Our Summer Spin In has finished and, oh boy, did we all have fun! So many great projects were entered. We announce the winners here and Kelly reports on her visit to the wool auction. Plus, Marsha has a big finish. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts or Subscribe on Android. Prue Hill recommended the BBC's Food Programme on butter that aired last month. Shout out to Littletownknitter–Tracy who is recovering from surgery. Bailey finished her Companion Dog (CD) title. Marsha's Projects Rag Rugs: Finished! Planned on two 24”x36” rugs. Final size 28”x32”. Such a fun project! Socks: Finished! Paton Kroy in colorway Rag Rug. Socks: Using Red Heart Heart and Sole in colorway Black Jack. Working on foot of the first sock. Mountain High: Heidi Kirrmaier. Using my handspun Flowers From My Garden. Deer Scarf: Ben and his roommates rescued a concrete deer lawn ornaments. I am making a red scarf for the deer to wear this holiday. Weaving Studio: It's a work in progress. Spent some time cleaning the studio after the rag rug weaving. Weaving creates lots of dust, threads, and pieces of fabric. Cleaned desk and set up sewing machine which I think will work well for sewing. I'm trying not to buy anything for the studio but find what I have around the house and make it work. Kelly's Projects Started and finished spirit yarn hat #6. Took it to the college free table even though it was muggy and 70-ish this week. More Izzy Bears have ears! Still almost finished with Lace and Fade Boxy by Joji Locatelli. Using a merino silk handspun along with a skein of Sincere Sheep Vernal (silk/linen). I'm on the ribbing and using a 1x1 broken rib based on Marsha's suggestion. Fireweed Socks are finished and have been worn. Love the color! Continued Combing the remaining CVM. Debating washing the stickiest leftovers of this fleece or consigning them to the compost and calling the combing done. Washing and Processing Ernest (2017 fleece) Still carding the first batch this fleece with silk. Still have to finish washing the last couple batches. Natural Dyeing Experiments I dyed three small white skeins from spirit wool (about 150 g) with fig leaves. I pre-mordanted the wool with alum, rinsed it and let it dry. Then I put it in a dyepot that had simmered for many hours. The result is a greenish gold. Future natural dyes from my yard—toyon leaves/twigs, ceanothus leaves/twigs. Also have some dried tan oak leaves from a long ago camping trip. Another possibility is to vary the water I use. I may experiment with ocean water. My tap water is quite hard so playing with the pH of my water is another possibility. Summer Spin In Prizes Listen to hear if you won! Be My Burning Guest I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride; I have gathered my myrrh along with my balsam. I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey; I have drunk my wine and my milk. Eat, friends; drink and imbibe deeply, O lovers.” Last week, we learned: "Of all the righteous ones of Scripture, Avraham and Sarah were the best known for hospitality to strangers, especially when they received the three angels. (So 5:1) Good gardening is good hospitality to the voice of Adonai, His holy Presence. Because human beings, particularly believers walking in the Way of Yeshua, are in His image, practicing hospitality toward people of faith is an especially sweet fruit of the Ruach HaKodesh." Hospitality prepares us to be a part of the Garden of Eden conversation in the Scripture above. We can both invite the Bridegroom hospitably and remain in the Garden because we possess the vital character of hospitality without which a human cannot remain in the Garden. We can be a worthy guest...and friend...who will bless the Garden. To get a better handle on this trait, let's take a careful look at what hospitality is. What does the word mean? Hospitality: Middle English hospital, "residence for pilgrims and travelers, charitable institution providing residence for the poor and infirm," "guest accommodations" (probably by ellipsis from hospit?le cubiculum "sleeping room for guests"), noun derivative of hospit?lis "of a guest, of hospitality, hospitable” The Hebrew word for “guest” is kara ????? The KJV translates Strong's H7121 in the following manner: call (528x), cried (98x), read (38x), proclaim (36x), named (7x), guests (4x), invited (3x), gave (3x), renowned (3x), bidden (2x), preach (2x) Outline of Biblical Usage to call, call out, recite, read, cry out, proclaim (Qal) to call, cry, utter a loud sound to call unto, cry (for help), call (with name of God) to proclaim to read aloud, read (to oneself), read to summon, invite, call for, call and commission, appoint to call, name, give name to, call by The Book of Leviticus is "Vayikra" ["and called"], a book of holies, our calling to create a sanctuary of holiness for YHVH. This hospitality “preaches” His Presence to the earth and His desire to dwell with us. The Torah describes to us our holy "calling." Not only that, Adonai listens to the cries / proclamations of human beings, especially the poor and distressed. Somewhere in this world, your name can be proclaimed to Heaven, either in frustration, agony, and pain, or in gratefulness, relief, and consolation. How this works is that the needy “give name to” the situation in that home or community. A guest can “summon” Adonai's attention for blessing or chaos. He will actually come investigate the call for Divine help or proclamation of gratefulness! • Now the LORD appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day. When he raised his eyes and looked, behold, three men were standing opposite him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed down to the ground, and said, “My Lord, if now I have found favor in Your sight, please do not pass Your servant by. Please let a little water be brought and wash your feet, and make yourselves comfortable under the tree; and I will bring a piece of bread, so that you may refresh yourselves; after that you may go on, since you have visited your servant.” (Ge 18:1-5) Avraham understood what a special opportunity he had. Without a guest, who would bless? Righteous guests are given a Divine mandate to bless or destroy a home. It's an apocalyptic opportunity symbolic of the end of days. Washing feet and providing a safe place to rest with food is the ancient practice of hospitality to guests, especially honored guests. Yeshua told his disciples to honor one another, not a new commandment, but an affirmation and demonstration of an old pattern of hospitality.

