On this special episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with executive producer and showrunner Latoya Morgan and lead actress Rachel Hilson about DUSTER, the new TV series from JJ Abrams and Latoya Morgan now streaming on HBO Max. Set in the 1970s Southwest, the show follows the first black female FBI agent as she takes on a crime syndicate by teaming up with a gutsy getaway driver. I'm an FBI consultant on the show. DUSTER also stars Josh Holloway as the getaway driver Jim Ellis and Keith David as the boss of the crime syndicate. After my conversations with LaToya and Rachel, I talk briefly about my role on the show as an FBI consultant and the significance of accurate portrayals of the FBI in books, TV, and movies, a major theme of my mission. Open Forum: Pastor Amos introduced a new Faith in Action discipleship group starting in June and meeting on Mondays from 7:30–9 PM EST. He also announced a focus on building joyful marriages on Sundays, following his previous teachings on divorce and remarriage. The group engaged in a heartfelt discussion about navigating friendships affected by differing beliefs, especially concerning same-sex unions. Jovanna and Doyin shared personal experiences of strained relationships, while Pastor Amos encouraged maintaining biblical convictions without legitimizing sin, yet keeping the door open for reconciliation. The conversation shifted to social media, where Doyin and Tyesha raised concerns about the imbalance in addressing women's versus men's accountability. Pastor Amos explained his intentional strategy of alternating focus and how social media algorithms often favor controversial topics involving women. Transparency before marriage was emphasized, with Pastor Amos urging individuals to disclose their full past early in dating to prevent future marital issues. The emotional impact of past relationships on men was discussed, highlighting the need for open communication. The group also explored healing generational patterns, prayer and intimacy in dating, and the theology of marriage as a covenant. LaToya shared reflections on marriage rooted in biblical love and sacrifice. Partner with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/partner Connect with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com
Open Forum: Pastor Amos led a multifaceted discussion covering ministry development, fasting, obedience, and spiritual growth. He announced the upcoming Ministry Accelerator event on June 21st for those with ministerial callings and shared that the Open Forum time has moved to 9 PM EST on Wednesdays. Arlene requested prayer regarding a potential business opportunity, and Pastor Amos offered guidance on discerning God's will. The group also explored fasting as a spiritual discipline rather than a mandate, with Alicia, Nehemie, and others expressing a desire to grow in prayer and study. Nehemie and Stephanie raised questions about obedience, tithing, and giving, which Pastor Amos addressed by emphasizing listening to the Holy Spirit and giving from the heart. LaToya and Pastor Amos underscored the importance of believers personally understanding Scripture and how Christianity empowers women through service. The conversation concluded with a reflection on marriage, emphasizing unconditional love and mutual service, and a group prayer for Curtis, who is recovering from a stroke. Welcome to the Sustainable Clinical Medicine Podcast! In this compelling episode, Dr. Sarah Smith sits down with Dr. La Toya Luces-Sampson—known as Dr. Toya—to discuss her transformative journey through medicine, from her beginnings in Trinidad and Tobago to her training as an OB/GYN in the US, and ultimately her bold decision to step away from clinical practice. Dr. Toya candidly opens up about her experiences with burnout in residency and corporate medicine, the toll it took on her personal well-being, and the moments that sparked real change in her career and life. She shares how a leap into entrepreneurship during the COVID-19 pandemic rekindled her confidence and purpose beyond clinical work, eventually inspiring her to become a coach for physician moms navigating medicine and motherhood. Dr. Toya reveals practical tools she used for efficiency, like templates and support systems, and emphasizes the importance of advocacy, boundaries, and accepting support—whether at work or at home. Tune in for an honest, inspiring conversation about resilience, redefining success in medicine, and the power of community and self-compassion in building a sustainable clinical career. Here are 3 key takeaways from this episode: Support Matters at Work and Home: Whether advocating for yourself in a tough clinical environment or building a support system at home, allowing yourself to be supported is crucial. As Dr. La Toya shared, “We have worked so hard to get where we are. Allow yourself to be supported.” Efficiency and Boundaries Fight Burnout: La Toya emphasized the power of systems, templates, and boundaries, both in patient care and personal life. Tackling the inbox right away, leveraging dictation and templates, and having clear work/home boundaries helped her stay efficient—and sane. Burnout Isn't the End—It's a Call to Innovate:Experiencing burnout multiple times gave Dr. La Toya new perspectives and fueled her pivot into entrepreneurship and coaching. She now empowers physician moms to carve their own pathways—inside or outside medicine: “They can stay in medicine if that's what they want. They can leave medicine if that's what they want. They can find their balance.” Dr. La Toya Luces-Sampson Bio: Dr. La Toya Luces-Sampson aka Dr. Toya, is a wife, mother, board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, perinatal mental health specialist, and Coach. She helps Physician Moms thrive in medicine and motherhood without complete self-sacrifice. With over a decade of experience in women's health, Dr. Toya empowers physician moms through private and group coaching and her podcast, ✨Stethoscopes and Strollers✨ a space where physician moms can feel a little more seen and a lot less alone. -------------- Would you like to view a transcript of this episode? Latoya Nelson is back with Annie Friday to follow up on the conversation they had last fall on the topic of the need for public school spaces and the need for spaces that can be supportive to families with varying needs. Latoya shares more personally on her own family's experience fighting for the care, education, and resources for her neurodivergent child. School choice has become a political issue full of buzz words and jargon when really public education is often missing the mark on actually supporting the needs of young people and their families in the narrow conversation. Annie and Latoya both recognize that this is a nuanced topic and far more difficult to get into than a 30-minute podcast could cover in full. We will continue to explore the radical re-visioning of the public education system. Thanks for listening! In January 2014, a strange article appeared in the Indianapolis Star about Latoya Ammons, an Indiana single mother of three who claimed that for more than a year, she and her children were besieged by demons in their rented home. Ammons claimed, among other things, that the house was constantly infested with black flies, the children were levitated from their beds, and her nine-year-son became possessed and walked up a wall backwards. And that was only the beginning; by the end of just one year in the house, the Ammons family claim they were terrorized by all manner of supernatural assaults, from ghostly apparitions to demonic entities. Latoya Ammons' story might well have gone unnoticed, had it not been for the surprising number of witnesses to the paranormal events, from family and friends to police officers and social workers. Still, Latoya was not without her critics or skeptics—some accused her of fabricating the story to get out of her lease, while others assumed she was simply delusional. Regardless of the explanation for the cause of the events, there's no denying that Latoya Ammons story is one of the most terrifying paranormal experiences heard in decades.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesBiddle, Kenny. 2018.
