 121-23 vote. Now it's the Texas Senate's turn to hear all the evidence and decide on his guilt or innocence. It's a nail-biter for sure! Subscribe at https://thetexan.news/subscribe/ Texas GOP Chairman Matt Rinaldi, a former member of the Texas House of Representatives, joined The Texan's senior reporter Hayden Sparks to discuss his vocal criticism of the chamber's decision in May to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton. “I've been representing the Republican Party of Texas in what is effectively a declaration of civil war by Republicans in the House, namely House leadership,” said Rinaldi, comparing the leadership of Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) to that of former Speaker Joe Straus. “The members didn't even know [the impeachment vote] was going on until 48 hours before. They were surprised by it. And then, instead of leaving the members to vote, they whipped votes like it was a policy matter. So the way it was handled was extremely top-down.” In addition to discussing his criticisms of the impeachment process, Rinaldi also weighed in on how he believes the Senate should handle the trial, how the votes on impeachment could play a role in the next Republican primary election cycle, and how the division between Republicans on impeachment fits into the broader political battles with Democrats. Enjoy this content? The Real Estate News Brief: Fed Minutes Reveal Rate Hike Clues, Homebuyer Competition Heats Up, Back-to-Office Migration Hits Plateau

In this Real Estate News Brief for the week ending July 8th, 2023... what's on the minds of Fed officials, how homebuyer competition is impacting prices, and what isn't happening with the back-to-office migration.    Hi, I'm Kathy Fettke and this is Real Estate News for Investors. If you like our podcast, please subscribe and leave us a review.   Economic News   We begin with economic news from this past week and the release of the minutes from the central bank's last policy meeting. As you know, members of the Federal Open Market Committee voted unanimously in favor of a pause in rate hikes, but the minutes show that some members were in favor of another 25 point increase. The minutes also noted that the economy has been stronger than expected and that Fed officials don't see a lot of “clear signs” that inflation is headed to their 2% target. (1) Fed Chief Jerome Powell has said that more rate hikes are likely. We'll get two inflation reports in the coming week that will give us a better idea of what's happening with inflation.   The job market also remains strong, although the latest reports show a slight weakening and some economists don't think it's enough to avoid another rate hike. The unemployment report was up 12,000 from the previous week to a two-year high of 248,000 initial claims. But the number of ongoing claims was down 13,000 to 1.72 million. It's the third week in a row that they went down. As MarketWatch reports, the decrease in continuing claims is probably due to laid-off workers finding new jobs quickly, thanks to a strong job market. Although it's great that people are employed, Fed officials feel that it also contributes to wage growth and inflation, which they are trying to control. (2)   The Labor Department also reported that job openings fell below the 10 million mark in May, which is another sign that the labor market is cooling slightly. (3) And companies only added 209,000 jobs in June. That's the smallest number of new jobs since 2020, but the unemployment rate also fell from 3.7% to 3.6%. Average hourly pay is also up about 4.4% on an annual basis. (4) Most of the new jobs are for education, health, and the government, but construction jobs are also among the industries contributing to labor market growth.   Mortgage Rates   Mortgage rates are defying gravity and slowly creeping higher. Freddie Mac says the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.81%, but Mortgage News Daily says it hit 7% this last week. Freddie's chief economist Sam Khater blames the high rates on the strong economy, sticky inflation, the Fed's rate hikes, and of course, a persistent low inventory of homes. (5) (6)   In other news making headlines…   Homes Selling Above Asking Price One Again   Homes are selling above their asking price for the first time in almost a year. Redfin says the average sale-to-list price ratio hit 100.1% for the four weeks that ended on July 2nd. The report says low inventory is the main reason for the higher sales price. (7)   Redfin says that new listings are down 25% from a year ago, and the total number of homes for sale is down 12%. There's no lack of demand however. Redfin says that requests for home tours and other services are up 4% compared to a month earlier.   Agent Jeremy Lewis out of Portland, Oregon,  says: “Almost every home is getting multiple offers and selling over asking price. The lack of supply is making it feel almost like 2021 all over again.” Although he says the bidding wars are happening at a lower price point because buyers are getting squeezed by higher mortgage rates.   Return to the Office Hit a Plateau at 50%   Companies trying to get employees back in the office have hit a plateau. According to security company Kastle Systems, U.S. office workers are back in their offices about 50% of the time. The national average was actually a little less than that at 49.8% in late June. Kastle analyzes office usage in 10 U.S. metros. That's up from about 40% last year but the number hasn't changed much since the beginning of this year. (8)   Some companies are cracking down on employees to get them into the office. Citigroup is reportedly threatening employees with “consequences” if they don't conform to the hybrid schedule. That's usually three days a week. Google is also warning employees that office attendance will be part of their performance review.    Texas Lawmakers Approve Huge Cut in Property Taxes!   In breaking news out of Texas – State lawmakers are making it a whole lot more affordable to own property with the largest property tax cut in state history! It's not quite a done deal yet, but the Texas House and Senate have agreed to an $18 billion dollar package to reduce property taxes. $12 billion will go toward a reduction in the school property tax for all homeowners and businesses. It also includes a $100,000 homestead exemption and a 20% limit on appraisal growth for non-homesteaded properties worth at least $5 million.   