Welcome to a vintage episode of the Brand X Podcast! Originally broadcast on May 18, 2016, this episode is packed with classic storytelling, candid conversations, and a dose of nostalgia. Hosts John Jamingo and Deuce kick things off with a look back at their week – including John's fun guest stint on another comedy podcast. This week, the guys get real about quitting jobs, tough boss decisions, and the complicated etiquette around giving notice – complete with personal tales from both sides of the employer-employee divide. They reminisce about the childhood thrill of chasing down the Mr. Softee ice cream truck, funny mailbox mishaps, and how those carefree days compare to raising children today. The conversation then takes a thought-provoking turn into the world of bullying—then versus now—as John and Deuce discuss old-school playground justice, the changing definition of bullying, and a new approach in Wisconsin that aims to hold parents accountable for their kids' bad behavior.Rounding out the episode is a lively discussion on the quirks of American politics, with theories about the Clintons, presidential primaries, and a few wild news stories—including Yoko Ono's surprising claim about Hillary Clinton. Along the way, they keep things light with sidebar stories, plenty of laughs, and genuine rapport that shows why Brand X is a listener favorite.Settle in for a trip down memory lane, some serious talk, and plenty of laughs as the Brand X crew brings you their unfiltered take on everything from quitting jobs to ice cream memories, bullying, and beyond.- [00:00:05] Introduction and vintage episode setup - [00:00:32] Banter about Seattle weather and Three is Comedy Podcast - [00:01:43] News of the week and podcast recording stories - [00:02:08] Nephew's dilemma about quitting a job without notice - [00:03:40] Employer/employee relationships and quitting etiquette - [00:05:10] Younger employees' attitudes toward work and references - [00:09:33] Managing employees and firing experiences - [00:09:58] Mr. Softee topic: Jingle composer's passing and ice cream truck memories - [00:13:13] Childhood ice cream stories and mailbox prank - [00:16:24] Mailman's reaction to melted banana split prank - [00:18:26] Discussion: Wisconsin fining parents for kids' bullying - [00:20:33] Bullying definitions and changes over time - [00:21:50] Is there an upside to bullying? Episode 365: On a humid August morning in 1873, the quiet, tight-knit community of Baker's Settlement outside of Bridgewater in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, was shattered by a crime so shocking that it would echo for generations. This is the story of Mary Ann Frauzel Mailman—a woman described by her contemporaries as strikingly beautiful, and by all accounts, a devoted mother—whose life ended violently at the hands of her husband, Peter Mailman. The murder and its aftermath would become one of the most infamous cases in the province's history, both for its brutality and for the chilling window it offered into the darkness that can lurk behind closed doors. Mo News visited the White House this week to get perspective on the Trump agenda 60 days into the administration from DOGE to immigration to tariffs to their “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. We interviewed several top officials during our trip. This episode will include two conversations. First, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. joined us just hours after announcing sweeping cuts to his department—slashing the workforce by thousands. Kennedy argues the agency (which includes the CDC, FDA, NIH, and others) has grown bloated under Biden and says fewer administrators will actually make it more effective. Kennedy also opened up about his crackdown on soda in food stamps, his baby formula initiative, and where the president has drawn a line when it comes to MAHA. In a wide-ranging conversation, Kennedy laid out his plan to reshape HHS—and why he believes doing “more with less” will improve care. Second, we present our conversation with May Mailman, a senior policy strategist and Deputy Assistant to the President. She discussed what makes the second Trump term different, from the whirlwind pace, to the pre-planned executive orders and how aggressive implementation have reshaped the administration's early impact. We get into the administration's controversial border deportation strategy, including the legal battle over deporting alleged gang members to El Salvador using a law from 1798. Beyond that, Mailman also opens up about working with Elon Musk on the administration's Doge initiative to cut government waste, explaining why his “outsider” mindset—paired with insider legal expertise—is making changes she once thought were impossible. We also explore how those aggressive early cuts are being refined to avoid what some call indiscriminate slashing. Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. He has 20 years of experience at networks including Fox News, Bloomberg Television and CBS News, where he was the executive producer of the CBS Evening News and launched the network's 24 hour news channel. He founded the @mosheh Instagram news account in 2020 and the Mo News podcast and newsletter in 2022. Jill Wagner (@jillrwagner) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. She's currently the Managing Editor of the Mo News newsletter and previously worked as a reporter for CBS News, Cheddar News, and News 12. She also co-founded the Need2Know newsletter, and has made it a goal to drop a Seinfeld reference into every Mo News podcast.

Thank you to Democracy Defender-supporter Melissa for the question that produced this week's Q&A Bonus show! Be sure to subscribe at Patreon.com/Gaslit to submit your questions, get all shows ad free, and hear the full bonus episode! Why is DeJoy still in charge? Well, it all comes down to numbers—specifically, the ones the Democrats don't have yet. The USPS Board of Governors is still short of the votes needed to remove Louis DeJoy. There's a glimmer of hope on the horizon with Biden's nominations of former Florida Rep. Val Demings and former Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, but they need to get through Senate confirmation first. Even if that happens, the entire Democratic bloc on the board has to agree to boot DeJoy. And here's the kicker: they'll also need an Independent to back them. Now, about that Independent, Amber McReynolds: she was appointed by Biden. But, plot twist—this Biden appointee has gone on record saying the USPS is doing just fine. So yeah, not exactly a slam dunk for Team “Fire DeJoy.” This is how corruption is allowed to fester—DeJoy stays, he enriches his family through shady deals, and the USPS, along with its overworked staff, remains on the chopping block. It's the Reaganomics playbook: shrink government services, weaken unions, and let privatization sweep in to pick at the bones. All while the people who depend on these services are left with empty mailboxes and a dysfunctional system. Welcome to DeJoy's America! This week's bonus show includes a fiery continuation of Gaslit Nation's interview with Elie Mystal, Justice Correspondent for The Nation and author of the bestselling book Allow Me to Retort A Black Guy's Guide to the Constitution.
