Of all the people who might end up on a deer hunt in Arizona, Rachel Levin has to be among the least likely candidates. Growing up, her closest connection to hunting was Elmer Fudd cartoons. Today she’s a food writer in San Francisco, where she knows just one person who hunts. But like a lot of food obsessives, Rachel was often curious about how the meat on her plate got there. Earlier this year, she got a chance to find out when she joined a bow hunt for mule deer with two rising stars of huntstagram, the social media sphere dedicated to all things hunting. Prepare yourselves for an exciting episode! We were extremely fortunate to catch Jessica Byers @followherarrow and Rihana Cary @rihanacary together at the same time during and extremely busy weekend for them at the Total Archery Challenge held at the Snowbird Ski Resort in SLC, UT. They are fresh off their trip to Australia and New Zealand and it was so great to hear their stories of the hunts they did and feel the emotion as they relived their success and challenges of hunting in unforgiving terrain. Statements such as " I thought we were going to die" and " I couldn't have done it without you" were spoken and felt as we sat and talked.  It became plainly obvious very quickly that these two women have a fierce determination to succeed and a undying love for the outdoors. They definitely possess the warrior spirit and are perfect ambassadors for women in the hunting world. Thanks again to Jessica and Rihana for being so gracious and we can't wait to do it again. Hello everyone, welcome to the show. Today’s podcast is an episode I recorded with Rihanna Cary, Jessica and Braxton Byers, and my lovely cohost Kimmi Greentree. The Byers and Rihanna were down not to long ago to join me in Australia in pursuit of some of the hunting that I do on a regular basis. I thoroughly enjoyed hunting with this group of people, and am so thankful for the success that we had and how I was able to get to know each of them on a deeper level. In this episode we spend most of the time talking about Rihanna and Jessica’s testimony, particularly how the were lead into a life of hunting and a career in the hunting industry. This discussion lead us to talk about the perspectives that non-hunters have, and the general amount of knowledge that is lacked by society when it comes to what it means to be a hunter and a meat eater.
