So much happening in the sports world and much of it directly involves Minnesota sports teams. We start with the bidding line for Giannis and the wolves appeared very interested in being at the front of that pack. We talk about how insane the trades are in the NBA involving draft picks and more which aligns with how ridiculous the trade offer would have to be for Giannis. Is it worth what teams would have to give up? Then, the past few weeks have been fairly interesting for lots of NFL teams as the fallout of this past season has to be answered for by front office and coaching staff members. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was not exempt from this and this past week he lost his job because Sam Darnold took the Seahawks to the Super Bowl. We discuss if this was the right move and what the Vikings, as well as other teams, have to do next to put themselves in a good position for next year. Well the debate heard round the waterfowl community has made its way to us. For the last couple of months you've probably seen all of the discussions, debates, and outright fighting regarding flooded corn and whether or not this practice should be allowed to continue. While purposefully flooding corn is not a common practice, it is in some parts of the country and there are strong opinions in the south regarding it. Joey and Cal give their thoughts about the debate and look at multiple different avenues when it comes to the lack of mallards in the south. We're not saying we're right or that we know everything and you may have a different opinion one way or the other. The important thing we keep in mind is the need for dialogue in all of these issues and being able to see it from all angles. Thanks so much for listening and be sure to subscribe and review! We get the question all the time: how do you balance your time hunting with your time at home and with your family and friends. So we thought we would discuss this week how we've been able to keep everybody happy…most of the time. Joey and Cal give their different takes on what you should be thinking about as you try to stay connected to your significant other and if you have kids how that throws a bit of a wrench in everything. Not saying this is perfect formula and everybody has different situations! At the end of the day, making hunting a part of your life going forward will require sacrifice from multiple parties, yourself included. Today we have a special interview for you guys. We were able to sit down with 82 year old Claude Strother of Gastonburg, Alabama for an in depth discussion on his life & turkey hunting. At the time we recorded this interview Mr. Claude was battling cancer, and unfortunatley he passed away just a few weeks before the release of this episode. In this episode, Claude shares stories from the early days of turkey hunting, how the sport has changed over the years, and what he believes most hunters get wrong today. We talk old-school turkey hunting tactics, calling styles, patience, woodsmanship, and why getting close still matters more than gear or gimmicks. Along the way, Claude reflects on a lifetime spent in the woods, the lessons turkey hunting has taught him, and the importance of preserving hunting stories, southern heritage, and the culture that comes with it. This episode isn't just about killing turkeys...it's about wisdom earned, mistakes made, and a way of life that's slowly fading. Got a question for the show? What a turn of events for Sam Darnold. After the Vikings let him walk in free agency and the story was about a guy who couldn't win the big games, Darnold has come out on top after beating the Rams in the NFC Championship game and advancing the Seahawks to the Super Bowl. Vikings fans are left wondering what if and the story still has another chapter to write. We review the upcoming Super Bowl and make our picks about who will win. On another note, pettiness does not die after high school, and Bill Belichick will somehow not be a first ballot Hall of Famer. There is a huge conspiracy going around about who in their right mind wouldn't have voted for Bill to make it in. We discuss the joke that has become the NFL Hall of Fame along with the ridiculousness of Shadeur Sanders making the pro-bowl. We also talk Scheffler's dominance and the gripes with tennis players at the Australian Open. Thanks so much for listening and be sure to subscribe and review! New Waterfowl Film out now! This episode features repeat guest Kevin Toye, an avid BC-based bowhunter, and Landen Fidek, a close friend of Kevin's and another very dedicated bowhunter from Saskatchewan. If you've ever looked at hunting bears over bait and considered it cheating, or easy, prepare to have your mind opened. Kevin and Landen recount the time and effort they put in chasing giant bears in Manitoba, and what it takes to put it all together and have a chance at arrowing bears in the 400 – 500 plus pound range. In this Thursday Q&A episode, we break down listener questions covering funnels, mock scrapes, late-season doe scouting, clearing shooting lanes, and aging deer. We dive into when (and when not) scrapes actually matter, how trail cameras can mislead you during the rut, and why deer movement often looks very different in real time than it does on camera. We also talk through cold-weather rut behavior, hunting pressure, scent disturbance, and how to adjust your strategy as scraping activity dies off and chasing ramps up. Along the way, we share real-world observations from recent hunts and discuss why hunting the fringes and reading sign on the ground can be more valuable than relying solely on trail cam data. In this video, we sit down with our good buddy Scott Seales, who has been a big deer hunting mentor for us in the last few years! Scott's advice directly helped Jacob and Andrew tag their last two bucks, including Jacob's biggest Alabama buck to date! We start by going over how Jacob found the spot he hunted and tagged his big buck on a new-to-him piece of public land in Alabama. We then discuss why a lot of hunters have the skills they need to be successful, yet they still struggle. Scott goes over how he keeps things simple and explains where most guys go wrong when it comes to overthinking big bucks. We are also joined by Andrew's stepdad, Mike Dillon to get an update on his season and learn what has made the biggest difference for him going from not seeing many deer last season, to tagging two bucks and a doe this season. DC Tabbscott has mastered the art of getting permission to hunt from landowners. His system works so well, that he was able to get permission to hunt a property to hunt a 170" Alabama buck, which he ended up tagging this past season! This buck was well known in the area and DC was able to get permission to hunt property that many other hunters had been denied permission to hunt. In this episode we do a deep dive into what it takes to get landowner permission to hunt, whether it is a small property that the owner lives on, a larger property with an absenttee landowner, or even lands owned by LLC's or corperations. DC breaks down why people fail at getting permission and shares the system that has become extremely effective for him. We also cover the incredible story of his Alabama giant and how the hunt went down, from losing access to the property he thought he would tag it on, to encounters with police & more! So much has happened over the last couple weeks in the world of sports. Alabama is no longer sitting atop the college football world, the SEC looks nothing like it used to, the nfl is more competitive than ever, Gavin is the king of fantasy football and head coaches have been shipped out for better and worse pastures. We talk all of this plus Myles Garrett getting the single season sack record and why his record is validated. For the first show of 2026, the focus is on current conversation trends and the ongoing fight to preserve the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. John has been on the podcast before, and as a key leader at HOWL, he brings a ton of experience to the show, both in the field and in fighting conservation battles across North America. A crucial and timely topic he covers is the current opportunity to have wolves de-listed federally (in the U.S.) so that states and regional wildlife managers can do what's right for their jurisdictions and the wildlife and people in those jurisdictions. NOTABLE QUOTES: "You can spend $2,000 on a bow each year, you can buy a $7,000 long range rifle, but you can't spend $30 a year to protect what it is that you spent all this money to do in the first place?" @howl_org @johnstallone SUPPORT DE-LISTING WOLVES JOIN HOWL FOR WILDLIFE --------------------------- DEALS & PARTNERS: For over 100 years Leica has set the standard for premium optics.