New leaks from friend-of-the-show MLiD have given us a deeper glimpse into Sony's plans for PlayStation 6, especially when it comes to the rumored handheld iteration, codenamed Canis. It appears this device -- slated as part of a potential trio of PS6 hardware due out in '27 -- will be affordable, powerful, and perhaps most surprisingly dockable. With all first party competitors now occupying space (Nintendo, Valve) or chasing a presence (Sony, Microsoft) in the handheld realm, it seems like things could get very spicy on multiple fronts. Allow us to discuss in minute detail. Plus: Hermen Hulst gives a rare interview, Ken Levine emerges with hot-off-the-presses details about Judas, Sony reveals its first four incubated products in the MENA Hero Project, it'll now be easier to request a refund on PSN, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Some 14 years after release, what are our thoughts on Catherine? Could a major Xbox announcement be lurking in Sony's reported September showcase? How does Hello Games and No Man's Sky survive by giving so much away for free? Is Where's Waldo nothing more than an unconvincing psy-op? Socks: Using Patons Kroy sock in the colorway Blue Striped Ragg. Turned heel and finished gusset of second sock. Spacetime 18: Heidi Kirrmaier. Using my handspun Flowers From My Garden. On hold. Rag Rugs: Finished threading the reed plan to start weaving today. I'm making two 24”x36” rugs. Deer Scarf: Ben and his roommates rescued a concrete deer lawn ornaments. I am making a red scarf for the deer to wear this holiday. Weaving Studio: It's a work in progress. I brought two prints to the framer yesterday that will go in the studio. Kelly's Projects Almost finished with Lace and Fade Boxy by Joji Locatelli. I'm using a merino silk handspun along with a skein of Sincere Sheep Vernal (silk/linen). I had a mistake in the lace pattern somehow because my stitch counts got off so I ripped back about 4 inches and am back on track. Fireweed Sock sock two is on the second foot. A definite candidate for finishing during the two PD days at school before students start. Continued Combing the remaining CVM. I have two-pitch wool combs from Red Barn Farm from long ago. I had about 1.5 lbs left of the fleece that I plan to comb. So far I have about 150 g of combed top. With about 50% waste I figure this is about half done. The remainder of the fleece is very sticky and needs another wash. Washing and Processing Ernest (2017 fleece) I've rewashed two more batches of about a pound each. These batches are less matted and will be easier to pick. I also started carding the first batch. All have been through the carder once. I decided to add silk to the second round of carding in this batch. My plan is to prep this so that I have a fall/winter spinning project. Natural Dyeing Pelargonium leaves–orange leaning beige on CA Red fleece and barely beige on BL cross fleece. Purpleleaf plum leaves–pink leaning beige on Tunis yarn and Shetland from suint bath experiment. On both I mordanted the yarn with alum. Future plans from my yard—fig leaves, toyon leaves/twigs, ceanothus leaves/twigs. Also plan to try some dried tan oak leaves from a long ago camping trip. Summer Spin In Now until September 1. All spinning and making with handspun yarn counts. Preparing fleeces also counts. We're close to the end! Monterey County Fair Wool Show See page 31 of the exhibitor handbook for these details. Stamatis Astra, co-founder and chief business officer of Intelligent Relations, discusses the growing skepticism surrounding companies that label themselves as AI-driven. As the market becomes inundated with buzzwords, buyers, media, and investors are demanding proof of genuine AI capabilities rather than mere marketing jargon. Astra emphasizes the importance of honesty in branding, urging companies to highlight their actual use of AI without exaggeration. He outlines the three main aspects of AI in the current landscape: generative AI, enhanced data analysis, and autonomous agents, noting that most applications today fall into the generative category.Astra advises brands to communicate their AI capabilities transparently, focusing on tangible results rather than vague claims. He