Original Release Date: Monday 6 April 2026 Description: In his final show from his current trip to the East Coast, Phil regales with thoughts of Easter and tales of cherry blossoms. Dean explains why he did not see Project Hail Mary. An email from a friend of the show leads to further discussion of the 1978 sci-fi cheese-fest Starcrash and to the entire concept of “guilty pleasures” getting analyzed. An email from another good friend of the show causes Phil and Dean to go deep into dead actors taking roles away for living ones and into the exact role Doja Cat played in denying Timothee Chalamet a Best Actor Oscar. Then, Dean and Phil turn their attention to the big show biz news of the weekend: the Writers Guild of America striking an unexpected deal with the AMPTP, and the latest headlines to come out of the Justin Baldoni-Blake Lively lawsuit. Finally, the proceedings wrap up with your friends in podcasting sharing personal recollections of the 31st greatest movie theatre in the world right now according to Time Out.

Why it continues to inspire, how it captures our imagination, and what it truly means to dedicate your life to storytelling. Along the way, he shares honest advice for aspiring filmmakers and creatives trying to find their voice in an ever-changing industry. This is a conversation about passion, persistence, and the power of film to transport us somewhere else entirely. For more of my content - CLICK HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast-horror-movie-podcast--4295531/support.
Original Release Date: Monday 30 March 2026 Description: Phil is in the nation's capital, and reveals that he really doesn't understand much about weather at all. Dean is in Birmingham, Michigan, where the ongoing airport delays prevented him from participating in this weekend's “No Kings” protests. Phil shares with Dean the favorite signs he saw while protesting with his in-laws! Last week, Dean and Phil discussed the 107 year-old Santa Monica Airport, soon to close operations for good and set to become public parkland. Phil regales Dean with tales of one very famous and beloved movie filmed there. This leads to a discussion about built sets that were too big for any studio soundstage to hold. After that, three very disparate, and somewhat unusual, films get analyzed: the recent Japan-set Rental Family starring Brendan Fraser, the 1978 sci-fi schlock movie Starcrash (featuring Christopher Plummer!) and the 2025 faith-based historical fiction family film Sarah's Oil. Finally, Dean and Phil do more exploring in the Time Out list of the 100 Greatest Movie Theaters in the World RIGHT NOW. Oh, and a belated Happy National Respect Your Cat Day to all who celebrate!
Welcome to Episode 60 of Astronomy Daily Season Five! In today's episode, Anna and Avery cover six major stories from the world of space and astronomy — including a neutron star collision in an unprecedented location, the latest Artemis II news, and a cosmic mystery solved after decades. Stories covered in this episode: 1. NASA Discovers Neutron Star Crash in Unexpected Location A fleet of NASA telescopes — including Chandra, Fermi, Swift, and Hubble — has detected a neutron star merger inside a tiny galaxy buried in a vast stream of gas, 4.7 billion light-years away. It's the first time this type of collision has been spotted in such an environment, and it may explain why gamma-ray bursts sometimes appear outside any galaxy — and how precious metals like gold and platinum ended up in distant stellar regions. Published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters. 2. Artemis II Flight Readiness Review NASA will host a Flight Readiness Review press conference on Thursday 12 March at Kennedy Space Center, covering progress toward the first crewed Artemis mission. The rocket is currently back in the Vehicle Assembly Building following a helium issue, with rollout to the launchpad expected around 19 March and a launch target of no earlier than 1 April 2026. 3. Firefly Alpha 'Stairway to Seven' Scrubbed Again Firefly Aerospace's Alpha rocket — attempting its return to flight after a 10-month grounding — has been scrubbed three times in 10 days. The latest scrub occurred on 10 March during fluid loading after off-nominal readings. A new launch date will be confirmed following engineering review. This mission is the final Block I Alpha flight, with the upgraded Block II debuting on Flight 8. 4. DART Mission Reveals 'Cosmic Snowball Fight' Between Asteroids Researchers at the University of Maryland have found the first direct visual proof of material transfer between two asteroids — fan-shaped streaks on the surface of asteroid moon Dimorphos, left by debris thrown off its parent asteroid Didymos at just 30.7 cm/s. The discovery provides visual confirmation of the YORP effect and has implications for planetary defence modelling. ESA's Hera mission arrives at Didymos in December 2026. Published in The Planetary Science Journal. 5. Starship Flight 12 — About Four Weeks Away SpaceX is approximately four weeks from the launch of Starship Flight 12, which will be the first flight of the upgraded V3 configuration — the most powerful version of the already record-breaking vehicle. Engineers have completed propellant system tests on Ship 39 at Starbase, Texas, and preflight preparations are continuing. 6. Giant Cosmic Sheet Discovered Around the Milky Way Astronomers from the University of Groningen, publishing in Nature Astronomy, have used advanced computer simulations to discover that the matter surrounding our Local Group is arranged in a vast, flat sheet — dominated by dark matter — stretching tens of millions of light-years across. This structure, flanked by enormous empty voids, explains why nearby galaxies are moving away from us rather than being pulled inward. It's the first detailed map of dark matter distribution in our cosmic neighbourhood. Astronomy Daily is part of the Bitesz.com Podcast Network. ¡Verano alternativo!

