This week's experiment: the shimmering, logic‑defying pop‑music fever dream known as Glitter. A film that dares to ask, “What if Mariah Carey starred in her own A Star Is Born?” and then immediately forgets to answer because it got distracted by a sparkly butterfly.Set in a version of 1980s New York that appears to have been reconstructed entirely from perfume commercials and vague memories, Glitter is less a movie and more an extended montage that occasionally remembers it should have dialogue. Plot threads drift in and out like they're late for a different film, emotional beats land with the grace of a dropped microphone, and the editing suggests someone was frantically trying to escape the room while cutting it.Mariah whisper‑acts her way through heartbreak, fame, and several questionable wardrobe choices, while her love interest delivers a performance so beige it could be sold at Home Depot. It's not just a movie, it's a stress test. Of patience. Of endurance. Of Brad's ability to keep his soul from leaving his body mid‑episode. And this week, we find out whether he can survive ninety minutes of glitter‑coated melodrama… or if this is the moment he finally, truly, spectacularly breaks.Be sure to subscribe to the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema to hear more of Sammy. Welcome to PTBN Pop's Movie Review of The Day! Every weekday we will be reviewing a movie whether it be currently in theaters, featured on streaming or just a film that we hold near and dear to us. This week we're going back for seconds (and some cases fourths), with all the movies covered being remakes. On today's episode, Andy Atherton is reviewing “A Star Is Born” from 2018 starring Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay & Anthony Ramos.
This week on End Credits we're listening. For the movie review today, we will get into a movie you don't just have to watch because it's also a listening experience. Yes, we are going to talk about the new horror movie Undertone, and speaking of not-so-easy listening, we will continue on with our "6 For '76" series with a story about love and music! This Wednesday, May 6, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Candice Lepage will discuss: 6 For '76: A Star Is Born. Not for the first time, and definitely not for the last time, director Frank Pierson remade the 1937 movie A Star Is Born in 1976. This one shook up the formula, moving the action from the movie industry to the music industry and telling the story of the ill-fated romance between a falling star played by Kris Kristofferson and a rising star played by Barbara Streisand. Our "6 For '76" series rolls on with the second biggest movie of that year! REVIEW: Undertone (2026). Called "The scariest movie you will ever hear," Undertone has a lot to live up to. Director Ian Tuason, inspired by his own experiences caring for his dying parents, crafted a sonic experience of a movie about a podcaster caring for her comatose mother while slowly coming to the realization that her childhood home might be haunted. Or maybe it's in her mind. This low-budget horror is the latest in a line of successful Canadian movies that have come out so far in 2026 and this week we take our chance to talk about it. End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
What happens when a Fantasyland theater stops feeling like a must-see and starts feeling like filler? This week, Stephen is joined by Jenny and Marissa as we take on one of the most iconic show spaces in the park and ask a bold question: what if Mickey's PhilharMagic evolves into something entirely new?We explore a reimagined experience built around the Muses from Hercules, reframing them not as supporting characters but as the storytellers of mythology itself. In this version, guests step into an immersive, live performance where the Muses summon and reshape the myth of heroes in real time, turning Hercules into a case study in how legends are created, remembered, and rewritten.Along the way, we break down the operational tradeoffs of replacing a high-capacity, push-button attraction with a live performer-driven spectacle, how the theater itself becomes part of the show, and why it is designed to feel like a one-night-only event happening every day.We also dig into modular storytelling through music, with each Muse interpreting “The Gospel Truth” in their own voice, the return of Hades as a disruptive force in the narrative, and how songs like “Zero to Hero” and “A Star Is Born” are recontextualized as myth-making moments rather than character arcs. Finally, we explore how this concept opens the door to a larger idea of myth-based storytelling across Disney's hero library, and what it means when Fantasyland stops being something you watch and becomes something you are part of.Don't forget to check us out on Instagram!