suggests that companies should showcase specific examples of how they utilize AI to improve customer interactions and streamline processes. By providing clear, relatable demonstrations of AI in action, brands can cut through the noise and build trust with their audience. Astra believes that while AI can enhance efficiency, it cannot replace the critical thinking and creativity that humans bring to the table. The conversation also touches on the metrics used to measure the effectiveness of AI in public relations. Astra asserts that traditional metrics such as engagement, churn, and new users remain relevant, as AI serves as a tool to enhance these existing measures. He highlights the importance of user engagement as a key indicator of success, emphasizing that AI should ultimately make life easier for customers and improve their experience.Looking ahead, Astra predicts significant changes in the cost and accessibility of AI technologies. He foresees a future where creating databases and utilizing AI-driven systems becomes increasingly affordable and efficient. This shift will unlock new opportunities for businesses to leverage AI in innovative ways, ultimately transforming the landscape of public relations and communication. Send us a textOrganic food often sounds like a smarter, healthier choice—but is it really worth the extra cost? In this episode, we dig into the scientific evidence behind organic foods, pesticide risks, and whether you're buying better health or just paying for a better-sounding label. We begin by breaking down the steep price differences between organic and conventional food. According to the USDA, Americans spend roughly $1 trillion annually on food at home, averaging over $3,100 per person. Organic options can increase grocery bills by 50% or more, as LendingTree reports in this price comparison analysis. My own market trip found Fuji apples nearly double in price, and wild-caught salmon more than twice as expensive. But do organics deliver better health outcomes? Most organic foods contain lower pesticide residues, which 85% of Americans cite as a concern. Yet research shows these lower levels don't clearly translate to better health. Rodent studies show harm at extremely high pesticide doses, far above what's found in conventional produce. Human risk data mostly comes from farm workers, not everyday consumers.A 2023 meta-analysis of 50 studies found that organic diets reduced blood pesticide levels and increased plant-derived phenolics, but showed inconsistent results for antioxidants. Cancer data is also mixed. One observational study found no clear differences across 15 cancer types. Another study of 68,000 participants linked organic food with perhaps a 0.6% lower risk of cancer incidence (JAMA Internal Medicine). However, organic eaters also are more likely health oriented (perhaps exercise more, sleep better), so lifestyle may explain the difference—not the food alone.I ran the numbers: avoiding one case of cancer might require 150 people to eat organic, costing about $300,000 in additional food expenses to avoid 1 cancer. And since organic prices may lead families to buy less produce overall, there's a tradeoff. We know from a meta-analysis that increasing fruit and vegetable intake (organic or not) is linked to a 13% reduction in mortality and a 35% drop in cancer risk. That's a far more impactful move.If you're looking for a middle ground, consider using the Environmental Working Group's Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists. While not a neutral source, their rankings can help prioritize which foods might be worth buying organic. Washing produce also helps reduce, but not eliminate, pesticide residues.Takeaways:Organic foods have lower pesticide levels but no clear, consistent health advantage. The biggest health gain comes from eating more fruits and vegetables—regardless of whether they're organic. If organic costs limit your produce intake, stick with conventional and focus on volume, variety, and other wellness investments like better sleep or exercise. As always, I'd love to hear what you think. Does this shift how you shop? Let me know—and share this episode with someone navigating the same choice.