Its another best forgot film from the 70's. This week we discuss the Star Wars knock off Starcrash!
From the dawn of time, man has been fascinated by the stars and what — or more importantly, who — is out there. Unsurprisingly, from the dawn of filmmaking, Hollywood has been also been fascinated by visiting (and visitors from) other worlds. One of the earliest silent films, A Trip to the Moon, was about shooting astronauts to the moon (using a cannon) and the alien creatures they find. There are countless movies about aliens and here are four I think you should watch.Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)Roy Neary's life is turned upside-down after having a close encounter with a UFO. After being tormented by visions and a need to know more, Roy meets others experiencing the same thing and travels to Devil's Tower in Wyoming where Roy, the government, and the aliens all arrive for a monumental concert. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, and Melinda Dillion, Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of the greatest films about alien encounters ever made. A must watch, no matter what planet you're from.Starcrash (1978)Hot on the heels of 1977's Star Wars came a wave of films “influenced” by George Lucas's masterpiece. In Starcrash, a smuggler and her alien sidekick go on a mission to rescue a prince from an evil character with a gigantic space weapon that can destroy planets. Sound familiar? Did I mention the alien sidekick uses a lightsaber? Perhaps “influenced” is too light of a word. Starcrash is not the best space opera of all time, but it's an interesting time capsule from 1978; one of many movies that also took place in a galaxy far, far away. Starcrash features great sets, a goofy plot… and David Hasselhoff. The Last Starfighter (1984)Alex Rogan wants nothing more than to escape his small town and that opportunity presents itself after he beats the world record on an arcade game called The Last Starfighter. The arcade game is actually a recruiting tool, and before long a shifty alien named Centauri arrives to take Alex to space where he will become a Starfighter — for real! Featuring (then) groundbreaking CGI, lots of alien action, and the final theatrical performance of Robert Preston.Naked Space/Spaceship/The Creature Wasn't Nice (1981)No matter what name you see this movie under, they're all the same… and none of them are good! This “horror/comedy” that loosely parodies Alien stars Leslie Nielson, Cindy Williams, Gerrit Graham, Patrick Macnee, and (writer/director) Bruce Kimmel. After exploring a newly discovered planet, the crew of the Spaceship Vertigo bring a small organism (goo) on board that quickly grows into a large monster. When Dr. Stark figures out a way to connect the monster's brain to the ship's computer, they are able for the first time to hear the monster's thoughts. And boy, is that monster hungry…Movies about aliens and outer space are always fun summer viewing. Rent one of these films and pop an extra bucket of popcorn, just in case someone from “out there” stops by to join you. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! Movie reviews #51 seven today so let's go 1. Airport 1970. This one started them all. To me it's just a less funny movie than airplane movie, but still funny. You don't get the icky pedophile jokes, but you do get asshat men who live to cheat and cheat to live, this had a nice rad woman surprise that I am quite grateful for. Airport stars Helen Hayes!!!! 2. Scarecrow 1972. Many many 70's films are based on plays, this one basically just filmed a play. Great Black Metal premise here with a story by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Scarlet letter guy. Blythe Danner, and Gene Wilder are here, and there's a witch too. 3. Earthquake 1974. Heston is here, this movie was not great. I had fun with friends, a lot actually. Heston is a shit but the Star Crash guy takes on bullies, and flippin Shaft is a rad stunt cyclist. 4. The Little prince 1974. This one's trippy and fun, and we get our 2nd Gene Wilder appearance in this batch. You also get jazz hands Bob Fosse himself here as the snake. I always get this movie confused with the Gumby episode The Small Planets, and wonder where the screaming clay piano boy is. 5. Girlfriends 1978. Claudia Weill is our director here, in a coming of age film that should be more popular than it is, shrug emoji. We get the sole survivor woman from that trippy movie I love called Sole Survivor. Lots of great actors here including the guy who wrote Stonehenge. 6. Sergeant Matlovich vs. the U.S. AirForce. This gets added to our list of super amazing made for TV movies of the 70's, also Matlovich was real and fierce AF. Brad Dourif plays Leonard Mattlovich, and you can watch him and his mustache in this gem on you tube. A must see for those interested in Queer history. 7. …And your name is Jonah 1979. Intense TV Movie about a misdiagnosed Jonah, he is deaf and the shitty times and an even shittier Teacher and Dad make it flippin hell for this poor kiddo. Important to show where we were and where we should be with this country's Ableism. Sally Struthers is here along with the asshat Dad played by asshat James Woods. Thanks fer listening friends. Please oh please give us stars and a review, thank you.
