With weather starting to warm up farmers are thinking about the upcoming planting season. One of the top questions ahead of planting is whether a field should be tilled or cultivated or not. Francisco Arriaga a soil science specialist with UW-Extension says that whenever possible do not till. Choosing not to till allows nutrients to stay within the soil to better this year's crop while also decreasing erosion. He does say that if there are wet spots in a field that tilling in those spots can help dry the soil for planting and can be beneficial if the rest of the field is ready to be planted. Tilling can also be helpful if there is a large problem with weeds within the field. Arriaga also gives insight into the best practices for a field if planting season gets pushed late due to wet weather.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

El cómic español sigue deslumbrando en el mundo. La aseveración vuelve a ser confirmada tras anunciarse que España será país invitado del Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême 2025, en Francia, la cita más importante del cómic en Europa. Tomando el relevo de Canadá como focus country, la presencia española en el certamen será coordinada por el Ministerio de Cultura de la mano de Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), con el objetivo de apuntalar la apuesta del Gobierno de España por impulsar este sector, siguiendo la línea de iniciativas ya en marcha como el Día del Cómic y del Tebeo, el grupo de trabajo en la Mesa del Libro o las próximas ayudas específicas. Para rubricar la invitación, se ha firmado en la sede del Ministerio de Cultura un acuerdo entre el ministro de Cultura de España, Ernest Urtasun, el presidente de Acción Cultural Española, José Andrés Torres Mora, y el delegado general de SARL9eART+, la empresa francesa encargada de la organización del Festival International de la Bande Dessinée de Angoulême, Franck Bondoux. Tras componer más de trescientas canciones durante su adolescencia mientras compaginaba su primer trabajo como locutor de los 40 Principales de la Cadena SER en Bilbao. Allí conoció y entrevistó a otros jóvenes cantautores que, como él, hacían canciones a mediados de los 90 y estos le recomendaron irse a Madrid a mostrarlas en el mítico Café Libertad 8. Tontxu lo dejó todo. Y con una mochila llena de camisetas y la guitarra que Borrajo le regaló se fue a Madrid a cumplir su sueño y mostrar sus melodías al resto del mundo. Ese mismo año fue nominado en la categoría de Mejor Autor Revelación en los Premios de la Música

In recent years, dozens of counties in North Carolina have partnered with federal law enforcement in the criminalization of immigration--what many have dubbed "crimmigration." Southern border enforcement still monopolizes the national immigration debate, but immigration enforcement has become common within the United States as well. While Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations are a major part of American immigration enforcement, Felicia Arriaga maintains that ICE relies on an already well-established system--the use of local law enforcement and local governments to identify, incarcerate, and deport undocumented immigrants. In Behind Crimmigration: ICE, Law Enforcement, and Resistance in America (UNC Press, 2023), Arriaga contends that the long-term partnership between local sheriffs and immigration law enforcement in places like North Carolina has created a form of racialized social control of the Latinx community. Arriaga uses data from five county sheriff's offices and their governing bodies to trace the creation and subsequent normalization of ICE and local law enforcement partnerships. Arriaga argues that the methods used by these partnerships to control immigration are employed throughout the United States, but they have been particularly visible in North Carolina, where the Latinx population increased by 111 percent between 2000 and 2010.