According to Houston Public Media, state lawmakers expect to pass the bill by the end of the week, and Governor Greg Abbott is looking forward to signing it when it reaches his desk.   The news is a big win for our North Dallas Rental Fund where we are buying single-family rentals for our fund investors. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: If you ever doubted how the legacy media thinks of you as ignorant rubes ripe for manipulation, look no further than a set of near-propaganda stories on A.G. Ken Paxton and the impeachment cesspool Texas House members threw us into in a fit over a budget request. I discuss the following: Paxton's Lawyer Says Suspended Attorney General Will Not ‘Dignify' Impeachment Trial by Testifying. – a straight up story with no bias ‘Outside' report? Law firm that wrote it to defend Ken Paxton was paid $500K by Texas AG. – It has always been known and was never hidden in anyway that the outside law firm's report was commissioned and paid for the the Office of Attorney General. This is standard practice across the board. Embattled Texas AG Paxton secretly went on China junket against advice of staff, docs show. And?! So what, what business is it of staff? That's where all this stuff began – with staff that thought they were the elected boss and not the actual boss. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has purposefully made every decision with one goal in mind: protecting the civil liberties of those in underrepresented communities. As a public defender, civil rights attorney, State Representative, and United States Congresswoman, Jasmine Crockett dedicates her life to public service, with the goal of serving justice and ensuring equality for all.  In the midst of political turmoil, economic distress, and racial inequality, Congresswoman Crockett laced up her shoes to march for justice and run for the Texas House of Representatives. The sole Black freshman and youngest Black lawmaker in Texas during the 87th Legislative Session, Congresswoman Crockett navigated what has been marked as the most conservative session in Texas history. Despite the uphill climb, Congresswoman Crockett filed more bills than any other freshman, assembled a wide coalition to pass landmark criminal justice reforms in the House, and brought more accessibility and accountability to her office than before. She was a founding member of both the Texas Progressive Caucus as well as the Texas Caucus on Climate, Energy, and the Environment. As State Representative, she fought for economic opportunity as a member of the Business & Industry Committee, and advocated for reform on the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. Congresswoman Crockett was one of the lead architects of the 2021 Texas House Quorum Break, which brought attention to the draconian and restrictive voting measures being proposed in the legislature. Her passion for justice and the protection of peoples' rights led her to pursue a career as a public defender, and civil rights and criminal defense attorney. She focused on defending our most vulnerable among us from exploitation in the criminal justice system. As she began her career in the Bowie County Public Defender's Office, Congresswoman Crockett worked tirelessly to keep children safe and out of jail. Her time there serves as a reminder that criminal justice is an insurrectional issue. Following her service in the Texas Legislature, Congresswoman Crockett accepted the call, and won the election for retiring Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson's congressional seat in Texas' 30th District. Following her election, she hit the ground running and won a seat at the Leadership table as Freshman Leadership Representative, a position she will use to advocate for all Texans. As Freshman Leadership Representative, she is one of a few Black women ever elected to Democratic House Leadership. In Congress, Congresswoman Crockett hopes to continue to build on the legacy of Chairwoman Johnson, and will fight to expand access to healthcare, voting rights, economic opportunity, and dignity for all. She will fight to protect Medicare, Social Security, and expand critical social safety net programs. She will continue to be a tireless advocate for civil liberties, immigrant rights, and economic equity for women and the diverse communities across the State of Texas. Congresswoman Crockett earned her B.A. in Business Administration from Rhodes College and her J.D. from the University of Houston. She is licensed to practice law in Texas, Arkansas, and Federal Courts. Crockett is the past Bowie County Democratic Party Chair, held various leadership positions within the legal community, is a former board member of the Dallas County Metrocare Services, and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. As a Congresswoman for all Texans, she's looking forward to continuing our fight and ushering in the next generation of servant leadership in the halls of Congress and Washington, D.C.

Today, we're joined by Riley Gaines to talk about her decision to speak out against men competing in women's sports. Her story started when she tied with Lia (Will) Thomas in the NCAA Women's Swimming Championships and saw the trophy given to Thomas rather than her for the photo op. She covers the traumatizing experience of having to change with a man in the women's locker room and how blindsided and betrayed she and the other swimmers felt. We discuss the backlash and harassment she's faced for standing up for women in sports, including being held hostage after a speech at San Francisco State University. Riley issues a challenge to female athletes and offers some advice to parents. Then, she joins us again for a special announcement. --- Timecodes: (00:54) Intro & Monday encouragement (13:23) Background on Riley (17:15) Deciding to fight sports injustice (19:36) Will Thomas & denying truth (30:55) Family response to Riley's competition (34:35) Calling on girls to boycott (40:03) Title IX (44:20) Riley's announcement --- Today's Sponsors: Naturally It's Clean — visit https://naturallyitsclean.com/allie and use promo code "ALLIE" to receive 15% off your order.