Topics discussed include our latest accompanying whiskey, yet another manifestation of the Magical Negro, movies that get dads to cry, Cash's alignment is called into question, nostalgia for pre-9/11 airport security, the apparent intense bone-ability of Jack, the lack of clear thinking at the airport, Téa Leoni's shower scene, the relative lack of crazy-Cage in FM, comparison with The Good Place (with light spoilers), Jack's life is actually pretty good prior to the glimpse, speculation about the dimensional or time-travel issues involved with the glimpse, Cage's bad Boston accent, Nicky's outfit and hairstyle as a callback to Cage's infamous 1990 talk show appearance, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, some obligatory ribbing of M. Night Shyamalan, a nihilistic callback to Pig, speculation about drinking a beer underwater, parallel with Ex Machina, amazing Cage/ Pascal chemistry, Cage making out with Nicky, our three favorite movies, always trusting our shamanic instincts as thespians, the cruel end of the glimpse, the absurdity of being “trapped” in marriage to a Hollywood actress, parallels between FM and a Hallmark movie, a bleak interpretation of the end of FM, a quick PKD reference, being haunted by a lost alternate past, not one but TWO Nick Cage Queries, and our future date with Paddington 2.
Devin & James are back in the Den, and are go for launch! As we return to our Tour of Italy, this time the action will take us right into the stratosphere with ITALIAN SCIENCE FICTION! We start with the doomed visitors to Mario Bava's PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, a still underappreciated film that inspired a generation of Sci-Fi writers and directors. We then swing into more action with the utterly bizarre, early body horror, Antonio Margheriti's WILD, WILD PLANET (it's wild enough to deserve it twice in the title). Then we take off for a galaxy far, far away-ish with Luigi Cozzi's Star Wars wannabe, STARCRASH. Finally, we follow up with more Luigi Cozzi with the (occasionally) explosive CONTAMINATION. Strap in, folks... this is gonna be a messy ride.

The exploitation world of Star Wars rip-offs: you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. This week, we're joined by part-time Dark Lord of the Sith, Walter Kafka, to check out Starcrash (1978), directed by Luigi Cozzi, and The Man Who Saved the World - better known these days as Turkish Star Wars (1982), directed by Çetin İnanç. In all honesty, we don't think it's possible to spoil these two slices of psychedelic sci-fi wonderment, so there will be no Spoiler Territory this week. Buckle in for intergalactic David Hasselhoff hair, Caroline Munro in a vinyl bikini, diabolical Joe Spinell in a giant clawship and some absolutely mindbending insanity from the otherworldly desertscape of Cappadocia, Turkey. Steven is also working on a new translation of the original Yor - the Hunter From the Future comics, so there is plenty to discuss! If you want to follow Steven Ross and find out more about these projects you can find him on Twitter and Instagram. We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Italian comics or your memories of seeing Starcrash or Yor for the first time. In this episode, we go back up to Oshkosh, where another crash has occurred during the massive AirVenture event. This time, a Diamond Twin Star aircraft was making its approach when the left wing and main gear impacted the runway. The plane ended up overshooting the runway and coming to rest in the grass. Nobody was injured during the incident thankfully. Follow Amy Tango Charlie on X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/atoocpodcast

Vampire's Kiss (1988) “You're in the goddamn crapper, Loew, and I'm trying to take a dump. So either shut up and leave the acting lessons for home or go back to the ladies' room.” Is it a deft American Psycho-level satire, a taut supernatural or psychological thriller, or insane, ridiculous crap? That's the question facing our Distinguished Professors as they discuss the 1988 Nicolas Cage meme-fest Vampire's Kiss. Let's see if they find an answer. Topics discussed include gratuitous displays of alphabet-yelling, Cage's love for this movie and role, Loew as a Renfield, a plug for proper hydration, the mystery of the imaginary (?) psychiatrist, Renfield's a bug-eating simp, a plan for the holiday special that we don't follow, a digression into the literary origins of vampires, late-80s hair and fashion, musing on whether Cage's antics fit this movie, the role of ambiguity here, parallels with Joker, Loew's awful Philadelphian accent, weird camera shots, the fake dialogue with Jackie on the way back to Loew's apartment, Loew's gradual descent into madness and how this movie takes its time, Alva as the center of both the movie's corporate satire and its cruelty, the ambiguity of the murder, weird comedic moments, a possible fourth wall break, the roach-eating scene, Nosferatu playing in the background, the violent mimes and veering into the territory of the art film, Loew's façade of culture, vampire practice, “BOO HOO!”-ing, Cage's physical acting, a cheap postcard to New York, Loew's prior scumbag behavior, and the state of contemporary art in the 1980s. Plus, look: soup!
