When it comes to building communities that nurture the next generation, it's hard to identify a universal standard for success. But as social psychologist and author Jonathan Haidt looks at the trends among today's children, he sees both common concerns and shared opportunities to address them. On this episode of The Russell Moore Show, Haidt and Moore discuss the alarming rates of anxiety and depression among children and adolescents, which Haidt explores at length in his new book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness. Haidt and Moore consider the factors that lead to childhood mental health crises, including access to iPhones and social media. They talk about the ways that the Covid-19 pandemic affected (and didn't affect) young people. And they look back on the last several decades of American history, during which parents have increasingly treated raising children like a school project or professional endeavor. While much of their discussion outlines the challenges young people face today, Haidt and Moore's conversation hinges on hope. They propose meaningful opportunities for cultivating good mental health, confidence, and a sense of purpose in children and adolescents. And they encourage all who are investing in the next generation with practical advice for healthy homes and communities. In this enlightening episode of Faithful Politics, hosts Josh Bertram and Will Wright engage in a thought-provoking conversation with Dr. Scott McKnight, a renowned New Testament scholar. Titled "Decoding Revelation: A Modern Take on Ancient Wisdom," the episode delves into the complexities and contemporary relevance of the Book of Revelation.Dr. McKnight sheds light on Revelation's historical context, emphasizing its original intent as a narrative of justice and the defeat of evil, rather than a manual for speculative end-time theories. He clarifies common misinterpretations, particularly dispelling notions of identifying modern-day figures as antichrists or beasts. Instead, he encourages readers to view Revelation as a template for discerning the presence of 'Babylon' or corrupt power in both ecclesiastical and secular realms. The discussion pivots to how Revelation's imagery, particularly of Babylon, resonates with modern issues of political corruption and moral decay, drawing parallels between ancient Rome and contemporary societies. Dr. McKnight underlines the importance of wisdom, witness, and worship in understanding and applying the teachings of Revelation to modern Christian life.Furthermore, the episode touches upon the broader role of the Bible in shaping moral decisions and the church's responsibility in contemporary society. Dr. McKnight addresses the need for Christians to adopt a comprehensive and faithful approach to biblical teachings, steering clear of distortions and cultural influences that diverge from the core Christian message. This episode is a compelling blend of historical insights, theological exploration, and practical guidance, offering listeners a fresh perspective on one of the Bible's most mystifying books. It's an essential listen for those seeking to navigate the complex relationship between faith, politics, and modern society through the lens of ancient wisdom.Support the showTo learn more about the show, contact our hosts, or recommend future guests, click on the links below: Website: https://www.faithfulpoliticspodcast.com/ Faithful Host: Josh@faithfulpoliticspodcast.com Political Host: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.com Twitter: @FaithfulPolitik Instagram: faithful_politics Facebook: FaithfulPoliticsPodcast LinkedIn: faithfulpolitics

He focuses on the complexity of sales, emphasizing the significance of human interactions and understanding psychology for sales success. They also briefly mention the changing landscape of business leadership. [11:02] Jim explains that leadership is all about striking a delicate balance, such as holding people accountable while allowing room for mistakes. It involves setting boundaries and granting freedom to find one's path. Leadership is about finding the right balance, and it's not easily explained but better experienced, much like learning to ride a bike. Jim stresses that leadership is about harmonizing different elements, making it complex to teach and understand. [12:37] Jim discusses shared responsibility in leadership and how leaders need to take accountability alongside their team when things go wrong. He touches upon the challenge of younger professionals insisting they are right and explores how numbers and math fit into decision-making. Jim highlights that many people struggle with math, which often leads to accepting numbers without scrutiny. He explains that in business, there are often multiple valid answers, and real-world situations involve complexity and various factors. [18:44] Jim discusses the concept of conscious competence and its link to achieving more with less effort. Jim shares his experience of working more efficiently by focusing on what adds value and eliminating distractions. He also mentions the influence of ancient philosophies like Stoicism on their approach to leadership and highlights the timeless wisdom in these teachings. He explores the value of understanding the "why" behind success, effective work strategies, and the wisdom of ancient philosophies in leadership. [23:55] Jim delves into the book's structure and the role of curiosity as a central element. He shares a personal story involving a chance encounter with Neil Keating, which led to a significant career opportunity. He discusses the importance of giving back and paying it forward, touching on moments of generosity that can change lives. Plus, they reveal the presence of Easter eggs in the book and how readers can discover them. [35:29] Closing quote: And remember, tell me and I'll forget. Teach me and I'll remember. Involve me and I'll learn. — Benjamin Franklin Quotable Quotes "Skills training can give you time and space to get to the core problem. So sometimes improving your skills can help mask a problem or make a problem less severe, but it usually never addresses the core problem." "Sales is often treated as a result rather than the complex set of human interactions it is." "Leadership is about a delicate balance, about holding people accountable, but letting them make mistakes." "There is no ground truth." "Patience is the truest form of trust and confidence." "You want to work less and achieve more. That comes from conscious competence." “You need to experience the loss of balance or the ability to make your own balance, to understand balance.” "Conscious competence is where the real value is that allows you to work less and achieve more." "Curiosity unlocks everything else. Without curiosity, you can't get any further." "Clarity is an outcome." "There is no better way to clarify your thinking than to put it in writing." Aidan O'Brien took both Newmarket juvenile Group 1s with classic prospects, and we begin with the hugely exciting City Of Troy in the Dewhurst Stakes. How good is he, and can the son of Justify win the Triple Crown? Ylang Ylang got back on track in the Fillies' Mile. Is the daughter of Frankel capable of winning a Guineas, or should her main aim be the Oaks? It's been a tough season for Godolphin as a whole, but they have a lot to look forward to in the shape of Newmarket winners Ancient Wisdom and Arabian Crown. Meanwhile, one of the lads thinks the best of them might be Dance Sequence, who looks like a huge player in the 1000 Guineas! Speaking of the first filly's classic of the season, this year's winner, Mawj, was finally back in action at Keeneland as she won the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes under Oisin Murphy. But what race should she go for at the Breeders Cup? We also discuss the lack of betting ring coverage on telly and Frankie Dettori's retirement u-turn! Quote: The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well. -Hippocrates Chapters 0:00:24 Introduction to Ancient Wisdom for Modern Anxiety 0:02:13 Holistic Approach of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine 0:14:53 Promoting Relaxation and Energy Flow 0:16:18 Tailoring a Treatment Plan and Communication with Healthcare Provider Summary In this episode of the Anxiety Coaches Podcast, we explore the ancient wisdom of acupuncture and Chinese medicine as a modern approach to managing anxiety. We begin by acknowledging the healing power that resides within each of us, as emphasized by Hippocrates. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine take a holistic approach to anxiety, seeking to restore balance and harmony throughout the body. While everyone's experiences may differ, I, Gina Ryan, personally share my positive experiences with acupuncture for smoke-induced asthma. I delve into the ways in which acupuncture and Chinese medicine can effectively address anxiety. Through stimulating the flow of energy within the body, acupuncture promotes relaxation of both the mind and body. This, in turn, reduces stress hormones, improves the quality of sleep, and shifts the body from the fight or flight response to a restful and digestive state. Acupuncture also encourages mindfulness and fosters mind-body connection, aiding in pain reduction and promoting overall well-being. The treatments themselves are personalized, tailored to each individual's specific patterns of disharmony. By targeting the factors contributing to stress and anxiety, these treatments promote relaxation and balance. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the body's vital energy, known as Qi, flows through pathways called meridians. Blockages or imbalances in this flow can lead to physical or emotional health issues. Acupuncture stimulates specific points along these meridians, regulating and facilitating the flow of Qi while removing blockages. By doing so, balance is restored, as traditional Chinese medicine places great emphasis on maintaining equilibrium within the body. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Effect on Emotions Mindfulness has helped me notice the half-life of my emotions and reduce them greatly. As soon as you notice emotion, you'll see it's half-life just whoop, shoot down. Something Sam Harris says. Thoughts on Breathing Breathing is like the fuel to the function of your whole entire body. So James Nester wrote a great book called Breath: The New Science Of A Lost Art by James Nestor. So check that out if you haven't. But one of the key things for breathing is having a breath that you go to every day and Ocean Breath is my go-to. So Just put your hand in front of your face and you just try to fog it up like you would a glass. And now you do the same thing except with your mouth closed and you notice you get a lot deeper breath. And then maintain that breath five and a half seconds. Inhale five and a half seconds. Exhale Whenever you can. He regrets not taking action and believes that a deeper meditation and mindfulness practice could have empowered him to intervene. Also, Clement emphasizes the importance of teaching meditation to young people to encourage ego detachment. He explains that many instances of bullying stem from kids forming a strong sense of self, akin to developing an identity over time. Clement draws parallels to the concept of the “illusion of self” and the difficulty of defining oneself precisely. Meditation helps children detach from their egos, which can prevent hurtful words and actions. Clement Decrop advocates teaching mindfulness scientifically to help kids understand and reduce harm they may cause each other.