At just 13 years old, Tracy Austin was already doing things most players twice her age could only dream about—right down to landing on the March 22, 1976 cover of Sports Illustrated with the headline “A Star is Born.” And they weren't kidding. With a calm, unshakable presence, she was already beating older, more experienced players with a sharp baseline game, all while still juggling school and family life—playing a semifinal in Rome one week and taking a social studies test the next. The wins came quickly. In 1979, she became the youngest player ever at 16 to win the US Open, defeating Chris Evert, and two years later she did it again, beating Martina Navratilova for her second title at Flushing Meadows. She also captured a mixed doubles championship at Wimbledon Championships with her brother John, and by 1980, Austin had risen to No. 1 in the world at just 17—the youngest ever to do it. But her story became just as much about resilience as dominance. Injuries, particularly a persistent back issue, began to slow her down, and a serious car accident in 1989 ultimately cut her career short. Still, her legacy was already secure—two-time major champion, world No. 1, and the youngest inductee into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1992. More than anything, Tracy Austin's grace through adversity became just as memorable as her brilliance on the court. She tells us what it was like to be on the cover of SI when she was barely a teenager. She recalls what it was like on the tour and reveals that not everyone was welcoming the 14-year old from Southern California. Tracy talks about going up against the all-time greats and how she went from opponents on the court to lifelong friends with Chrissy, Martina and Billie Jean. And she makes it clear that she wasn't pushed into a life of tennis by her parents, but rather, how they had to race to keep up with her as she chased and then knocked down her dreams of being a champion… and the best player in the world. A Star Is Born has been filmed four times, but the first version is the best: a combination of Singin' in the Rain and Death of a Salesman, David O. Selznick's production drips with “movie” and artificiality, yet still delivers an ending that seems taken from Greek tragedy. No stars were harmed in the making of this film–yet the film also dramatizes the harm inflicted by a steady diet of fame. It's not an indictment of Hollywood, but an illustration of how the machine works. Incredible bumper music by John Deley. If you're interested in reading Dorothy Parker, Robert Carson, and Alan Campbell's excellent screenplay, you can find it here. The collection Memo from David O. If you didn't see it, it's worth watching in its entirety. Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a speech for the ages this weekend. Equally powerful but different in tone from VP Vance's performance last year in the same venue. Together, they are but two of a deep bench of GOP stars to celebrate for the future - but it's not without its sniping inside the tent. Stigall tackles some of that today. meanwhile AOC is inexplicably in attendance as well and makes a first class donkey of herself. DOJ is suing multiple states for their refusal to clean up their voter roles. Georgia is one of them. Meet the state senator who knows where the "bodies are buried" in the voter fraud scandal in the Peach State. And lots of new information to be learned in the last few days surrounding the Epstein story. But what we've learned isn't exactly smoking gun evidence as much as its character defining. Political alliances are certainly shattered. Political strategist Erin Maguire joins Stigall to unpack how talking about the Epstein case as a candidate for the fall matters and why all of us need to be very specific in the language we use to discuss it. -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Love is in the air as degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay talk 'A Star is Born" for a special Valentine's Day episode. Andy is the opening act as he recalls a time he over-partied before performing and it led to him peeing himself on stage similar to the embarrassing moment for Bradley Cooper's Jackson Maine. Then the fellas discuss a flick that was the rare case of a vanity project that worked. Littered with catchy hit tunes, it's the performances and veritas-like grit that grabs you early. At the center is Cooper's booze-soaked artist. The guys discuss his alcoholism, and how it's actually a horrible idea to ask that level of boozer to cut it cold turkey. They also talk about the splashy casting decision to nab Lady Gaga — in a career-best acting role — and the stunt casting of Andrew 'Dice' Clay as her father. Of course, Sam Elliott and his tearful driving wound up overshadowing everyone. This is an episode about whirlwind bender romances, and how they are seldomly sustainable, but oh so enjoyable.
The Hollywood system was never a secret, even in the Golden Age. A young girl would be discovered, plucked from a small town in the Midwest, made over to look “the part” of a movie star, and then wholly become one as one of the major studios “it girl.” Although the idea of what a “star” is has changed over the decades to reflect societal ideals of each decade, the process and effects remain the same. The same is true for the film A Star is Born, which has been adapted four times. The original was released in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, and follows the Hollywood machine of making a movie star. Over the subsequent versions, music was introduced, first with the 1954 adaptation where Judy Garland tries to become a leading lady in a Hollywood musical. The 1976 and 2018 versions modernize the commentary by setting it in the music industry with Barbara Streisand and Lady Gaga starring respectively. These differences and what they say about each era of the entertainment industry are explored in the book “A Star is Reborn: The Most Filmed Hollywood Story of Love Found and Lost.” On FilmWeek, Larry Mantle speaks with the author Robert Hofler. “A Star is Reborn” is on sale now.

Budget Clown Show! Rachel Reeves: Worst Ever Chancellor? Kemi - A Star Is Born #Budget2025 #RachelReeves #KemiBadenoch #UKPolitics #Starmer #JonGaunt #DigitalID What did you make of the Budget? Jon Gaunt says it was a full-blown clown show — more leaks than a Max Boyce concert and more broken promises than a season of Love Island. The standout moment came from Kemi Badenoch, who blasted Rachel Reeves as the "worst-ever Chancellor" and absolutely shredded the Government's claims. Jon agrees — do you? How long can Reeves survive after signing off £1.8 billion on Digital ID cards while our borders remain wide open? A clown show for sure… but nobody's laughing. Give me your views. #Budget2025 #RachelReeves #KemiBadenoch #BudgetClownShow #UKPolitics #Chancellor #PoliticalCommentary #JonGaunt #DigitalID #BorderSecurity #LabourBudget #UKNews #PoliticalDebate Budget 2025, Rachel Reeves, Kemi Badenoch, Budget Clown Show, UK politics, Chancellor, political commentary, Jon Gaunt, Digital ID, border security, Labour Budget, UK news, political debate This is political blogging and hard-hitting social commentary from Triple Sony Gold Award-winning talk radio legend, Jon Gaunt — former host on BBC, Talk Radio, and Sky News. “If I am a legend, then why am I so lonely?” When we last left Judy Garland in part one of this deep dive into her rise and fall, she'd just had a big hit with the film Meet Me In St. Louis, she was married to Vincent Minnelli, and she had baby Liza in her arms. But things go downhill from there, as her addiction, health, debt, and “unpredictable” behavior worsens through the 1950s and 60s. Lena and Alissa continue to follow Garland's career through her next three marriages, A Star Is Born, and those final, heartbreaking concerts that the world will never forget.