Today, we're diving into the wild world of home maintenance, specifically why you might want to think twice before picking up that pressure washer from your local hardware store. Spoiler alert: you might just blow a hole in your siding or create a new water feature in your living room. I know, shocking, right? With the rising home improvement costs, folks are scrambling to maintain their homes instead of shelling out for a new roof or siding—who can afford that? So, we chat with Evan Greco from Rolling Suds about the surprisingly nuanced art of soft washing versus the good old-fashioned pressure wash—because trust me, not all washing is created equal. By the end of this episode, you'll be wondering why you ever thought DIY was a good idea—let the pros handle it, people! Home improvement isn't just about slapping paint on the walls and calling it a day. In this episode, Eric G. dives into the swirling vortex of home maintenance and the rising trend of soft washing, a gentler alternative to the high-pressure power washing that can wreak havoc on our beloved homes. With Evan Greco from Rolling Suds, Eric tackles the common misconceptions about DIY pressure washing—spoiler alert: it's not as easy as it looks! They reveal the dark side of homeowners taking matters into their own hands and ending up with more damage than dirt to show for it. Plus, they explore the reasons why folks are now more inclined to invest in their current homes rather than jumping ship to chase cheaper interest rates elsewhere. This episode is packed with practical tips and eye-opening revelations about the hidden costs of neglecting proper home maintenance, all served with a side of sarcasm that keeps things light despite the serious subject matter. So, if you're thinking about cleaning up your act—literally—this episode is a must-listen. Have you ever looked at your house and thought, 'Gee, that could use a good scrub'? If so, you're not alone. Eric and Evan discuss how soft washing is taking the home maintenance world by storm, especially in areas where traditional pressure washing is a disaster waiting to happen. They delve into the nitty-gritty of why soft washing is the way to go, especially for older homes that might crumble under the pressure of a standard power washer. They also touch on the rise of home values and how homeowners are forced to become more proactive about maintaining their properties. It's a wake-up call for anyone who thinks a quick DIY job will suffice. Spoiler alert: it won't! The guys also share stories about the shocking things they've found while cleaning homes—from moldy roofs to neglected sidings that could tell stories if only they could speak. Trust me, you don't want to miss this episode if you care about your home (and your sanity). Let's face it, homeownership can be a bit of a nightmare. One minute you're enjoying your cozy abode, and the next you're knee-deep in cleaning supplies, trying to figure out what went wrong with your latest DIY attempt. In this episode, Eric G. and Evan Greco take a humorous look at the chaos that ensues when homeowners try to save a buck by going the DIY route with pressure washers. Spoiler alert: it usually ends in tears (and a lot of regret). They discuss the rising trend of soft washing and why it's becoming a favorite among homeowners who want to maintain the beauty of their homes without the risk of turning their siding into Swiss cheese. You'll hear wild tales about the things people have tried to clean with a pressure washer and the hilarious (and sometimes tragic) results. If you own a home and think you can handle everything with a rented power washer, you might want to tune in to this episode first. Eric and Evan's witty banter makes this episode not just informative but also a total joy to listen to.Takeaways: Home improvement is all about maintaining your biggest asset, which is your house, so don't neglect it! We love the smell of fresh laundry – but at what cost? In Episode Four of our Greener Living series, we unpack how our quest for "clean" has been shaped by marketing, not necessity – and how it's filling our air, water, and bodies with microplastics and nasty chemicals. The good news? A few simple changes can lighten the load.
“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” — John 13:8 In summertime I often wear sandals. If I walk on sidewalks and pavement, my feet stay relatively clean. But when I venture onto a dirt path, my feet will quickly get dirty, and they'll need washing when I get home. At the Last Supper, foot washing was necessary. In Bible times, foot washing was standard hospitality before a meal or a banquet. Typically it was performed by a servant. So we can easily picture Peter's surprise and disapproval when Jesus—their host and esteemed teacher— got up, took off his cloak, and began to wash and dry his disciples' feet. “No,” Peter declared, “You shall never wash my feet.” But when Jesus explained, Peter said Jesus should wash his hands and his head as well. Though Peter and the other disciples didn't understand this foot washing at the time, they later grasped Jesus' deep, spiritual meaning in this lowly action. All who belong to Jesus need his washing—not from dirt but from their sins. And just as people's feet needed washing every day, sinners need daily forgiveness. In this humble, selfless act, Jesus demonstrated our need for forgiveness, his power alone to provide this washing, and what it means to love—by sacrificially serving others. When we share the love of Christ with the people around us, they will know that Jesus loves them too. Lord Jesus, thank you for washing our sin away. May we too serve others selflessly, sharing your love and inviting them to know you. Amen.
Adam Maguire, from the RTÉ Business Desk
Pastor Jesus Arriaga explains how the priests' washing at the tabernacle points to our ongoing need for purity before God, now made possible through Jesus and the daily cleansing of God's Word. He urges cultivating a steady rhythm in Scripture so God transforms our heart and mind.

God can call us to do many unique and amazing things, but every one of us is called to serve. In this episode, we share a sermon Alex preached at Cornerstone Church about Jesus' instruction to wash people's feet. Reading from John 13, Alex warns against the Enemy's attempts to stop us from serving the people around us. He also reminds us that sometimes service feels uncomfortable or messy, but that shouldn't stop us from loving the people God places in front of us.
