This week I had a chance to speak with one of my heroes, the legendary Jim Shockey. Jim is the real deal, he is a hunter, but he is so much more than that; a naturalist, conservationist, explorer, collector, author, and father, to name a few. Jim has lived life well, to the fullest, with something he teaches me called, Joie de Vie or "The Joy of Life," not wasting a day in pursuit of your passions and dreams. I hope to one day look back at my life and have it bear resemblance to the one that Jim has lived. He reminds us of what we can be at our best, not the evil backwoods rednecks we are often portrayed as in the mainstream media. I hope you enjoy this conversation! Within the hunter-conservationist and outdoor writing, film, and television communities, Jim Shockey needs no introduction. Now an internationally best-selling novelist, Jim visits with Sheep Fever host Keith Balfourd and WSF's Development Manager, Paige Culver, to discuss his new book, Call Me Hunter. His debut novel has only been out a month to rave reviews. As a member of the Wild Sheep Family and an advocate for conservation and hunting, we wanted to learn more about his motivations for this novel, which we learned he had been planning for most of his life. Published by Simon & Schuster, Call Me Hunter is fast-tracking up the bestseller list. In this episode, Jim graciously shares far more about his book and life's travels than we bargained for, which is very much like the book itself: a surprise and great read.

A once in a lifetime opportunity.  We say this all too often.  But in the case of Matt and Jared, their 2023 has been full of them.  October 29, 2023, was no different.  Matt and Jared had the opportunity to meet a legend in the outdoor industry while he was on his book tour, Mr. Jim Shockey.  Jim has just released his first novel, Call Me Hunter.  Matt messaged Jim about getting together to discuss the book on a podcast, to which Jim said, "Easy as pie."  Matt and Jared read the novel in less than a week so they would be able to discuss the book with Jim.  Fair warning, Call Me Hunter is not an autobiography of Jim's life.  Or is it?  Jim used many of his life events, historical facts and a little bit of fiction to create this thriller.  Jim flips many of the stereotypes we have come to expect from Hollywood and the New York Times Best Seller list.  Jim's hope?  Call Me Hunter will open a dialogue between those of "our world" as hunters and those who are not.  We hope you enjoy this one, and do yourself a favor and grab a copy of Call Me Hunter.

In the world of Outdoor television, few names stand out more than Jim Shockey. This week on Christian outdoor Podcast I am pleased to have join me, Jim Shockey. There is so much to talk about with Jim. World travels, hunting animals most of us never heard of, television shows, muzzleloaders, outfitting for bears, moose, whitetails, and more. And we spend a few minutes discussing these items. But we quickly dive into the creation of “The Hand of Man” museum and its creation, and what his drive behind it was and is. Then we transitioned to his new novel. As if Jim hasn't conquered enough, now he jumps head long into the world of fiction novels and literature. His new novel “Call Me Hunter”.  Jim goes into a detail of how the book came about, his writing of it and the basis of the plot.  He keeps much of the story a mystery, but suffice it to say, you will want to read this work. Praised by many in the literature world, “Call Me Hunter” is destined to be a best seller. At the end of the show, we get into some personal discussions, and you may see a side of Jim Shockey you've never seen. Either way, you do not want to miss this episode of Christian Outdoors Podcast. Brought to you by CVA.

This week's episode of the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast is all about the fans! Before recording this week's episode, John reached out via social media and asked for questions from listeners. The topics reached far and wide from choosing a good rifle caliber to protecting your deer feeders from cows. Cows came up more than once actually! While most of the questions were serious or strategic in nature, there were a few fun ones also that let John do a little bit of daydreaming about hunting moose in the Alaskan Bush with Jim Shockey!
