Rhett Palmer and David Hunter “The David Hunter Perspective”With surprise guest "Locally  Grown" expert Jim FiniRetired US Diplomat David Hunter served in South Korea (1992-96), India (1996-99), Ukraine (1999-2000), Pakistan (2001-02) and Spain (2003-04).  In 1983 he was a Visiting Fellow at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS),  Johns Hopkins University.  He published a book in 1991 "Western Trade Pressure on the Soviet Union. He holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics , an MBA from the Crummer School, and a BA from Emory University. Today's Agenda...1)  Burma:  There was martial law imposed last week in Burma ( now called Myramar).  The democratically-elected government had won the latest elections w/ 80% of the vote, so the military got mad and decided to overthrow them.  Now millions of Burmese people are demonstrating for restoration of democracy.   What will happen next? Note: David recommends seeing the 1995 docudrama Beyond Rangoon  to better understand what is going on in Burma today.2)  Russia-EU relations: Russia has expelled three European diplomats.  This happened when a top level EU official was visiting Russia.  Putin expelled the three because they attended marches demanding the release of Alexi Navalny, the Russian opposition figure just arrested on his return to Russia from Germany.  Will Europe start getting tough on Putin?3)  Iran Nuclear Deal:  Will Biden rejoin the Iran Nuclear Deal, the JCPOA?  Iran's government demands that US first drop all trade and economic sanctions on Iran  before Iran will re-commit to the deal.  Biden  team says Iran has to act first.  What do you think?4) Iran, Russia and China: If the JCPOA allows for weapons sales to Iran, will Russia and China offer this?  Why should the US object---don't we sell weapons all over the world? C.J. This episode was originally released on October 7th, 2019. === If you've been watching Oban Star-Racers and thinking, 'Gee, this show is pretty great, but it could use more children in bar fights,' episode four is here to scratch your itch. Molly and Jordan throw down with Grooor, by this point firmly established as the Yosemite Sam of space. Aikka also gets involved, but only after getting crunk at eight a.m. so he can tolerate being around those dirty poors. At least that's what David says. Oh, and there's also a race or something. === As we said in the episode, you should come join us at our Discord! https://discord.gg/Y7Yxhn9  Note: David's audio cut out briefly at the beginning of the recording, so we had to wait for him to come back. David tries to relate to his teenage guest and teenage temporary co-host, so this episode is lit and groovy and chumber in all the right ways. (Note: David also hopes "chumber" is actually a word he made up for the bit, and not a real slang word that turns out to be some sort of racial slur, but he also can't be bothered to Google it so...fingers crossed) Relevant hashtags: #ArchieBoy #Positivity #GuitarBar #Torn #KidzBop #GrittySpiderMan Follow Today's Guest: @6stringshred on IG www.andrewwholf.com Your Successful Hosts: David Andrew Laws -- IG: @davidnotandrew Megan Greener -- IG: @instagreener1 Next week’s guest: Sylvana Joyce, of Sylvana Joyce and The Moment (www.sjandthemoment.com) Support us, by supporting our host network DimlyWit Productions. Or, How to Ruin #CawlidgeHawkey in Four Short Years When our guest this week, David Goodwin, was being recruited, the Pegula Ice Arena hadn't even broken ground; by the time he graduated as a senior captain, the Penn State men's ice hockey team were Big Ten champions. The guys enjoyed a great conversation with David about his Penn State journey: The less-familiar path traveled by college hockey prospects and the unique advantages of being a 21-year-old freshman, buying into the vision of Penn State's new hockey program and the process of making it a reality, memories from his time in Happy Valley and the experience of playing professionally after college in Europe. Note: David, a St. Louis native, is naturally a big Blues fan, and as we recorded, the outcome of Game 7 was still TBD. Congrats to the Goodwin family and St. Louis fans everywhere. Was it the skill and “grit” of the players that finally put them over the top, or was Mike the Mailman's Blues t-shirt that was real good luck charm? We may never truly know. Disposable Relationships?

We live in a world that treats relationships as though they were disposable. The Bible teaches us something different. It teaches us restoration. -----------------------   MORE From Pastor Tom: 24Today.org TomWhitesel.com 24TODAY PODCAST FACEBOOK 24Today YouTube Interviews   SHOW NOTES:   David did some awful things, yet was know as a man after God’s own heart.    Note: David was the king of Israel.   You and I have the tendency to "keep score". And when we look at Davids life, it seems as though his “score” was pretty low. So we say… how could a man with so many bad grades be “after God’s heart”?   We believe that if our moral score card looks good and we have not been sinning as much… then God would naturally think that we are a person “after His own heart."   It is true that how we live is a response to what is going on in our heart.   Yet, “a man after God’s own heart” is a statement of God saying… "regardless of behavior, this is a person who really does LOVE me. I know without a doubt that they long to have a good relationship with me and they really are trying to love me and get things together.”   David truly did love God.    Psalm 70:2 - May those who want to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.  (NIV version of The Bible)   Note: It was common in that day for a king to have many enemies. There were always people who were wanting to kill the king so that they could become king.   Key ideas of Psalm 70:2) May they be put to shame (feel bad about what they are planning) May they feel confusion (maybe this isn’t such a good idea) May they turn back (BE TURNED BACK TO WHAT?)   Psalm 70:3 - May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” turn back because of their shame. (NIV version of The Bible)   “Aha! Aha!” meant… “May you go to H _ _ _"! Literally in the Hebrew culture of that day… "May you go to a very warm place; may you boil in oil!”   May they be turned back to relationship with David and be restored to friendship with him. May that relationship be restored.   I think that he is talking about people that knew him and loved him but now have turned on him. But David is hoping that the hearts of these people would soften. He was desiring that they could become friends again.   This is the tender side of David. The part that God was speaking of when He refers to David as "a man after God’s heart.”   David wasn't willing to write off the relationship. He was asking God to do something in their heart. He was praying that God would help them feel guilt and shame so that it would lead to restoration of a relationship.   Is there someone in your life who has hurt you, harmed you? Maybe they have even said… “may you go to a very warm place!”   A person who is in a love relationship with God is a person who says… “God, I am asking you to help their heart to change. No so I can prove I was right. But so that they might turn back to me. I am already turning to them. I want this relationship to be right again.”   Our prayer should not be: “God get them.” But it should be: “God change them."

Note: David has a few moments in this episode where his audio suddenly cuts out. I think I've fixed most of them, but let me know if you catch any more and I can see what I can do about them! This episode was supposed to be a dramatic reading of Ben and Mary's old Code Lyoko crack fic. And it was! But then we decided we don't want to be associated with the thing anymore. We've grown up a lot in the past five years and we're no longer comfortable with many of the jokes that we once found hilarious. So instead of a whole lot of cringe, get ready for... well, a whole lot of cringe. But now it's about Smash Bros. To make up for the lack of fanfic, we're opening up an extra hefty mailbag! For the first time in possibly ever, the Super Nuclear group disagrees about the content of an episode! Is it the greatest thing ever, or just pretty darn great? Do the surprisingly off-model designs undercut the shipping possibilities? Come listen to your favorite trio of childish dingbats argue about cartoons for an hour and a half! The Homestuck references have never come at you faster. Plus, an important public service announcement in the first few minutes of the episode! NOTE: David's computer crashed at about the half-hour mark of this episode. We /think/ we were able to recover all the audio, but if any of Mary and Ben's conversations around that point don't make sense it's because David's bit may be missing.  === Questions? Comments?
