ROYAL ALBERT were the first club in Scottish football history to score a spotkick. But last week they were unhappy about a penalty of a different kind. The Lanarkshire-based outfit were hit with a £500 fine and docked three points for fielding an ineligible player. They admitted they had made a mistake – but an honest one too. The punishment saw club secretary Peter Higgins take to social media to outline just what it meant to a club that is one of the oldest in Scotland. This week Peter joins us on the show and tells us why the decision left him close to walking away after over 30 years at the club. He also explains why he believes clubs who stray should be treated differently, particularly as clubs deal with the effects of covid. Royal Albert were named after a boat in 1878 – but Peter tells us why he was never keen to steer the ship away from the juniors and into the West of Scotland League. We also look back at how it all started for Peter, who is one of those many guys football at this level just needs. All that plus, in a new slot, we look back at last weekend's lower league scores from north to south and west to east with Tayport's head of communications Pete McEleny. THE first ever West of Scotland League season finally got up and running on the weekend. But Dalry Thistle have become the 15th side to withdraw – after their opening game of the season was rained off. That's left Conference C a side down – but with us we have a manager from that section whose side certainly started on the up. Lanark United are seen as one of the favourites to finish top of the pile. But Jamie Nesbitt's Thorniewod United produced one of the performances of the weekend with a 3-0 win at Moor Park. Jamie joins us on the show this week. We'll discuss that impressive victory – and look forward to their next game against Glasgow Perthshire as well as some of the other main fixtures this weekend. With no relegation and promotion this season, we'll find out just where the priorities lie at Robertson Park. We'll look back at Jamie's outstanding spell at Royal Albert, which saw the club win their first title in almost 90 years - and why getting five in a motor was a key part of that success. Plus there's why he didn't make the most of his playing days - and why he won't make the same mistake as a boss. There's all that and more as we go Down The Divisions. My guest this week is Sarah Stephenson, a highly experienced vocal coach, teacher, accompanist and sound healer.    A fascinating journey of a musician who has found a deeper healing power within sound itself - using sound as a healing tool.  Learn how the sound we make, our vibrations, our energy, how increasing our awareness of our sound, can help bring us into alignment, to be present in the here and now.  We really are fascinating human beings!  It is worth your time to tune in, especially now,  in our modern times, which are so uncertain for many, with covid-19 having had such a global impact on the human race, now more than ever, we could all start with tuning in and paying attention to how we can use our voices for good. Two quotes from this episode:  (Sarah on - how we can help ourselves with our voices) “..express how you are feeling…start the day by (asking) how am I feeling? I am just going to key into it…and just start doing some sounding.  You may feel a bit silly to begin with but then just express how you're feeling and then come back, do a bit of humming, simple toning, little vowel practices.   See how that kind of feels in the nervous system, in the body, how that calms everything down” (Sarah on - the voice) “Wow…what an incredible instrument, what an incredible machine, what an incredible form of expression…it's the most human part of who we are.” Five minutes in we briefly reference the Fibonacci sequence.  This is so worth a look! Amazing Resonance Experiment! Today we welcome back to the show Kevin Gascoyne, of Montreal's Camellia Sinensis Tea House, to chat with us in depth about how our choices of teaware impact the flavors, aromas and overall experience of the teas we drink. Kevin is often seen sporting his signature Royal Albert teacup, and that prompted us to ask Kevin what's the deal with this oh-so-English-looking cup. His initial answer inspired us to want to explore more fully how our choice of cup and brewing vessel affect our enjoyment of tea. In our chat we focus mostly on the effects of the cup on our tea experience (though we also touch on some elements of teapots). Kevin talks with us about how the shape of the cup controls the delivery of the tea to the mouth and the placement of the tea on the tongue, how the material, size and shape of the cup affect the thermodynamics of the tea, and how all of this impacts the flavors and aromas of the tea we're drinking. We chat about some of the design features of teacups that have evolved for comfort, warmth and delivery, and also how the visual elements and aesthetics of our teaware influence our enjoyment of tea. Contrasting tea served in wine glasses and in small tasting cups as examples, Kevin points out how different styles of teaware and brewing create different moods and spaces for our experience of tea.  