What makes a good mentor? And what should you do to be a good mentee? In our final episode of Level Up, we'll answer these questions and talk about how to get started with your own mentorship relationship. We're joined by Lucy Lloyd, Co-founder of Mentorloop, which is an online matchmaking site for mentoring relationships. She shares the lessons she's learned from observing hundreds of mentorship relationships in action. In an interesting twist, however, we learn that Lucy's own relationship with her mentor isn't the formal relationship you might expect from someone who runs a business focused on mentoring. Sure, Lucy and her mentor Aaron Wallis guide each other through some tricky business challenges, but they also like to enjoy a few cheeky wines along the way. Learn about mentoring virtually. For the past two years, we have operated a mentoring program at Women Offshore, called the Mentorship. This program virtually connects both mentors and mentees, and is designed for women anywhere in the world who have experience or currently work on the water in the maritime or offshore oil and gas industries. Cadets are especially welcome! Our application is currently open and will close Friday, July 24th. Interested in learning more? Visit WomenOffshore.org.The platform we use is a software by a company called Mentorloop. They want you to "imagine a world where every person had access to that life-changing connection; a mentor who they could lean on, learn from, and rely on." Mentorloop believes that this vision could make for a better world to live in, so they created a software for mentoring to be more accessible.Mentorloop was founded by two women, Lucy Lloyd and Heidi Holmes, who came from the tech industry. They have grown their company with a team of individuals who have witnessed and experienced the impact of great mentoring and who want to make this impact available to more people through a combination of technology and mentoring best practices.Today, hear from a Mentorloop co-founder and the CEO, Lucy Lloyd. Running strategy for leading global brands for over 10 years, Lucy has managed the development of hundreds of digital campaigns, websites, apps and SaaS products. In 2016 Lucy parlayed this experience into co-founding Mentorloop, a software platform helping organisations build a scalable mentoring culture. On this episode of the Women Offshore Podcast, Lucy shares why mentoring virtually works, what makes for a good mentoring relationship, her insight as to why it is important to mentor women, and so much more.Support the show (https://womenoffshore.shop/products/donation)
How do you turn a side-hustle into B2B SaaS platform for mentoring? Start a business with one of your old school friends, make sure you have complimentary skills, build an MVP, raise some capital, get some clients, get several VC's to invest - how hard can it be? Why mentoring? Mentoring can be a transformation tool for a business, and for people. After all, we all have something to learn and something to teach. We learnt a lot from Heidi and Lucy.
When you’re working on any new enterprise, starting a new career, or looking to move up in the world, you might find yourself wondering where you can go to get advice from people who have been there before. My guests for Episode 5 of The Startup Playbook Hustle are Heidi Holmes and Lucy Lloyd, the co-founders of Mentorloop. Heidi and Lucy have been friends for over 20 years, initially meeting at school before initially heading down different career paths. Prior to Mentorloop, Heidi was the Managing Director of Adage, an online jobs board that was acquired by OneShift in early 2015, whereas Lucy spent several years with tech and development agencies before reconnecting and discussing the initial idea for Mentorloop over a glass of wine. That idea turned into a Mentorloop, which provides mentoring software that enables businesses to match their people into effective mentorships at any scale. Mentorloop was recently accepted into and went through the highly competitive Startmate accelerator program and announced a partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee. The success and growth of Mentorloop has allowed them to raise $1M of funding from a number of investors including Blackbird Ventures, Rampersand and Tempus Partners.
