Lawmakers in Annapolis are debating how Maryland law enforcement should interact with federal immigration authorities. A robbery at a Montgomery County pizza shop has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Olney man. Police say the incident happened late on the night of October 8th at a Papa John’s along Georgia Avenue. Gary Mantz sits down with Sally Fuller to chat about this friendly little competition between Liberal, Kansas, and Olney, England, with women running 415 yards down the streets of each town flipping pancakes. It all started in 1950 from a magazine picture of the Olney women racing each other to the church. Liberal Jaycee President R.J. Leete contacted the Rev. Ronald Collins, Vicar of St. Peter and St. Paul's church in Olney, challenging their women to race against women of Liberal. Like in Olney, the traditional prize of the race is the “Kiss of Peace” from the verger (bellringer). It is still the only race of its kind on the planet. Natalie interviews three recent olim, all retirees. Chaim Stricker, a former school teacher, made aliyah from New Jersey to Arad with his wife and five dogs in 2024. The couple bought a home and settled in. Chaim volunteers teaching english at a religious school in the neighborhood, and has been setting up house, getting to know the banking system, government services, and more. Dr. Malkah Benshir and her husband Shmuel moved from Olney, Maryland to Bat Yam. Dr. Benshir volunteers in seven different clinics and hospitals, and the couple take hebrew ulpan lessons for retirees twice a week. They live in an apartment by the sea. John Newton's final letter to Mrs. — reminds believers that suffering is never wasted. Dr. John Snyder explores Newton's insights on sanctification, God's glory in affliction, and Christ's inexhaustible compassion.   In this final episode on John Newton's Letters to Mrs. —, Dr. John Snyder explores Newton's tender counsel to a believer walking through prolonged difficulty. Newton reminds her — and us — that though human compassion is limited, the compassion of Christ is infinite: deeper than every sorrow and sufficient for every need. Drawing from this sixth letter (1772), we hear Newton explain that the believer's suffering is never meaningless. Every trial is woven by God for two great purposes: the sanctification of His children and the glory of His name. Even in affliction, the Christian's contentment and quiet trust adorn the gospel. This letter also offers a glimpse into Newton's weekly rhythms — his Saturday evening walks through Olney, spent praying for the ministers and congregations who would gather the next day. It closes with one of his most beautiful meditations on the inexhaustible riches of Christ, who can fill and satisfy all His people without measure. In Milwaukee, convicted White killer & Race Soldier Maxwell Anderson was ordered to pay $93,000 in restitution to the family of Sade S. Anderson, whom he killed in the spring of 2024. And in Olney, Illinois, Whites volunteered in mass to count the beloved albino squirrel population. They made to sure to count the pale rodents in a scientific, precise manner.