We wanted to do these comparisons hands-on, so Kevin served us two teas in very different styles of cups: first with teaware from the Royal Albert collection, and then from the innovative Peter Ting tasting kit. Listen to the episode to hear the results of this tasting experiment. Some interviews come and go, while others are 20 some odd years in the making. This, dear listener, is the latter. Chris Hannah of Propagandhi is someone Damian first hoped to interview for his (never released) zine in 1996, but alas he was too chicken shit and thus waited until now to do so. Sit back and enjoy one of the few things in life that was worth the wait (to Damian at least) and have your faith in Punk rejuvenated. Also touched on: -“I had heard punk bands, but I hadn’t heard Million Of Dead Cops” -Turning from a potential military weirdo into a different sort of weirdo -Busy Fingers: Portage Le Praires’ one stop Sewing and Speed Metal Records shop -Cops liking MDC -Ramones not having enough rage. -Cross-Over: Crumbsuckers, DRI, COC -Punk just feeling different -Missing the Cro Mags Bootleg at Wellingtons recording show by one day -Corpus Vile test press buddies!!!!!!! -Your mom refusing to drive you to see Venom and Slayer -Stretch Marks -Canadian Punk ROCK -Crown Of Thorns: The Ex-LOWLIFE band that could have been Winnipeg's Metallica -Dangerously Americanized Canadians -Article Life -Global Genocide “Facts Of War” tape is amazing! -Beach Mutants rule!!! -Damian putting Chris in his place about the release date of their first demo -Ten Tepes O’Conner Records -Punk nicknames -Crawl and Ditch Pigs: Pre Propagandhi -Apologies for the double 7” -The influence of Bad Religion -Looking to Guilt Parade, “Canada’s Dead Kennedys" as inspiration -Still being a work in progress ideologically -Staying at the Royal Albert -First Propagandhi show with Immortal Possession -Ground/Top Floor Fugazi fandom -Propagandhi/Sockeye connection -The BFGs and the origins of Ska Sucks -Feeling horribly let down by Bad Brains and Don’t Blow No Bubbles -Playing with NoFX -TONY’ ERBA!!!!!!! -Playing with Jawbreaker -Not getting Fat Mike’s role as producer: “what the fuck are you doing in here -The greatness of Crate Amps -Bad Religion: Ramones meets Motorhead -NoFX: same formula as Bad Religion but with a little RKL -Being far more excited by basement hardcore scene then the Skate/ Snowboarder video scene -Going to see Fail-safe in Toronto in 1986 -“More Rock, Less Talk” still being a statement of intent -Hating the vocals on How To Clean A Everything -The Left For Dead beef -So Much More!

This week's episode features guest host John Kendle, former editor of Uptown magazine. It's a really good listen -- pretty heavy on old war stories about the Royal Albert and Winnipeg's scene back in the mid-1980s. Of course, all of this ties in (somehow) with this week's randomly-generated theme, "Chicago." Despite Uptown's format change, John's still involved in the music journalism thing and occasionally interviews touring acts at the WFP News Cafe these days. Also, if you listen to this week's intro, there's a clip from an episode of Australia's Reaction Podcast (a podcast that reviews other podcasts) discussing our episode #15. Pretty cool.

Normally this podcast is exclusively limited to Tell the Band to Go Home, but this is a show you just have to hear. It's an episode of my "other" show, Steel Belted Free Range Radio, which airs Thursday nights 6:30 - 8:00 pm central. I'm joined on that show by my good friends KK and T-Bar, and every once in a while, we are joined by a very special musical guest. This week, however, we topped them all. We were joined live by perhaps one of the greatest songwriters on the planet, all the way from Australia, Mr. Paul Kelly. He and nephew Dan Kelly were in town to promote Paul's great new album Stolen Apples with a show at the Royal Albert, but they were gracious enough to stop by the studio first to chat and play a couple of songs.
