Richard Jeffares' journey from craft beer enthusiast to gluten-free brewery pioneer is a tale of passion, resilience, and innovation. Diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 2015, Jeffares faced the stark reality of a gluten-free diet, stripping him of the craft beer diversity he cherished in Australia. This seemed to mark the end of his craft beer adventures with friends, until a 2017 American road trip unveiled a surprising discovery: breweries producing gluten-free beer that rivalled, and sometimes surpassed, traditional offerings. Motivated by this revelation, Jeffares founded TWØBAYS Brewing Co in 2018, revolutionising the gluten-free beer scene in Australia. TWØBAYS now offers a wide range of delicious, gluten-free craft beers, accessible nationwide in bottle shops, venues, and at its dedicated Mornington Peninsula Brewery. We chat about all things brewing and the impact that Gluten Free Beer is having on the market as it is offered at major sporting arenas, including the MCG and complements menus in many fine dining establishments to ensure that all guests are catered for and included.
November's episode is hitting you guys pretty late, but here it is. In honor of the most important thing happening in December, the release of Star Wars Episode IX, we decided to watch a couple of #StarWars inspired pieces of crap. First on the chopping block was the 1978 #SpaghettiSciFi, StarCrashh, starring none other than the David Hasselhoff. We get into the weeds about why Michael doesn't like "Star Wars" yet Reuben loves it, although we do agree that Spaceballs is incredible. We talk about the life and times of Rick Moranis, Reuben's recent trip to the states to celebrate Elan and Maya from Jersey City's wedding, and while on that trip he was a guest on these two podcasts: the Average Joe Comic Show and the Black Aaron Broadcast. Both of which are far better shows than this one and well worth your time. It was also on this trip that Reuben really began to over eat when he ate an entire pizza at The Star Tavern. Reuben reminisced of his time spent at anime conventions in his 20s. We remarked on how much people abroad would appreciate the #Australiancraftbeer scene with the likes of amazing brewers such as Moon Dog Craft Brewery, La Sirène Brewing, Hargreaves Hill Brewery, Mornington Peninsula Brewery, and Dainton Beer. While on his trip to the States, Reuben was able to visit The Bruery with his cousin Barry and girlfriend Alvi from LA. Mike also professed his love of Family Guy and his growing appreciation for winter. We also discovered what that whole U.S. Surgeon General stuff is all about on American beers which led to a conversation about the sad state of affairs in the American political system. Many friends of the show were mentioned on this episode most notably are Jonny from Philly and Cassten's Mum for their donations to our Patreon. We also shout out Thuy's great dessert cooking, Thy's confusion as to why we watch such terrible movies, Uri from Boston and her trip with Mike and Reuben to MR WEST - Bar & Bottle Shop, and Reuben's folks, Milinda and Noel from Boston/New Jersey and of course our friends over at the American Good Beer Bad Movie Night. Beers were purchased from the Thirsty Cafe & Bar, Mr. West, and Bruery Terreux and are the following: (We tried to go sci-fi themed again) - Hop Nation American Red Ale - Thunder Road Hopstar XPA - Kaiju Robohop Golden IPA - Left Handed Giant Beam of Light Wheat IPA - The Bruery Trade Winds Belgian Style Golden Ale - The Bruery Wit the Funk

Well, we’ve started the year well with two podcasts in two weeks and it’s a great one…if we say so ourselves. This week we interrupt Pete’s holiday to get his thoughts on the Ballarat Beer Festival, before quickly speaking with Brent Wright, National Beer Systems Manager for XXXX and find out a little about their new beer. Regular listeners might be a little surprised that we are doing a segment on XXXX Summer Cloudy Ginger Beer but, in addition to being a conversation, beer is a broad church. The discussion looks at the new beer, how it’s made and some of the techniques brewers use to make beers targeted at the largest part of the beer market. Finally, we catch up with Andrew ‘AG’ Gow, brewer at Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula Brewery. We have a wide ranging discussion about his career, his experiences at a variety of craft breweries and his current role at the recently established Mornington Peninsula Brewery. We finish the show with what must surely be one of the greatest renditions of Beer Barrrel Polka ever, by Grady Martin and his Slewfoot Five. It simply has everything. May sure you listen to the end to rock out with this little number. For show notes and links - including to purchase Beer Barrel Polka - visit www.brewsnews.com.au

Matt Bebe started the Mornington Peninsula Brewery 12-months ago and is already two years ahead of his sales targets. What a nice place to be! But when you see what Matt and his business partners have created, it's not a huge surprise. More than a brewery and some craft beer brands, they've created a real experience - albeit, one located on Industrial 3 zoned land, with no passing foot traffic, in the back blocks of the Melbourne beach-side suburb of Mornington.
