Buffy S7 E17 "Lies My Parents Told Me"/Gilmore Girls S7 E17 "Gilmore Girls Only"Whether via road trip to visit an old mother figure, or a trip down mommy lane brought on by a magic slug, everyone's confronting their mama drama. Principal Wood deals with his by redecorating his garage and donning some freaky fighting gloves, while Richard concerningly dresses up like one of his mom's old lovers. As Lorelai struggles with the idea of Rory leaving home soon, Spike's mom worries her limp son will never. Both Lorelai and Spike recite terrible poems. Both shows feature recast characters. Plus Bryan reveals way too much about his mom's eggs.Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! We've got mommy issues, we've got daddy issues, and we've got A LOT OF BULLSHIT! In flashbacks, Spike wants to bring his mom on vacation with Drusilla (lol) and tiny, adorable Robin knocks over a trash can to assist his slayer-mom Nikki. “It’s almost like this sort of metaphor for womanhood, isn’t it? This sort of flowering that happens when a girl realizes that she’s part of a fertile heritage stretching back to Eve…”   Author and philosophy professor James Rocha is back in the graveyard with me again to discuss three more episodes of this, the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In “Potential,” Buffy (the character and maybe the show?) get the details of Slayer ascension wrong yet again, and Xander shows us how Speechifying(™) is supposed to work. “The Killer in Me” gives us a sadly truncated version of what, in my not-so-humble opinion, the entire season should have been about, and hey, I don’t hate Kennedy like the rest of y’all do. Who’s surprised? Lastly, “First Date” asks cutting edge questions like, “Why the hell doesn’t Principal Wood know who Spike is?” and “How does Wood stare at Spike in the rearview mirror of his car and not notice he’s a vampire?”   As a bonus, James schools me on the difference between Existentialism and Essentialism.   Next: You know her, you love her, Elizabeth Rambo is back again, this time to hold my hand as we try to make it through episodes 715, “Get It Done,” 716, “Storyteller,” and 717, “Lies My Parents Told Me.”     THE BREAKDOWN Run Time: 01:59:30 00:00:55  -  Intro / Guest 00:07:13  -  Main Topic 01:54:50  -  Outro / Next     THE LIBRARY Joss Whedon, Anarchist? This week’s story is by Nisha Coleman, and was told at April 2014’s Lies My Parents Told Me. Big Damn Heroes has hit episode 57, and man is this one a doozie. Over on our one episode of Buffy, relationships fall further apart, we get a good dose of childhood trauma, a strong dose of creepy via incestuous overtones, and exactly why a character's mother was cast the way she was. Over on Angel, things just keep heading straight to Hell as a certain character stops even pretending to be anything but EEEEVIL, a favorite character shows up for a few episodes, and the last crossover between the two shows (if a bit weird timeline-wise) happens. Join Will and Hannah for Buffy's "Lies My Parents Told Me," and Angel's "Salvage," "Release," and "Orpheus." PS: We're due to be finished with Buffy by the new year!
