Many food products use maple leaves, patriotic slogans, and phrases like “Canada’s #1 brand” or “Designed in Canada,” even though they’re actually made in the United States ,a practice known as maple-washing. Mike von Massow, a food economist and professor at the University of Guelph who studies food labelling and consumer behaviour, spoke to Andrew Carter.
