Dirk Durham is the Marketing Manager for Phelps Game Calls, Elk Hunting YouTube sensation, and someone I consider a close friend! Dirk joins me this week to tell the wild story of his Yukon moose hunt with Jason Phelps. We do a little season recaps, elk hunting, bad etiquette on the mountain from other hunters, running into Doug Fluty on in the elk woods, and getting older as we both are. As usual, Dirk was awesome, full of wisdom and humor, and we had a great chat. Check it out anywhere podcasts are found, enjoy! Dirk on Instagram Show Sponsors! This week, meet Jordan Christensen from The Draw. We discuss the complexities of western tag applications, noting the constantly evolving process with year-round deadlines and various state changes, which necessitates services like "the draw" to help manage applications and prevent costly mistakes. Jordan detailed the draw's mission to help people hunt out west as often as they desire by leveraging application processes and offering two plan options: the non-floated plan with a service fee per application, and the floated program for aggressive applicants that covers tag costs upfront and offers free application for children under 18. We addressed hunter needs, the value of experience on low-point tags, common misconceptions about drawing tags, and the advantage of drawing tags over purchasing over-the-counter tags. It's a great discussion, I learned a bunch about the draw process that I didn't know. Jordan really knows his stuff so don't miss this one! The Draw on Instagram Show Sponsors!
I just got home from hunting mule deer in Wyoming with Fonzy Haskell of Four Horse Outfitters and Brandon Mason of Eastmans. What a heck of a hunt! We sat down to record a great episode, it's a good one… In this episode, we discuss Fonzy's appointment to the Wyoming Fish & Game Commission, and what he hopes to achieve. We talk mule deer management. Brandon, as always, brings his A-game and perspective to some tougher topics. "Blümerant" - fast vergessen als Wort; die Mutter aus Dagmar Leupolds neuem Roman "Muttermale" fühlt sich so, wenn sie lieber nicht klärt, was ihr eigentlich widerfährt. Leupold recherchiert dem Wort nach, aber auch vielen anderen Details, Objekten, Erinnerungen, um - 20 Jahre nach ihrem "Vater-Buch" - ein Bild der aus Ostpreußen geflohenen Mutter und ihrer Generation erstehen zu lassen. Why Long-Range Hunting Is Easier Than You Think (w/ Brian Wiese) | 100% Wild Podcast Ep. 441 Join host Matt Drury and guest host Jim Richman for a wide-ranging conversation with Brian Wiese of the Drury Outdoors team and co-host of Critical Mass. This episode dives deep into long-range rifle shooting, the power of suppressors, and how Brian and his partner Cody use 14+ POV cameras to capture some of the most dynamic and cinematic hunting footage in the game. They discuss how modern scope technology (like Leupold's CDS dials) makes 400-yard shots accessible, the balance of recoil and precision with cartridges like the 6.8 Western, and how suppressors are changing the game—not just for accuracy but also for ethical, effective deer management. Plus, the crew shares behind-the-scenes insight into a 12-hour spot-and-stalk hunt, dealing with an influx of mountain lions on their Nebraska properties, and how scent control is critical when you're placing cameras right in a buck's exit path. In this episode of Leupold's Hunt Talk Radio, host Randy Newberg is joined by Dylan Soares, an attorney and conservationist with the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC), to dive deep into the legal and practical implications of corner crossing—a hot topic in public land access. The discussion begins with an overview of the high-profile Wyoming corner-crossing case, where four hunters were acquitted of criminal trespass but later faced a civil lawsuit. Dylan explains the legal nuances between criminal and civil trespass, the role of the Unlawful Enclosures Act, and how the 10th Circuit Court ruled that state trespass laws are preempted in cases where public land is effectively blocked by private landowners. On this week's episode of TFB's Behind the Gun Podcast, we have an opportunity to talk to one of the product developers from Leupold Optics. Based here in my home state of Oregon, Leupold Optics helped pioneer both weatherproof hunting scopes, as well as tactical military scopes and red dots. Our Guest today, Nic, shares some of that rich Leupold history with us, as well as helps me walk through some of Leupolds current and past products, with the aim of cluing us in on what's coming out next from Leupold - an entirely new generation of red dot optics. So if you've ever been curious about what Leupold as a company is all about, or you're already a fan and just love to hear about some of the lesser known history of the company, join me and Nic as we get a look behind the glass at Leupold Optics. https://www.leupold.com/ https://www.instagram.com/leupoldoptics/ https://www.youtube.com/user/LeupoldOptics
James Nash is a return guest on the show. “Doves are not considerate birds who bring men tokens of the state of affairs upon the earth. That this dove brought a leaf in its beak [to Noah] is to be attributed alone to an impulse divinely directed” (Leupold, Exposition of Genesis, 1:3:16). In this devotion, we reflect on what this leaf signified for Noah and his family.Music Credit: J. S. Bach, “Wir eilen mit schwachen, doch emsigen Schritten,” aria from “Jesu, der du meine Seele,” BWV 78 (Leipzig, 1724).