This week, Patches and Da7e have been left alone again, so they invite returning guest Jordan Hoffman back onto the show for a free-form discussion about recasting Gilligan's Island, Starcrash and torrent ethics, Unfrosted again, cereals (and hot cereals), Blue Angels and Deep Sky in IMAX, solar flares and go bags, Kingdom of the Planet […]

Roden and Thunder do some star crashing.
What would it look like if a high school theater group made their own space-adventure production? What if that group had the assistance of the stop-motion animation experts who produced Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1946 or the California Raisins Christmas in 1986? How about if it were scientifically-necessary that space flight suits consisted of extremely low-cut bikinis and thigh-high leather boots? Well, in that case, you'd probably end up with something like Starcrash, a not-well-done space odyssey that walked the fine line of not being good enough to be good, but also not being bad enough to be good. This one managed to not really register much of a reaction out of either of the guys. It wasn't unwatchable, so check it out if you like. As Brandon's mom would say, it was fine. Starcrash Final Grade: Steve found this to be a low-quality offering, but not one to strictly avoid, which would put it in the second quintile of the movies featured in this podcast. 2 of 5 Brandon was taken in by some sort of quaint charm he found in this movie, and thinks it's at least a mid-tier kind of thing since he didn't perceive the people who made this movie to be condescending pricks who think they are better than him, unlike the Quentin Depieux. 2/3 out of 5. Cocktail of the Week: Unnamed Cocktail Brandon Made Up 2 oz Spice Rum 2 oz Strawberry Smoothie thing from the produce department 1 oz Aperol 1/2 oz Simple Syrup 1/2 oz Lime Juice Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and strain into a rocks glass. Place a hollowed out disc of an orange peel on top, fill it with the highest proof rum you can find, and light it ablaze. Garnish with a couple cherries. A pretty-standard rum and fruit juice drink. Tastes like fruit. An imminently-drinkable mix. Maybe even good enough for a name sometime. Viva The Hoff! Escucha el episodio completo en la app de iVoox, o descubre todo el catálogo de iVoox Originals
Today we're venturing into the B-movie vault to tackle what may well be my favorite Star Wars ripoff in Luigi Cozzi's wildly entertaining Starcrash! This one's got Joe Spinell as a Darth Vader wannabe, Christopher Plummer as the Emperor, The Hoff in one of his earliest roles, and the inimitable Caroline Munro traversing space in a bikini years before Leia would don one on Jabba's barge! This one is a stone cold cult classic. And who better to join us for a discussion of low budget sci-fi cinema of the past than our Canadian correspondent, Geoff Clarke? All that, plus we're giving our initial impressions of Ahsoka! May the Varda be with you!
Lee, Leah, and their friend and fellow podcaster Gary Hill travel through the cosmos this episode as they check out Luigi Cozzi's "Starcrash" (1978), a fun Italian "Star Wars" rip-off starring Caroline Munro, Marjoe Gortner, Joe Spinell, David Hasselhoff, and Christopher Plummer (!). Sexy costumes, big hair, clunky stop-motion, the lava lamp of death, a hillbilly robot cop, and handy magical powers out of nowhere are just some of things touched upon, as well as listener comments, and what the hosts have watched as of late.
