Precious Gifts - Philippians 1:29-30 James 1:17 – “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” Never in a million years would we consider suffering to be a gift, yet this, among other things, is exactly what Paul states. PHILIPPIANS 1:27-30 What has the Father of heavenly lights given us? Gifts (v.29) “been granted” o The same root word from which we get “Grace” Why did He give them? (v.29) “for the sake of Christ” o By definition, He alone receives glory. Remember: In the giving, God gets the glory; in our receiving, God gets the glory. Three Precious Gifts that Bring God Glory 1. Gift of Salvation Brings God Glory (v.29) o We did nothing to earn salvation Isaiah 64:6 Romans 3; Ephesians 2:3 Ephesians 2:8-9 o Salvation is to God's glory and results in our joy! Romans 14:17 Don't be distracted this Christmas by that which is here today and gone tomorrow! God rest ye merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born upon this day, To save us all from Satan's power When we were gone astray: O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy. 2. Gift of Suffering Brings God Glory (v.29) o 2 Corinthians 11; Hebrews 11 o Matthew 5:10-12 o Suffering does several things: Confirms our salvation • John 16:33 • 2 Timothy 3:12 Purifies us • Romans 5; James 1; Job 13:15 3. Gift of Company Brings God Glory (v.30) o Suffering Bonds the Saints Together Hebrews 13:3 Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas All others doth deface: O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy. o Suffering Permits Us to Share in the Suffering of Christ Philippians 3:10 • “know” = experientially “If we were suffering for ourselves, it would be no privilege, but because we are suffering for and with Christ, it is a high and holy honor. After all, He suffered for us, and a willingness to suffer for Him is the very least we can do to show our love and gratitude.” ~Warren Wiersbe Application o Romans 12:14 Bless • Luke 6:27-36 Do not Curse o Job 13:15 o Hebrews 11:1

And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, “Set on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.” 39 One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew, not knowing what they were. 40 And they poured out some for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the stew, they cried out, “O man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it. 41 He said, “Then bring flour.” And he threw it into the pot and said, “Pour some out for the men, that they may eat.” And there was no harm in the pot. 42 A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, “Give to the men, that they may eat.” 43 But his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred men?” So he repeated, “Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the Lord, ‘They shall eat and have some left.'” 44 So he set it before them. And they ate and had some left, according to the word of the Lord.

Ki Seitzei: Tefillah Purifies the Body
Preston Perry joins us today and we're taking a deep dive into relearning emotional safety after trauma, why grief is a gift to receive, how therapy has become trendy (but not automatically effective), and why suffering purifies and strengthens us. Preston has such a unique take on life. Growing up, the streets of Chicago were his home, and it was there that he encountered all sorts of people who had their own versions of the truth. That's where Preston discovered not only the importance of the truth but how to tell the truth in a way that speaks to someone's heart and leads them to freedom and transformation. "Confused" is a word many would use to describe their understanding of the Holy Spirit. However, the Holy Spirit doesn't need to be confusing. Using the definition of the Trinity, along with how the Spirit Empowers, Purifies, Reveals, and Unifies, we can know well the third person of the trinity. And in knowing Him well we can be obedient to His calling. The Trinity = God is one in being and three in person.Being = that which makes you WHAT you are.Person = that which makes you WHO you are.• Think less about the ‘What', and more about the Work of the Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit Empowers Life Physical Life - Job 34:14-15Spiritual Life - Romans 8:11Our Life - Acts 1:8The Holy Spirit Purifies Hearts1 Corinthians 6:11The Holy Spirit Reveals TruthGalatians 5:16Ephesians 1:17-18The Holy Spirit Unifies AllWhat would the Holy Spirit have you do?Need Prayer?

Scripture and Tradition -- Fr JM. Dedicated to the defeat of spiritual tyranny - ¡Viva Cristo Rey!
By God's wonderful design, much good is brought out of the distress and confusion caused by heresies which rear up and repeat in the life of the Church. Confronting these lies with the reality revealed by Christ, heresy serves to purify doctrine, so that the splendour of truth shines ever more brightly against the deepening backdrop of darkness. Though heresy is painful to confront, the lasting result is a stronger, more mature Church. Many believe we first learn about Jesus in Matthew's nativity story. But Messianic prophecies are central to the Book of Isaiah, when the Lord promises to one day bring a comforting king. His peaceful reign stands in stark contrast to the oppressive dictators of that era. Those rulers promoted sin and idolatry, leading numerous Jews away from God. Isaiah urges them to repent and avoid God's corrective measures, all while reassuring them that His mercy is available to all. Come join Horizon at the Equipping Services as we learn about Isaiah's Comforter and the enduring truths of grace and peace.
When God moves among His people, He transforms them into a holy people who love each other and help the hurting and struggling. What should we do as God's people when we fall short of that calling? Join us as we see from Nehemiah 5, how God purifies us to love and show mercy to each other just as He does to us.Support the show
Many of the great saints, including Saint Faustina, experienced an interior darkness in their relationship with God. This is quite a mysterious experience. As a soul grows intimately close to God there are numerous consolations and feelings of love along the way. However, there comes a point on the spiritual journey when God hides Himself. This is not on account of any sin on the part of the person; rather, it's God's way of entering much deeper into the person's life so as to sustain them without the help of emotional or even spiritual consolation. The soul is plunged into a darkness that can be quite painful. But in this darkness, the person is invited to know God with a new silence and surrender. The communication it receives on this new level is beyond words and beyond human experience. There is a knowledge of God and His Divine Will, but not an experience of Him. The soul is invited through this darkness to choose God and His Will despite the absence of any feelings or spiritual consolations (See Diary #1235).Most likely your prayer life has not brought you to this experience of darkness. But even though few enter into this level of communion with God, it's good to be aware of it and to understand the experience that the great saints had. Knowing that this is the path of holiness will allow you to set aside desires to feel the love of God in exchange for a desire for God Himself. God is not a feeling; He is a Trinity of Divine Persons. Seek to love Him no matter what you feel and your relationship will grow deeper than you could ever imagine.Lord, at times I do not understand Your perfect love for me. When I feel close to You I am so very grateful for this experience. However, I pray that you give me the grace to love You even when I do not sense Your presence. Please purify my faith, dear Lord. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: www.divinemercy.lifeCopyright © 2023 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.
